I awake a couple hours later in the same new bedroom. I half expected to wake in my old bedroom, realizing this was all a dream. No such luck. I sat up and realized I had been moved and tucked into the bed neatly. Quickly pushing out the idea that someone had come into my room while I was sleeping, I stood up and looked around the room. I noticed a dress hanging up on the large full-length mirror. One of my dresses to be exact. There was a small note on it that stated dinner was at 7pm implying I should wear this. I peeked into the closet that was nearby and say all my clothes had been moved here. The clock in my room said it was 6:30. Looking down at my dirty clothes, I decided I probably should change.
Putting on the dress, I looked in the mirror. I didn’t look like a werewolf… My white spaghetti strap dress only fell to the middle of my thighs. It was not a skintight dress; however, it did slightly hug my curves as it fell. I found sandals in the closet as well, so I put those on.
I didn’t know what my plan was, but I did know I needed to attend this dinner. I needed to comply until I figure out a way out of here. I wasn’t sure if I believed Christen seeing as I just met him. I needed to see with my own eyes and speak with my parents myself.
I began to walk towards the door to figure out where the hell the dining room was when I began to smell the scent of honey and wood again. My heart began to increase the second the smell hit my nose. I knew the smell and it was intoxicating. Reaching for the door, I opened it only to reveal the boy-eyed man standing across the hallway, leaning against the wall causally.
“About time...” He mumbled as our eyes made eye contact. His body tensed as I walked fully out the room, the door shutting behind me.
“Who are you?” I asked, slightly already knowing but we had not fully been introduced.
He pushed off from the wall he was leaning on and looked down the hallway. “Micah.” He stated. He seemed very annoyed with my presence and I couldn’t figure out why.
“Well… I’m Sophia.” I said trying to be polite.
I know” He quickly stated beginning to walk down the hallway. I paused for a second completely taken back by the attitude in his response. It was completely unwarranted!
I quickly came back to reality and hustled to catch up to him. “Excuse me! Did I somehow do something to you?” I angrily questions while catching up to his heels. He quickly stopped and turn towards me, making me skid to a stop. We were inches from each other, and the scent of honey and wood increased making my mouth water a bit.
He stared down at me standing around 6”4. His blue eyes flamed with an intensity I was confused with. He looked down at my lips and then back to my eyes. I could feel his warm breath on my face as he spoke. “We are going to be late.” He blankly stated and turned, walking back down the hallway.
My breath caught in my throat for a second before I snapped back out of my trance. I began to walk towards him, not as fast this time. We walked in silence, and slight out of annoyance for me. The audacity this guy had to be so rude! As if on cue, I saw him peek back at me a bit. Our eyes met for a split second and I had the sudden urge to just stick my tongue at the guy. I held back the immaturity and he turned back around.
We arrived at a large closed door and I could hear the chatter of people behind it. I could see that Micah paused as I walked up. He looked as if he held his breath for a second and I wondered what all that was about. Before I had a chance to mention it though, he opened the doors, revealing a large table of about 20 people. I froze as all eyes turned towards us. My heart began to increase out of fear. Fear of what was in this room, fear of what these people were, fear of the unknown…
Micah did not move either. He looked back at me and softly said, “It’ll be fine.” I looked up at him and his eyes softer this time. He reached out to place his hand on my lower back to usher me in a bit. The second his hand touched me though, I felt an electric current flow from my body to his hand as if they were magnets. My eyes did not fall from his and I could see the change in his as if he had felt this current too.
“Sophia,” I heard a voice call out through the silence of people, breaking the trance Micah and I sat in. I turned my head to see Christen standing from his seat at the very head of the table. He held out his hand as to instruct me to come over to him. I began to walk towards him, still feeling Micah’s eyes still on me. His hand stayed connected to me as long as it could until I was out of reaching distance.
I walked over to an empty chair next to Christen. “Welcome,” He said leaning in, kissing me on the cheek. He then pulled out the chair for me, and I took my seat. “Micah, join us.” Christen stated but with a more authoritative tone similar to the one he used with Tate.
I looked over at Micah who was still standing at the doorway, but his facial expression looked angry. His eyes were narrow, and his teeth looked as if they were locked tight. You could see the muscles of his jaw tensed. Nevertheless, Micah also complied, walking towards the other side of the table directly across from me. He took his seat with aggressively, avoiding my gaze.
Christen then sat back down, smiling, and everyone returned to their conversations. “Sophia, I see you have met Micah.” Christen mentioned, gesturing to the annoyed Micah directly across from me. I nodded, looking at Micah who was still avoiding my gaze. “Micah is my Beta, meaning he is the second in command essentially. As my Beta, I have assigned him to you, to watch out for you.” I looked back and forth between Christen and Micah, obviously noticing the disagreement with this decision.
Christen then reached out to touch my hand. He placed his large warm hand on the top of mine, attempting to show compassion. “You are very important to me.” He said softly. From the corner of my eye, I saw Micah’s entire body tense up.
“How was your nap!?” I heard Tate’s voice suddenly break the silence. He was sitting next to Micah across from me. At the change in conversation Christen retracted his hand, placing them in his lap. Micah’s body softened.
“It was refreshing.” I said with a small smile. Tate smiled the biggest smile back, seemingly aware of Micah’s tenseness and purposefully changed the topic.
The rest of dinner went smoothly. Christen kept his hands to himself, Micah spoke only when made and Tate dominated the conversation, keeping it light and causal. Dinner was extravagant just as Christen seemed. There were multiple courses in which I barely finished. I didn’t realize how hungry I was until the food was placed in front of me. Once dinner was over, people began to filter out. I was half expecting Micah to filter out at some point, but he didn’t. He sat there quietly.
At this point I decided I would make my way back to my room. I stood up stating I was tired, and I think I was going to head back. Immediately, Micah and Christen stood up when I stood up.
“Good night Sophia.” Christen said leaning in to kiss my check once again, placing his hand on my back this time lingering a bit too long for a typical goodbye. I didn’t blame the man though; he was very forward with his intentions when we met. He was clearing trying to court me. Question was is that what I wanted too…
I began to walk towards the door and I noticed Micah was following me. “Oh, you don’t have to go too.” I said trying to be nice.
“On the contrary, he does. He is assigned to you. He will go where you go.” Christen said while sitting back down. I looked at Micah who did not look pleased about the situation. Was I really that bad? I didn’t even think I did anything to him…
I began to walk to the door and Micah appeared right when I got to the door, opening it before I could even reach for it. “thanks.” I stated walking through the door.
We walked down the hallway in silence. I could hear the heavy footsteps from Micah behind me. I needed to figure a way to get away from him… I needed to go back to my house and talk to me parents about all of this. I needed confirmation…
Getting to my door I turned and looked at Micah. “okay thanks for the walk!” I said quickly attempting to get him to leave. He just stood there. “Bye?” I said questionably.
“Go.” He said opening the door from behind me. I rolled my eyes and entered the room. He quickly shut the door making me jump from the noise.
“Asshole…” I mumbled walking towards me closet to change. I put on some leggings and a tank. If I was going to try and get out of this place, I was going to need to be comfy. I walked over to the door, placing my ear on the wood to see if I could hear anything. Nothing. This might be my chance.
