Eileen's POV
"Aurora, fxxk you such a b***h!"
I sweep my arm across the vanity in one clean motion. Everything goes at once — bottles, brushes, the perfume — the whole surface clearing with a single crash.
The maids freeze.
"Clean it up." I goad. "Now."
They scramble. I watch them for two seconds.
"Get out."
They go faster.
I stand alone in the center of the room and stare at my own reflection. My gold hair immaculate. Composure held together by nothing at all.
That manipulative little b***h.
Last night.
Logan in his suite, his hands all over Aurora, trying to mark her.
Damn it. I still didn't know how I'd managed to stand there and take it.
Aurora, that b***h. That goddamn slut.
I slammed the heel of my shoe against the floor.
Once.
Then again.
Five years.
Aurora had my man for five whole years. Wasn't that enough?
I was the fated mate, yet Logan still wanted to mark her?
She had to be playing him, acting hard to get while manipulating him behind the scenes. That scheming b***h.
Five years of learning Logan's every weakness, and last night she used all of it.
What made it even worse was that Aurora had a son—a brat I couldn't stand—so the moment I arrived, I was expected to play a kind stepmother.
"Aah!"
Every time I thought about it, I wanted him gone from my life.
The boy was every bit as insufferable as his mother.
I'd gone out of my way to make him a milkshake, and what did I get in return? Nothing but attitude and accusations.
The ungrateful little brat.
I'd never even stepped into a kitchen before in my life. That was work for servants, not me.
My lip curls.
Aurora is wolfless. She has no family influence behind her, no political standing, nothing except years of having made herself difficult to remove. That is all she is. And she has spent those years monopolizing a man who was never hers to begin with.
I lifted my chin and scoffed.
What am I actually afraid of?
The answer comes back before I can stop it.
I push it down, hard, and look at the silver scissors on the vanity.
I pick them up. Jasmine stirs immediately — a low, anguished sound deep inside my chest, my wolf's instinctive recoil from the silver in my hand.
"Jasmine." I keep my voice quiet. "We're going to trip that b***h up. And it's going to be soon."
I walk out.

Logan’s POV
These days, I can barely think straight.
Twenty-eight years as a wolf, and I have never been this tangled up in my own head. Not once.
Finding Eileen — Goddess. I still remember that night at the alliance banquet, the moment I walked in and the bond hit me like a wall. Her scent. The pull. Every single thing I had spent my entire life waiting for, right there. I felt like I had been living in a grey world and someone had just switched all the lights on. I was so happy I could barely breathe. I wanted to laugh out loud. I wanted to run.
That was everything I had imagined a fated mate would feel like.
But then.
I let out a long breath and stare at the ceiling.
Eileen is... not quite what I expected. Don't get me wrong — the bond is real, Canis is satisfied, I feel everything I'm supposed to feel. But she's spoiled. That's the only word for it. Everything has to happen on her terms, at her speed. She sulks when things don't move fast enough. She walks into a room like she's already decided she owns it. She says what she wants and expects the world to rearrange itself around her.
Aurora was never like that.
Aurora would walk into a problem and quietly fix it before I'd even noticed something was wrong. She always knew what I needed before I said it. Patient. Considerate. Warm without making a fuss about it. I took that for granted for it and I didn't even notice until Eileen arrived and suddenly everything felt louder. Harder to manage.
Now Aurora's closed off. Unpredictable. I can't get a read on her anymore, either.
I rub both hands over my face.
I get it, I do. This is a terrible situation for her. And Eileen's wolf and my wolf make everything more complicated — the possessiveness, the pull. But I've been trying to balance this. I've been trying to keep everything from boiling over. Why can't they just—
"What if we could only keep one?" Canis says.
"Don't start."
"I'm just asking."
"And I'm saying no. We can't give up on either of them."
"Then we might end up with neither." A pause. "Are we really going to be that greedy?"
I don't have an answer for that.
Three sharp knocks at the door.
"Alpha." The soldier sounds tense. "Miss Eileen and the Luna — they're downstairs. It's getting loud."
I'm already on my feet.
Before I turn the corner, Eileen spots me first. Her hand flies to her arm and her face crumples.
"Logan, you're finally here." Her voice wavers. "It hurts so much."
Aurora is standing three feet away. She glances at me once and looks away, expression flat, arms loose at her sides. The look that means she has already decided none of this is worth her energy.
"What happened?" I look at Eileen.
"I only came to apologize." Eileen's eyes go glassy. "I know what I did with the photo was wrong. I didn't realize it was the only one she had of her family. I just wanted to make it right — I even brought something to help repair it. But before I could explain, she pushed me away, and then she grabbed the scissors, a silver, and—" Her voice breaks off.
Blood ran down her arm, and I felt a stinging pain in mine.
I look at Aurora.
She doesn't look back at me right away. When she does, her voice is completely flat. "I don't have silver scissors."
"Then what," Eileen says, pointing to the table beside them, "are those?"
"You brought them."
"Are you serious right now?" Something flares in Eileen's voice. "Everyone in this pack knows silver is poison to us. Why would I bring something into this house that would hurt my own wolf? You're the only one here who doesn't have to be afraid of touching those things. You're the only one who could."
Aurora looks at her for a moment.
"Then you should get to the clinic." Her voice is almost pleasant. "Wait too long and the wound will close on its own. There won't be anything left to show anyone."
I glance at Eileen's arm. The cut is already fading at the edges — shallow to begin with, and Alpha bloodline heals fast.
Eileen turns back to me. Her eyes are wet, lip trembling just slightly. "Logan. Please."
I stand there and look between them.
I look at Aurora. "Apologize to her."
Aurora stares at me. Something moves across her face — shock, disbelief — and for a few seconds she just stands there, completely still.
Then she looks at Eileen. "I'm sorry."
I knew it.
I turn it over in my head and every piece fits. Aurora cut her. Of course she did. She's jealous — that's the only explanation. She sees Eileen here, sees everything shifting, and something snapped.
And then last night she threw a divorce at me.
But Aurora is not a cold person. She has never been a cold person. She's gentle, she's considerate, she would give you the shirt off her back without being asked — that's just who she is. So for her to grab silver scissors and go after someone? That's not cruelty.
That's panic.
She regrets it. The divorce, all of it. She said it because she was scared and now she doesn't know how to walk it back, so instead she's doing this — acting out, making noise, anything to get a reaction out of me.
I feel a smile pulling at the corner of my mouth.
I tell Eileen to get to the clinic right away and wave two soldiers over. They fall in on either side of her and she goes, shooting one last glance over her shoulder at me.
I wait until they're gone.
Then I turn to Aurora and I can't help it — I laugh. Just a little.
"You're jealous," I say.
She opens her mouth.
"Dinner tomorrow night," I say. "Just us."
I head upstairs before she can get a word in.
