Vera's voice sounded from outside the door. "I need to talk to you. I'm coming in."
If Vera came in now, she would definitely catch her and Kenneth together. Yvonne glanced at Kenneth's darkened expression and almost laughed. He had walked in here on his own. Could that be called stepping straight into a trap?
But this was no time for jokes. Yvonne knew Kenneth didn't want any trouble, so she said, "Why don't you just hide behind the curtains?"
The moment she spoke, Kenneth's expression nearly cracked in disbelief. "You want me to hide back there?"
What did she take him for, some secret lover sneaking around? He had only exchanged a few words with her. Why on earth would he need to hide?
"Then just walk out in the open. I don't lose anything anyway. Maybe I can even use you to get this engagement canceled."
So Yvonne really was planning to call off the marriage.
"Yvonne, who are you talking to in there?" The person outside was already pushing the door.
In the end, though Kenneth was clearly unwilling, he still moved quickly behind the curtain. Yvonne went to open the door, but she had no intention of letting the person inside.
She rested one hand on the doorframe and looked over the person outside. Standing there was her longtime best friend, Vera, who was also Simon's current lover. Vera had a soft, delicate beauty that easily invited pity.
Her eyes were still slightly red, and she had purposely worn a thin strapped dress, faint traces of Simon's marks still visible on her skin.
"Yvonne, you look so stunning today." Vera stared at Yvonne's dress with clear envy.
Yvonne shot her a mocking glance. "What do you want?"
"Yvonne, you know my story. I came from nothing. My mother left me when I was a child. My father is a compulsive gambler. I only have Simon. Please don't marry him. Give him back to me, alright? I really love him."
Yvonne looked at her with a frosty expression. "That's the first time I've seen a mistress act this shamelessly with such confidence."
"Yvonne, you were born with everything. Of course you don't understand what I've been through. Why are you doing this to me? Why are you taking Simon away?"
Then Vera suddenly dropped to the floor. "Please, I'm begging you!"
The next moment, Vera was pulled back up.
"Vera, what are you doing?" Simon pointed at Yvonne and yelled. "What does this have to do with us? Why are you dragging Vera into it? She's not in good health and you're still bullying her? You even pushed her? How cruel can you be?"
Yvonne already thought Vera was shameless enough, but Simon was even worse. "Simon, get this straight. Vera came to me on her own and chose to kneel. I only said one sentence the entire time."
Seeing this, Vera quickly clung to Simon. "Simon, don't blame Yvonne. It's my fault. I love you too much. I just can't watch you get engaged to someone else."
Yvonne was honestly disgusted, but before she could even slam the door shut, Simon said, "Yvonne, even if I marry you, I'll never like you. I would never sleep with someone like you. Just give it up."
Yvonne froze in disbelief. So neither of them had eyes? Could they really not see how strongly she opposed this engagement? And what made Simon think she wanted to marry him in the first place? His level of narcissism was truly beyond belief.
Yvonne raised a hand to stop them. "Let me make this clear. I'm not the one stopping you two. Simon, if you can convince your father, then go ahead and leave. Stop coming to bother me."
With that, Yvonne slammed the dressing room door shut.
A few seconds later, Kenneth stepped out from behind the curtains. He had heard every word from beginning to end.
Yvonne didn't seem affected at all. "See? With a fiancé like Simon, I could sleep with countless men and still feel no guilt."
Kenneth was speechless.
