Episode Seventeen: đThe Wolf Withinđ
The moon was high when Aria jolted awake. Her body trembled, sweat slicking her skin. She gasped for air, clutching her chest. The dream still burned behind her eyesâvisions of fire, blood, and her silver wolf standing above a field of corpses.
Her wolfâs voice whispered in her mind, stronger than ever.
Stop denying me. You know what you are.
Aria squeezed her temples. âNo⊠Iâm not like her. I wonât become that monster.â
But when she looked in the mirror, her reflection betrayed her. Silver light shimmered beneath her skin, her eyes glowing faintly even without shifting. It was growing harder to hide.
The door creaked open. Damon stepped inside, his scent filling the roomâcedar and smoke, grounding her. He froze when he saw her reflection in the mirror.
âAria,â he said carefully, voice low. âYour eyes.â
She turned quickly, shame flooding her. âI canât control it anymore.â
Damon crossed the room in two strides, pulling her into his arms. His warmth wrapped around her, steadying the storm. âThen Iâll control it for you,â he whispered fiercely. âI wonât let it consume you.â
But even as he held her, she felt the doubt in his touchâthe question he dared not voice: What if even he couldnât stop it?

Far beyond the packâs borders, Kael knelt before a circle of hooded witches. Their fire cast twisted shadows across his scarred face.
âSheâs wavering,â Kael said, a dark smile curving his lips. âThe pack fears her. The Alpha clings to her. And soon, her power will devour them both.â
The eldest witch raised her staff, eyes burning. âThe Silverbane bloodline is a blade. In the wrong hands, it destroys. In the right handsâŠâ She trailed off, her smile sharp. âIt conquers.â
Kaelâs jaw tightened. âShe belongs with me. She was always meant to stand at my side, not his.â
âThen make her choose,â another witch hissed. âHer Alpha⊠or her blood.â
Kaelâs red eyes gleamed with hunger. âAnd when she chooses blood, sheâll choose me.â

The next day, the pack trained under Damonâs watchful eye. Warriors sparred in the courtyard, steel clashing, wolves shifting mid-combat. But every time Aria passed, conversations faltered, eyes followed her.
Their fear was suffocating.
âDonât let it get to you,â Damon murmured, his hand brushing hers. âTheyâll come around.â
Aria forced a nod, but inside, her wolf laughed bitterly.
They will never accept us. You belong to neither their world nor his.
Her claws pricked her palms.
Suddenly, a warrior stumbled back mid-spar, blood streaking his arm. The scent hit her like lightning. Warm, metallic. Her wolf surged forward, hungry.
Take it.
âNo!â Aria gasped, clutching her chest. But her vision blurred, silver light flooding her veins. Her wolf snarled, trying to break free.
âAria!â Damon was at her side in an instant, gripping her shoulders. His Alpha command rolled through the air like thunder. âBreathe. Focus on me!â
She fought for control, digging her nails into his arms. Sparks erupted where they touched, the bond crackling like wildfire. Slowly, painfully, her wolf retreated.
But when she opened her eyes, the warriors were staring at her in horror.
âShe almost lost it,â one whispered. âSheâs dangerous.â
âSilence!â Damon roared, his aura silencing the courtyard. His gaze swept the warriors, cold and merciless. âOne more word against your Luna, and youâll answer to me.â
Still, the fear lingered. And it carved deeper into Ariaâs heart.

That night, Aria stood alone on the balcony, staring at the forest. Damon had fallen into an uneasy sleep, but her own eyes refused to close.
Her wolf stirred again, restless.
Kael waits for us. He understands what we are. Damon never will.
Ariaâs chest ached. She hated the truth in those words. She wanted to deny it, but the bond tugged herâboth toward Damon and toward something darker calling from the woods.
As the wind rustled the trees, a figure stepped from the shadows.
Kael.
His red eyes met hers, burning with a mix of fury and longing. He lifted a hand slowly, palm open, an unspoken invitation.
Her breath caught. She should scream. She should call Damon. But her wolf pressed against her chest, whispering like a lover:
Go.
The night was silent, except for the pounding of her heart.
And Aria realized the war wasnât just outside the walls anymoreâit was inside her.
