Because of this detail, Choi Hun-ae regarded her grandfather as open-minded; nonetheless, she had to admit a disturbing problem: although this retired major general allowed his third son to be not an officer, he would not allow a granddaughter (certainly, as well as a grandson) to be a homosexual. While Choi Hun-ae was impossible to abandon the love between herself and Choi So-dong, she was also impossible to injure her grandfather, as well as other family members. Therefore, she had to manage to prevent them from knowing that Choi So-dong was not only her distant cousin but her girlfriend.

In the afternoon of January 1, 2020, Choi Hun-ae received a chat invitation from a high school classmate who was in Wuhan. After accepting it, she greeted the other side in perfect Mandarin: “Happy new year, Wang Junjie.”

“Happy new year, Choi Hun-ae,” Wang Junjie replied and then asked. “Are you in China now?”

“Yes, I am,” Choi Hun-ae answered and immediately thought of the news yesterday. Although she did not regard that disease as a serious problem, as an old classmate was in Wuhan, she could not help asking him: “Did you watch the news about that pneumonia newly discovered in Wuhan?”

“Of course I watched it,” answered Wang Junjie. “But I’m not afraid. Last night I and some classmates enjoyed a New Year celebration on a bank of Yangtze River; now I’m having a rest in my dormitory.”

“Were there many people in the filed of the celebration?”

“Exactly! I was glad to see such scene.”

Right after this, Wang Junjie asked: “By the way, Choi Hun-ae, where will you spend this Chinese New Year?”

“In my grandparents’ home,” Choi Hun-ae told him. “And my cousins will also go there.”

“OK, that’ll be very hopping,” Wang Junjie laughed and said. Having continued to chat with Choi Hun-ae for a while, he said goodbye to her.

Next dawn, Choi So-dong, who was also sending her winter vocation, posted a picture of herself to Choi Hun-ae. As soon as she saw the content of this picture, which was produced by a mobile phone’s camera, Choi Hun-ae felt herself turned on.
