Quote of the chapter ~
I'm going to fight for what's right
Today, I'm speaking my mind
And if it kills me tonight
I will be ready to die
A hero's not afraid to give his life
A hero's ready to live his life

CHAPTER 5 - MY FATHER SAYS HELLO
Selene POV
I was plagued with nightmares. Another thing new to me, like the ADHD and dyslexia.
I was back on the stretch of the country road that the Greyhound had broken down on. The fates, sitting at their fruit stand, regarded me with their ancient eyes. Their mouths didn't move, but I heard their voices in my head; raspy, yet strong, and full of power. "Like we had told you in your first dream, your fates are intertwined, child. You must stay with the son of the sea god. Guide him, be his ally. You are the turning point of this war. All of this bloodshed can be prevented by your hands, and your hands alone. Do not fail us. Like we had said, the course of fate rests on your shoulders."
My dream shifted.
I was standing in a dark cavern, sprits of the dead shifting around me. Screams of terror rang out from the chasm. I was standing at the edge of Tartrus. I could feel the pull, millions of dammed sould were slowly pulling me into the pit. A voice rumbled through the darkness, sounding like metal scraping against stone. It sent chills down my back. I was terrified. I knew that voice all too well, even though I had never heard it before. "Come down, little hero. Your little quest is futile. I will rise again, and Olympus WILL fall. You and your petty little friends will be the first to feel my wrath."
I shot up and started breathing heavily.
"Oh my gods! Okay, breathe. Breathe." A voice sounded to my left.
"Percy...?" I asked, still dazed. Light was blinding me, and there was a ringing in my ears. I had the smell of rotten meat in my nose, most likely left over from the skiff with the Minotaur.
"Um, no..." The voice said. It was deeper than Percy's, smoother, like the speaker spent his entire life sucking of cough drops, and drinking licorice tea. But it was definitely a young boy's voice.
I craned my neck, which was stiff, like it hadn't been used for a while. A blonde boy was sitting to my right bandaging my arm. Or rather, re-bandaging it. He had a stern face, but he looked my age, maybe a year or two younger. There were already worry lines on his forehead, and around his mouth, like he spent most of his time frowning, but his eyes had a childish twinkle in them. He also had krinkles around his eyes, like he spent most of his time smiling, which confused me, because of the worry lines around his mouth.
I collapsed back down onto the cot I laying on. My mouth fely unusually dry, and my eyes hurt every time I blinked. I slowly took in my surroundings.
I was in a big room, with hospital coutains hanging all around. I could see silhouettes of other kids, lying on cots, just like mine, behind the curtains. There were about a half dozen others, all wearing orange t-shirts, running around the room, grabbing gauze, crutches, and other medical supplies.
I groaned. "I'm in the infirmary, aren't I?"
The boy to my left blinked, suprise etched on his handsome face. "Um... yeah. You've been unconscious for two days. Most of your wounds have healed, thanks to the nectar and ambrosia, but you're still going to be sore for the next few days. It's remarkable how quickly your shoulder wound healed, in fact how quickly all of your wounds healed. Even without the nectar and ambrosia, your wounds were already sealing. We gave you some nectar and ambrosia just to be safe. I'm Will-"
"Solace. Yeah, I know who you are," I said. "Son of Apollo, healer, always smiling, can be serious when he wants to be, blah blah blah." I was being rude, I know, but at that point, I was in so much pain, and so tired that I really didn't care.
Will frowned. "Chiron mentioned in passing that you knew stuff. I didn't quite understand what he meant, but I guess you just explained it to me," He said. "So, I'm guessing that you aready know pretty much everything about camp?"
I nodded weakly. Suddenly I remembered something. I had come here with friends.
I shot up into a sitting position, which startled Will so badly, he feel out of his chair and landed on the floor with a thud.
"Percy! Where's Percy? And Grover? And Mrs. Jackson? Are they okay?" I demanded.
