Chapter 3 Nyra Adeel taps twice on the door and it vanishes immediately. I gape at the entrance where the door was supposed to be with my mouth open. “ How did you do this?” I ask dumbfounded. “ Magic!” He wiggles his finger and winks at me. I chuckle and then follow him inside. Then look back to find that the door like wall was back in its place. We enter into a whole another corridor. The corridor is similar to the one before with transparent barriers on one side and the other one with dark brown coloured barriers. But unlike the last one, this one is not deserted. There are boys and girls who are walking back and forth the corridor. I walk beside Adeel and notice that all of them are carrying books and hurrying towards the stairs we came from. “ Is it the time for classes?” I ask. “ A lot of classes are scheduled for the afternoon. Depends on what they are learning and well, the teacher’s schedule. So yeah, they might be having classes or they may be going to the library to complete assignments.” He answers. “Assignments? What are the assignments about?” “ About everything and anything. Did you think that all you learn here is controlling powers?” I nod. “ Well no. Souls have to learn about the history of this world and the administration as well. This helps the souls to understand this realm and come to terms with its working. You will learn about the working of many things here.”  “ Okay.” I answer back as we turn left and enter a huge room. The room was set up like some kind of restaurant with many round tables. There were teenagers sitting around the tables within their groups and chatting and laughing while eating their food. Then suddenly, I am struck with the number of people in the room. The tables were almost full with only one or two left. My hands start to sweat. I was never a social person and I know what being new in a school meant. I have been one thrice when…. I was alive. That felt so ridiculous because being a soul was so not different from being a human yet. Are they gonna be the same as humans are? Or are they different? If they are the same then I know the drill. I know how people stare at the new admission. And I hate being in the spotlight. I have always preferred to be blended in the crowd and not stand out.  Being in the foster system, I often had to deal with the staring. I changed families pretty often and that meant new school every single time. When you are new, then you are in the spotlight. Everybody wants to know who you are and what’s your story. Bullies want to get the dirt on your life to exploit you. They wait for a slip up and then they pounce like predators. The attention used to be overwhelming and I always had a hard time dealing with it.  I shudder from the memories. I shuffle my feet going backwards, out of the room. “ You know what. I am not hungry at all, we can come here later.” I say as I start to turn back towards the stairs where we came from.  “ Okay.” Adeel says, giving me an odd look. “ You sure you are not hungry?” He asks as he walks to me.  I am hungry and that delicious fragrance coming from the room is not at all helping but I am not ready to be in a crowded place yet. I need some time to myself to digest all of this. So I say, “ No I am not. All this new information is enough for my appetite today.” He laughs and totally buys it. Mission accomplished. “ So, now what?” I ask him looking around.  “ Well you are not hungry so then I guess we can go and check out your room and make sure you have everything for the weekend.” He answers. “ Yeah. That sounds great. Lead the way.” I follow him as we walk in the opposite direction from the stairs.  “ This corridor has the dining hall only. All the rooms are on the above floor. The dorms for boys and girls are separate of course. And every room is shared by two people. So you will most likely have a roommate.” He explains to me as he leads me up another set of stairs and past another door like barriers Soon we are in front of a door that looked like it was made of wood but well now that I know that this is not actually a door but a barrier. Above the door frame is the plate with “ Suit 80” written on it.  “ This will be your suit. You have to, of course, remember the number if you do not want to get locked out in the corridor.” “ Thanks for the warning. I will remember it. So how do you open it?” I ask, excited to see the room. “ The barrier of the suits recognise the signature magic of the souls living inside it, so it can be opened only by the residences.” He explains it. “ Um.. Okay. So what do I do? Like should I stand in the front of the door or something?” I was confused as to how a barrier would be able to recognise my magic. And not only this, I did not know how to use my magic at all. I actually had pretty big doubts that I did not possess any magical powers. He chuckled and shook his head. “ I forgot how amusing it is to be with the souls on their first day.”  “ I am glad that you find my confusion amusing.” I remark sarcastically. This makes him sober pretty quickly. “ So you just bring your hand close to the barrier and wait. The barrier can pick up on your magic from your hand even if you don’t use the magic. But it might take a few seconds for it to pick the signature without magic.” He explains as I bring my right hand and place it so close to the barrier that it is practically touching.  This is where they tell me I am one of the rare souls with no magic. I am praying in my head. Please let me have magic. Please… Please.. Please. The barrier vanishes to give the way inside and I barely control myself from jumping up and down.  Adeel enters the suit and I follow him inside. The suit is pretty spacious. There is a lounge type area as we enter suit and then there are three barriers that I am guessing lead to rooms . There are transparent barriers opposite to the door from which the sunlight is pouring and lighting up the lounge. The centre of the lounge had a grey couch, mustard coloured loveseat and white lounge chair all surrounding a centre table. The floor under the furniture was covered with blue coloured carpet. The barriers were white coloured. The lounge was filled with all kinds of plants. All in all, it looked beautiful.  “ This is so cool.” I say as I turn around to get the full view of the suit.  “ I am glad that you like it.”  “ Okay so, there are two rooms and one bathroom for you four to share.” He explains as he moves around the room, pointing out things.  “ Four souls in one suit! Don’t they all go Originals on each other?” I ask incredulously. “Originals? Ehh. Sometimes they are more ruthless than that if possible.” “ Ooh! That is something worth watching but not so good for experiencing.” He laughs at this.  “ Follow me” He takes me inside the second barrier. The room is huge. At least by my standards. The foster homes never had rooms like these. There are two beds, each on opposite sides of the room. The one nearest to me was decorated with multi coloured beddings and cushions. The wall behind the bed is also decorated with multi colored tassels and fairylights. The colours look awesome against the white walls. This must be the side of my roommate. She has good taste in colours.  The other bed is against a transparent barrier and is covered with plain white bedsheets and a plain white comforter. There are desks with bookshelves as well. I love the room.  “ So, here is your room and there are the closets. The closet is filled with essentials like some clothes and all. This will help you settle for some days and then you can go to the nearest market in Ellesmere and buy all the things that you might need.”  “Okay. So where are my suitemates?” I ask so that I can be prepared to meet them. They can be like anything. And I can’t keep myself from thinking if I am going to adjust with them or not. Whether they are going to be nice and cool or are they gonna be bitches and I will be stuck with them.  “ Well, I don’t know who your suitemates are, and so I cannot tell you their whereabouts. But I can tell you that you will meet them soon. The classes end soon and you will get to know them. I hope you luck out in this because if not, then you are gonna be in big trouble. I am talking from experience.” “ Yeah, I hope that too.”  “ Okay. So now I have to go. You sure, you will be good till tomorrow?” He asks as he starts to back towards the exit of the room. “ Yeah.I will be fine on my own. Thanks for help”   “ No problem. Okay, so I will meet you tomorrow morning in the breakfast hall at 7. Bye Nyra!” He waves his hands and exits the suite. Finally alone. I stand in the middle of the room, thinking about the way my life has changed. One second I was dying… no correction, I died. And now I am here. In this new world that is nothing like life in.. or on Earth. Oh god, I am never going to get used to talking like this.  I move towards the transparent barriers that stretch from the ceiling of the room to the floor. The room faces the vast stretch of green lawn that is bordered with lush green trees. There are some in the ground as well. The view is beautiful and I am certainly in love with the campus of this school, whose name I have yet to learn. Next, I go to the closet that has some jeans, pairs of sweatpants, solid tees and even some tank tops. I open the drawer inside it to find pairs of undergarments. There are even some bathrooms essentials. Well, this is not too bad to start out.  There is even a new bedding in a packet beneath all the clothes. The bedding is white colour with blue and yellow stripes and I absolutely love it. I peel off the packet and start to set my bed. I even find that there is a solid blue coloured comforter in it as well. I am happy as hell. This school is awesome. Once I am done with the bed, I take out a fresh pair of grey sweatpants and a solid black tank and head out for the bathroom to take a shower.  The bathroom is clean and has a full length mirror as well. I quickly figure out the working of the shower and jump in as rapidly as I can. The hot shower quickly relaxes me and I soon forget about everything.
