Chapter Eight Our eventual undoing was the result of Roland’s enforced absence a couple of weeks later. He had gone to Germany on business, staying away for two nights. On the first night Belinda and I went out to dinner. We talked intimately about Roland and about Mark. It was clear that she adored Mark to the point of idolatry. “Is there anything you would not do for him?” I asked.