Will put a hand on my un-injured shoulder. "They're fine," he said, his voice soothing. My tense shoulders relaxed on their own accord. "As for Mrs. Jackson..." His usually smilling face turned grim. My shoulders tensed again. I felt a tear slip down my face, but I quickly wiped it away before Will could see it. I couldn't afford to seem weak at the moment.
"Grover just took your friend to see Mr. D and Chiron - or Mr. Brunner, at the moment."
I snorted. "That's an interesting conversation."
"What do you mean?" Will looked at me quizzically. Then just shook his head, and propped up my pillow so I could remain sitting up. "Never mind, I know what you mean. We've all been there before."
He gave me a glass of water, which I happily took from him. I drained the glass, and felt the now familiar rush of energy and adrenaline rush through my weak body. He examined my injures carefully. "You're legs and ankle have healed completely. Your arm still needs a little more time, but it should be okay by tomorrow. You cracked a few ribs when you hit Thalia's tree -"
"You mean when Pasiphaë's son smacked me into her tree," I deadpanned. My fingers clenched around the water glass as I remembered Percy's anguished scream as he watched his mother dissolve into golden light. My eyes sprung up with tears again, but I pushed them back. Crying was not going to get me any points here.
Will narrowed his eyes at me. "You're clever, knowing not to invoke their names. I heard that Percy kid talking to Grover earlier. He just flat out said his name."
I nodded. "Yeah, Percy tends to speak on impulse," I said. "Plus he doesn't really know the rules yet. He'll get better over time." 'Not' I mentally added.
"Hmm," Will muttered. Then he looked at me and managed a small, weak smile. "Well, anyways, welcome to Camp Half-Blood."
*
Will and I talked for a while, about the camp, and the various activities it offered. I sipped on a small glass of nectar while he tended to other campers. The godly drink tasted like my aunt's homemade Apple Pie. By the time he finished, the glass was empty, and I was strong enough to stand on my feet.
"Will, could you do me a favor?" I asked in a small voice. I wasn't sure if he could even hear me.
He shrugged. "Sure, why not? I'm not needed here anymore anyways.
"Good," I said. "I want to meet up with Chiron and Percy at the Hermes cabin."
He did a double take. "How did you-"
I cut him off. "I know things, remember? They're making their way to the Hermes cabin, to meet up with Annabeth Chase daughter of Athena. I want to catch them before Chiron leaves."
Will looked like he was going protest, but thought better of it, and just sighed. He gestured towards the door with his right hand. "The quickest way to the cabins is through here."
I followed Will out of the Camp infirmery. The camp took my breath away. It was simply breathtakingly amazing. I was pretty sure that my jaw was on the ground by now. The strawberry fields were lush and lively, as the sun beats down with moderate temperature, giving the strawberries a bright, red glow that radiates flavour and health. I saw campers, strys, and nymphs walking around, going from the archery range, to the lava wall, to the forges. The canoe lake glistened under the warm sun, sparking like diamonds. The woods towered over the camp threateningly. Without a doubt, the woods are the most dangerous and mysterious part of camp. They seem to go on forever, and hold many secrets not even the most experienced demigods know about. The woods are infested with monsters of all shapes and sizes.
Wil kicked a rock down the path. "So, Selene... who's your godly parent? Male or female? He asked curiously.
"Honestly?" I said. "I don't know. I grew up thinking that my mom and dad were my actual parents, at least that's what my uncle and aunt said." I hung my head. In this reality it meant that one of my parents was a cheater. Unless my parents weren't even married. For all I know, they could have been complete strangers to each other.
Will just hummed in response. "Well, what about your interests? Maybe we could try and narrow it down based on what you're hobbies are. I definitely wouldn't be the first time. So... what do you like to do?"
"Sword fighting," I immediately said. Will raised his eyebrows. "And archery, fighting with a spear, using hunting knives, using dual swords, and reading. But now it's more difficult for me to read without the words swimming off the page." I listed off my fingers.
"Probably because you have dyslexia. Most of us do. You probably have ADHD too. Have you tried reading Ancient Greek, or Latin?"
I shook my head. "No where to try, except here."
