I was determined to seem casual when Blake arrived, but the way Brooke was shaking her head and smiling every time she caught my eye made it clear I was failing. I couldn’t help myself. I thought he hated me but now he was on the way here to spend time with me. I kept on picking things up and adjusting them pointlessly to keep myself busy, and I must have looked ridiculous to Brooke. I wanted to make a good impression.
