Fear

At home, Maya Yuni did her homework and had dinner with her mother, who would leave for work soon. She was always working. "Don't go out, Yuni." "I don't know anyone in the city, and I wouldn't be crazy to go out after what happened to me. It even took me a while to start breathing normally again." "But it wasn't your fault, my daughter. Just ensure you are never at fault and don't make mistakes like I did." The mistake was her and her brother. Maya knew that being a single mother was tremendously difficult, but it hurt to be classified that way. After dinner, she went to her room and got ready for bed. She felt satisfied to have overcome the first day, despite the initial anxiety, and even more grateful to Emma. Before sleeping, Yuni took her diary and began to write about the day. She expressed her fears, her joys, and her hopes for the future. She was confident that, in time, she would fully adapt to the new school and make a few more friends. She remembered the problem boy at school. He had Asian features and was handsome, very handsome, tall and... She shook her head, she couldn't even imagine looking at a boy. Sleep came and went, so she got up and spent some time at the window, watching some boys ride bicycles. Then she noticed a boy skateboarding, and she recognized who it was. Anésio glided through the square skillfully, his skateboard flowing smoothly over the concrete. As he performed his maneuvers, Maya gazed at him attentively through her bedroom window. She watched, with evident admiration, she had never seen a boy so handsome and elegant. Her eyes shone with fascination as he moved with dexterity. However, Anesio must have noticed her gaze, because he turned to look at her, and waved. He was good at what he did, but she closed the window and refused to think about that boy. She laid down. She closed her eyes and told herself that boys always brought trouble, and she had ended up in the hospital because of one. It took her a while to sleep. And finally, when she managed to drift into sleep, her dreams became tumultuous and disturbing. She found herself in the middle of a crowd, surrounded by cheerleaders who seemed to exude a threatening energy. Suddenly, Yuni found herself on the ground, and felt a sharp, searing pain coursing through her body. The deafening noise of the crowd echoed around her, mixing with her cries of agony. It was like a football match, but she was the ball on the field, being kicked, her rib was broken. As she struggled to get up, the cheerleaders continued to dance and cheer, ignoring her distress, but someone was kicking her too, and she couldn't scream. Yuni felt powerless and scared, unable to escape that oppressive scene. She woke up, but was still trembling under the covers. "You can't look at a boy Yuni, Maya Yuni can't look at a boy, especially the most handsome boy in the whole school. You can't." Yuni repeated those words until she got tired and fell asleep again. And because of the nightmare, she woke up tired. She went to the shower to calm down, but when it was time to get dressed, she went to get one of her mother's oversized shirts, so she wouldn't attract too much attention. At that moment, all she wanted was to survive long enough to graduate and live a peaceful life.