We had just reached the cabins. There wasn't anyone in the commons area. Nest to the brazier in the center of the cabins, I could see a young eight-year-old girl stoking next to the hearth and poking the coals with a stick. She had mousy brown hair and fire-red eyes. I noticed that her eyes are filled with flames, but they are warm and cozy unlike Ares' eyes, which are a raging fire. The girl was wearing a simple brown dress and a scarf over her head, which gave her the look of a pioneer child. Her body radiated power. Her scent was delicious, smelling like wood smoke and toasted marshmallows. I wanted to go say hello, but Will was already walking away from the fire. I opted for a simple wave instead. The girl smiled widely, pleased to be noticed.
We were passing the cabins with the even numbers. I stopped at cabin six. A gray building with plain white curtains and a design of an owl carving over the door, which was slightly cracked open. The interior has a workshop and a library. The library was filled with thousands of books and old scrolls, as well as tables and chairs for demigods to study and read. The workshop was crammed with tables and workbenches, and the cupboards were filled with materials to build things. There were also several 3-D models of buildings, blueprints, old war maps, and armor. The cabin was also filled with SMART boards and other things typically found in classrooms, with all the bunks shoved together against one wall. I sighed.
"What's wrong?" I heard Will ask from behind me.
"I was hoping that I could be a child of Athena," I muttered. "I always loved her stories. And Annabeth is awsome. But this just dosen't feel right to me. This doesn't feel like home, to me."
Will put a reassuring hand on my shoulder. "I'm sure who ever you're parent is, you'll know who it is. Like you said, you know things." He smiked, and for the first time, I could see a sence of humour in this kid. I could tell we were going to be good friends.
As we passed cabin four, Demeter, I started to chuckle.
"What's so funny?"
"Hmm? Oh nothing. I was just thinking, if my sister was like me, she would most definitely be a child of Demeter," I said, my chuckles turning into full blown laughter. "She can grow anything, literally. Her name is a flower, and it fits her personality perfectly. Unlike me. I somehow manage to kill every plant I touch."
"You have a sister?"
"Yeah. She's sixteen," I said. "Her name is Jasmine. And I can assure you that she's 100% mortal."
"Well, I'm glad that you're not a Demeter kid. They can be really scary at times. Like Katie Gardner. You do not want to get on her bad side, unless you want your bunk to be filled with poison ivy." Will steered me clear of cabin two, and was about to do the same for cabin one, when I stopped him. I was drawn towards that particular cabin. The Zeus cabin.
It marble building looking like a mausoleum, with heavy columns. The big bronze double doors are polished in such a way to provide a holographic effect of lightning bolts passing across. It also thunders all the time. It looked like a bank.
I touched the polished doors gingerly. I was scared that my hands might dirty it's clean surface. I pushed the ivory doors open. The interior has a dome-shaped ceiling that is decorated with moving mosaics of a cloudy sky and thunderbolts. A statue of Zeus in a traditional Greek chiton is centered in the room. It looked like a glaring hippie that was ten feet tall and had sight of every place in the room except a corner where Thalia had put her sleeping bag, and a few photos of herself, Luke, and Annabeth when they were younger, on the run. It had alcoves with golden eagle statues.
I felt warmth go through my body, like I was bathed in sunlight. It made me feel comfortable, safe. The winds picked up, and lightning flashed overhead.
A gentle wind lifted me off the ground, and out of the cabin, into the air. Thunder and lightning flashed behind me, illuminating my figure in the sunny sky.
Storm clouds gathered, and campers, styrs, and nymphs came to see what the commotion was about. Everybody was looking at me in awe. Well, not me in particular. They were looking at the top of my head. There was a blue holographic circle with a realistic looking master bolt in the centre.
I had just been claimed, and by Zeus no less!
FATES!!!
Now I'm a part of the prophecy as well. Kronos will try to manipulate me, as well as Percy.
"Oh," I said in realization. My voice was small. Loving hights, hearing birds talk (A story for another time), using a spear and swords, the winds pushing Nancy. It all made sense now!
