Chapter 5

Caleb's POV   I had just finished breaking up a fight between two pups when I saw the most magnificent wolf I have ever laid eyes on. She was coming straight towards the pack house. Her scent smelled vaguely familiar. It took me a few seconds to realize that this is Elijah's mate.   I watched as she just stopped running and lay down on her belly just outside the pack house. I told Elijah to come outside through the mind-link.   Skye, the name seemed to suit her best in wolf form. Her fur looked white at a glance, but hints of silver and light blue could be seen. She is a wolf with a difference, there is no denying that. I stood guard and made sure the other pack members stayed away from her.   They all scurried off and little snippets of conversations can be heard in the distance.   Elijah has finally found his mate, after so many years. I could not help but wonder when I would be lucky enough to find my mate.     Elijah's POV   As soon as Caleb let me know that Skye returned to the pack house and was outside I ran outside, almost knocking over a few of the people that were in my way.   I saw my mate in wolf form lying down on the ground. I dismissed Caleb and went over to my mate.   She growled at me when I touched her and almost bit off my hand. I looked into her eyes and saw that they were black. Her wolf had taken complete control of her.   "Can I talk to my mate?" I asked, hoping that she would say yes.   She shifted back to human form, but the wolf was still in control. "She will talk to you once she is okay. Send wolves out to the North-East border of your territory. Order them to bring back the body and to treat him with respect. "   I took off my black shirt while sending out the order to Caleb to go get the body. I handed Skye, well her wolf form, my shirt silently praying she would put it on. I had no time to deal with all the unmated males staring at my mate, while she was naked.   She put it on and struggled a bit with the buttons. When I offered to help, she simply nodded her head once and took a step closer to me.   By the time Caleb came back with Zane, who was carrying the body wrapped up in white linen, Skye's wolf had the rest of the pack build a pyre that was half a mile away from the pack house. She had taken control of everything. She kissed the dead man's forehead and had us lift his body onto the pyre.   After sending most of the pack members away, Skye took back control of her body and starting crying.   I rushed to her side and held her close to me. "Tell me what happened? Why was your wolf in control?" I knew asking her this now, was not appropriate. I just needed to know what happened, my mate needs me and I am at a loss.   "He was sent to find me, he t...tried to capture me." She cried, every time she tried to stop a flood of tears would make their way to the surface. "He came after me against his will."   "Shh, you don't have to say anything else." I said trying to comfort her.   "I did not kill him, but it is my fault he is dead." She said, her voice sounded gravelly. "I wanted to know who... who sent him. He died, he was tortured, and they got inside his mind. He was a ticking time bomb."   I just held her in my arms as she carried on talking, I do not know what else I could have done.   "Elijah, whoever it is that is after me will stop at nothing to get me. Many will die. I do not want that to happen. Luke is only one of the many in his control." Skye was doing her best to be strong, but it was not helping. "We need to save them. We need to kill that bastard."   After a few more minutes, Skye managed to dry up her tears. We said goodbye to Luke Gerard and burned his body.   Skye spent the night just lying in my arms on my bed telling me about Luke and his family.   Whatever happened really took a toll on Skye. I was not there to help her. She needed me and I was not there. I just found her and already it felt like I was losing her.   I kept her close to me and as soon as she fell asleep. I promised to never let any harm come to her.     Skye's POV   I broke down in front of my mate. He saw my weakness and I hated it.   I know I am not weak and that I have always had to look out for myself and be strong, but the reality of what is going on around me hurt. It was painful to think that other werewolves were being killed and tortured. There are even humans that are suffering because of power hungry men.   I lay in bed and watched as my mate slept. He made me feel safe; if anything happened to him I would die.   Life has never been easy for me. I constantly worked hard, made do with what I had and stole what I needed. I am not proud of the life or in my case lives that I lived. It was the only way I knew how to live.   After giving Luke the send-off he deserved, I tried to hold myself together. Elijah saw that I couldn't and helped me the best way he could.   I am madly in love with my mate and I know I have not known him for long, but he is my strength now and I need him with me.   My thoughts drifted back to Luke Gerard and I felt like puking. He did not deserve everything that happened to him. I saw the agony he was in. I felt the blocks on his mind and I saw the man he once was.   Never before has death affected me, not even Amy's. Something is wrong with me, maybe I have changed. I am not sure.   I killed before. People I cared about have died. I have been hurt in so many different ways, but never before have I broken down and shown so vulnerability. That is what bothered me the most. Elijah found me when I was drained. I cried when I told him I loved him, but I was never weak.   Whatever it was that is wrong with me, I had to fix it.
