Nicholas POV

Working was the only thing I could do to get her out of my mind. After running in my wolf form until daybreak, I headed toward the royal family as I hadn’t been there in a while. While seated all alone in my office on the fifth floor of the royal office, I swiveled on my chair and had an inner conversation with my werewolf. ‘’what the hell I’m I doing?’’ I questioned Kyan, my werewolf.

‘’ I believe we are going crazy,’’ he replied. In our kingdom, no werewolf has ever had a mate given to him by the moon goddess except if you were bonded by blood, and that rarely happens. The practice ended during my father’s time, which was centuries ago. I still wondered how I was able to feel so attracted to Angelica. The bond was so strong and I knew that she felt it too, but she acted as if she wasn’t a part of it. She acted as if she didn’t feel the spark each time our hands touched.

‘’This is so hard,’’ I stared at the paper on the table. It was a document that I was supposed to sign a few moments from my assistants, but I spent almost a lot of minutes pondering why and how Angelica and I suddenly became connected. It wasn’t supposed to happen and finding answers to my questions was hard.

‘’I will try to find out why we are connected but I must tell you this, Nicholas. I believed that the child is drawing me closer to Angelica and…’’

‘’wait a second,’’ I stopped him. ‘’you are feeling a connection to Alaric’s child?’’ I asked him.

‘’yes,’’ he replied. ‘’The unborn pup keeps making me closer to him and I believed that’s why you are always around her.’’

I placed my hand on my lips and heaved a sigh. ‘’you are right about that,’’ I said and heaved a sigh. ‘’But why are you feeling her child and I can’t?’’ I asked him. ‘’is there any reason why we are connected?’’ I didn’t stop the questions there and continued. ‘’The only reason why I should be connected to that child is if the child is mine and Angelica and I broke up years ago.’’

My Wolf was about to answer my question when the door burst open and the one person I thought I would never see burst into the room aehind her was Sandra, the royal secretary.

‘’I am so sorry your highness, for I tried to stop her but she is….’’

‘’what are you doing here?’’ I asked Angelica. ‘’ You could leave Sandra,’’ I told her.

Sandra bowed her head and walked out of the office, shutting the door behind her. When Angelica and I were alone, she moved closer to me and hugged me.

‘’What are you….’’ I stopped talking when I noticed that her beautiful lavender smell wasn’t there. Instead, she smelled like a collection of perfumes. It was so strange that I pulled her away from my eyes and tried to look into her eyes. ‘’what is going on?’’ I asked her.

‘’I miss you so much,’’ she pulled me closer to herself and kissed me on the lips. The spark, the heart racing, and the tingles were absent and I felt nothing. Her lips on mine were supposed to feel electrifying but it was just there.

I gently pushed her away to see her face. She tucked her hair behind her ear and I noticed that the tattoo had appeared again. How did the tattoo appear? I thought it was because I could remember her saying that she had removed the tattoo.

‘’you shouldn’t be here!’’ I said to her.

She pouted and folded her arms. ‘’I couldn’t do away with you, ’she tried to touch me but I put her hand away. ‘’why are you doing this to me?’’ she asked and sniffled.

I stared in awe at her amazing acting and my mind went back to when we were in the bathroom together and she moved backward stating that she didn't want to have anything to do with me. What happened to that?

‘’you shouldn’t be here because a rumor could start since my brother isn’t around,’’ I told her. Instead of listening to me, she placed her hand on my shoulder, and there again, there was no reaction from me, and not even my wolf responded to her touch.

‘’stop acting like this because you know what you choose when you wanted my brother!’’ I yelled at her, getting annoyed at her sudden attitude and the fact that there was no reaction of my brother to just seeing her alone.

She burst into tears and removed her hand from my shoulder and placed it on the table. I noticed that her ring was missing and no way would Angelica forget such a thing. I thought that I was seeing wrong, so I rubbed my eyes and looked at her again.

‘’I can’t feel the baby's presence.’’ My wolf said and it suddenly made me wonder who the angelica in my room was. ‘’it seems like she is a different person entirely,’’ my wolf said and I agreed with him.

‘’Aren’t you going to say anything at all!’’ she yelled at me. ‘’ I came all the way here to show you how much I still love you but you are acting as if you don’t know me!’’ she yelled.

I scoffed when I heard her say that. ‘’you must have gone crazy to think like that!’’ I told her and shook my head at her offer. ‘’I want you to leave now, Angelica, because you are no longer welcome here,’’ I told her and stood up. Walking towards the door, I pointed outside for her to leave. ‘’kindly leave when I am being nice,’’ I told her.

‘’you are asking me to leave?’’ she asked and I nodded in response.

‘’Please leave!’’ I said to her.

She chuckled and nodded in response, walking towards the entrance, when she reached my side, she tried to touch me. I moved backward. I found her touch infuriating and having her touch me made it feel as if I was getting burnt. ‘’Goodbye Nicholas, I'll be back,’’ she said and walked away. The way she said my name made me remember the past.

What the hell was going on?