I carefully lowered myself to the ground, as to not hurt my already frail body. Everybody's eyes were trained on me, in awe, astonishment and fear.
"Th- that's alomost im- impossible! The last child of the Big three... No one has ever been claimed that quickly before. But the prophecy..." There were rumors passing through the croud. Everybody was afraid of me.
I sighed. Oh great. More power. What's next? I become the daughter of Chaos - actually, don't answer that.
Will smiled nervously at me, his hands shaking. He bowed, which I'm sure was ment to be a formal gesture, but he was shaking from head to toe. The rest to the crowd followed his example. "All hail Selene Aetos. Daughter of Zeus, King of the gods, god of the sky, the heavens, weather, law, and justice.
***
This chapter is dedicated to @SonOfOlympusForever (From w*****d) for answering my question first, and giving me the right answer (even though @SonOfOlympusForever said all of the gods names before Zeus, but still).
So... Chapter five is done. This was just a small filler chapter explaining Selene's claming, and her meeting with Will Solace. What do you think about her claiming? A little too dramatic for you? Well Zeus likes to be extremely dramatic, so I thought why not. I wanted Selene to be claimed before Percy, so she dosen't have to suffer through the t*****e we call the Hermes cabin. I was having a little writers block about how to get her claimed 'cause there weren't any parts in the books that had a good timing for that sort of thing. I kinda wanted to make Zeus claim Selene with Percy, but the claiming should be about Percy, and Percy only.

How the cabins look -
Cabin 1 (Zues) - a marble building looking like a mausoleum, with heavy columns. The big bronze double doors are polished in such a way to provide a 'holographic' effect of lightning bolts passing across. It also thunders all the time. It is described as looking like a bank.
Cabin 2 (Hera) - is a marble, formal-looking building, graceful with slim columns garlanded with pomegranates and flowers. It is done similarly to her husband, Zeus' cabin except smaller. However, Hera's cabin is more graceful, having slimmer columns with pomegranates and flowers around them. The walls also have images of peacocks carved on them, as well as the doors.
Cabin 3 (Poseidon) - is a long, low building with windows facing the ocean. The cabin is made from rough sea stone, pieces of coral and seashell embedded into the outside walls, and a trident with a big bronze number 3 over the door. Percy described its smell of the cabin similar to the cabin at Montauk, where his mother and father met. Percy also states that there is always a good sea breeze blowing through it.
Cabin 4 (Demeter) - is covered in flowers and tomato plants grow on the walls and doorway. Wildflowers and roses grow on the porch. It has a real grass roof. The cabin is colored a light shade of brown.
Cabin 5 (Ares) - is badly painted red and has a large boar's head over the door with barbed wire on the roof. Annabeth mentioned it did have land mines, but I thought she might have been joking. Rock music is constantly blaring from it.
Cabin 6 (Athena) - is a gray building with an owl carved over the doorway and plain white curtains. In the graphic novel, the cabin is shown as a temple with columns, a red roof, and an owl carving on the door.
Cabin 7 (Apollo) - is made of solid gold and made to glow during the daytime - it's hard to tell if the gold is reflecting light or generating it.
Cabin 8 (Artemis) - is an all silver building with silver curtains, similar to the outfit of the Hunters. It also glows silver during night time as if reflecting the moon but looks like a normal cabin in the day. It is decorated with paintings and carvings of wild animals, but mostly the stag. does not have children of her own and the cabin is honorary; however it is used by the , the adopted children of Artemis when they visit the camp.
Cabin 9 (Hephaestus) - it looks like a small factory, with brick walls and smokestacks like the forges and lots of gears around the entrance.
Cabin 10 (Ahrodite) - is a wooden cabin with a painted blue roof, pillars, checkerboard deck with steps and gray walls. It also has a pink door and potted carnations by the window. It also smells heavily of designer perfume. Piper describes it as 'a giant Barbie house where supermodels go to die', and she's totally right. Ughh, get me away from thet smell.
Cabin 12 (Dionysus) - has its roof and walls lined with grapevines. (I don't know mutch about Cabin 12).
