Chapter Twelve The Prize When I returned from the kitchen, Frank was back in his chair. Harriet, still sitting on the couch, had put on her clothes and boots. The others sat facing her, just as they had while Lisa performed for them. “Little b***h shouldn’t a done that,” Silk said, glancing at Frank for approval. Frank ignored him and turned to look over his shoulder at the bedroom door. I served the drinks and everyone waited in silence. After a few minutes, the door opened. Lisa wore the same white gown and shoes. She had reapplied her make up. Her mouth was bright red once more. She glanced at Frank, and then crossed slowly to stand in front of Harriet. Getting to her knees, she bowed her head. “Please, I’m sorry,” she said. “I didn’t mean it.” Harriet smiled slightly.
