Inside David's room…
David had just finished taking a refreshing shower, and he was now lying on his bed, trying to relax. He had had a long day at work, and was looking forward to some well-deserved rest of hours. Just as he was about to close his eyes and drift off, his phone rang.
He picked it up, and saw that it was his girlfriend Emily calling. He smiled to himself as he answered the call.
"Hey lollipop," he said, his voice soft and relaxed.
"Hey, cupcake," Emily replied. "Did I catch you at a bad time?"
"No, not at all," David said. "I was just about to take a nap. What's up?"
"Oh, ok. I called to check on you and also, remember we agreed to see each other today right?" She asked.
David's mind raced for a moment, realizing that meeting with Emily would make him deviate from resting and sleeping.
"Oh yeah, where are you?" David asked. "I totally forgot about that. Are you coming over? "
David checked his clock. It was already 5:30 pm.
"I'm on the road driving. I just left my father's house." She replied.
"Okay, Do you want to come over? Don't worry about my brother. He has a visitor and I don't think he will have such time to taunt you." He said.
"I still don't want to see him." She replied.
"Ok, tonight, I'll be hanging out with my friends. A night club. You mind joining us?"
"Will your brother join as well?"
"Not sure." He replied. It was obvious Emily would do anything possible not to cross paths with Damon. She likes her peace and would do anything to protect it.
"Alright then." She replied and smiled even though David couldn't see her cute smile.
After they agreed that they would meet in the night so they both would attend the nightclub together.
Immediately Emily ended her call with David, she called Alice in the next second and Alice picked in just one ring.
On the phone…
"Hi sis… how is your day going at work? Hope baby sis did not disturb you? How is she? I'm missing her already." Emily said, laughing slightly.
"She is here with me, looking with her big eyes. She didn't disturb at all. She has been a good girl since we got here." Alice's response sounded cheerful.
"So, how did the meeting go?" Alice was concerned.
"Fine, fine. It went well."
"Alright so where are you?" Alice asked.
"I'm driving back home. I want to prepare dinner before you arrive. What food do you prefer I prepare?" Emily asked, she wanted Alice's opinion on food choices.
"I'm craving for your burger…" She said, laughing out of her words.
"Alright then. I'll make a homemade burger, specially for you." Emily approved her request.
Alice was so happy to know she was going to taste Emily's burger again. She had always enjoyed it whenever Emily makes it as if Emily was professionally a burger maker even though she was not.
As they chatted, Emily told Alice she wouldn't be around at night because she was going out with her new boyfriend.
"Sis, are you sure about this? Like this is your first outing with him at night…" Alice sounded concerned like she wasn't in support of Emily being so comfortable with her new boyfriend even as they just met.
"Don't worry. I'll be fine." Emily replied.
"Your boyfriend, I hope he isn't a… a bad guy? I don't want you to get hurt sis." Alice haven't met Emily's boyfriend so she was really concerned about the well-being of her best friend.
"Not at all, he is not bad. When you get home, I'll show you his picture. Sorry I haven't gotten the time to introduce you to him." Emily was sad and worried that she must have gotten so busy to the extent of not Introducing her boyfriend to her best friend.
"I'm really sorry sis. My bad." Emily took the blame for her own mistake.
"No sis, it's fine. I believe it wasn't intentional." Alice didn't want her best friend to feel guilty for her mistake. It was just a mistake right?
As they spoke further, they changed topic and spoke for some time and thereafter, they ended the call and just as Alice was about to drop her phone, the sound of an opening door diverted her attention towards the door. She turned to the door and saw Damon, standing at the entrance door with the side of his back leaning on the wall next to the door. His hands were folded across each other near his chest and his eyes were on her.
Alice's heart leaped. She wondered how long he had been standing there and why he had come to the guest room to meet her. Could it be that he needed something and he tried calling her on the phone but was told she was on another call? Therefore placing his call invalid.
So many thoughts ran through her head as her gaze didn't go off him too. She waited to see if he would break the silence but then, he didn't. His eyes were cold and his face as well.
Alice, seeing that he wasn't going to speak anytime soon, she broke the silence.
"Sir…" She called out nervously but he didn't answer her.
"Do… Do you want me to… Do you want anything sir?" She asked with stuttering words.
He ignored her question and took a few steps forward. Now standing in front of her with his hands placed inside the two side pockets of his shorts.
Alice, seeing his cold reaction, swallowed her saliva.
"You didn't come to my mansion to disturb my peace did you?" His questions were harsh and confusing. Alice didn't understand why he made such a statement.
"..." she tried to speak but couldn't.
"Despite coming from a low class home, before your parents died, didn't they teach you how to talk on call? Must you laugh out so loud to disturb my peace?" Not again! This was Damon's problem. He doesn't know how to talk and never cared if his words were opening up a wound.
"I'm sorry sir…" She couldn't blink but rather, uncontrollable tears gushed out from her eyes. She immediately wiped them off but her eyes were still bringing out more tears.
"I'm sorry sir." She apologized again.
"That's it! You are always sorry. Did your silly apology change the fact that you disturbed my peace? Did it?" He asked and Alice shook her head, signifying a "no."
"Get ready I'll be going to drop you off at home. And don't waste my time." He said and was walking out of the room but Alice's statement made him stop midway.
"No sir. I can take a taxi back home." She spoke with a weak voice, barely a whisper.
He turned backwards, giving her a warning gaze that described "You won't dare reject my offer." And Alice understood that warning look on his face.
"Get ready, I'll be waiting for you downstairs." He spoke authoritatively before walking out of the guest room.
