The storm had passed by the next morning, and it was as if nothing I had been through had actually been real until we got down to the parking lot and the car wasn’t there. We had to take the bus to school, and even though it wasn’t a big yellow school bus I felt my guts twist and my heart ache as I stepped onto the bus as I remembered the way me and Tammie had completely ignored each other on that last bus ride home. I avoided the cafeteria and spent most of my time staring down at the floors until I was actually in class. I just wanted to get on with my work. I didn’t try to figure out if Blake was there, or think about Pippa and Nora. I just kept working, and eventually, the bell rang and it was time for lunch. I was actually relieved that I had to drag myself to Mr.Sharp’s office. A
