Episode Nine:👻 Whispers in the Shadows👻 The night air hung heavy over the pack lands, charged with unease. Aria stood at her window, silver moonlight spilling over her long black hair. Her wolf stirred beneath her skin, restless, whispering warnings she couldn’t ignore. Her brother’s eyes haunted her—those burning crimson flames that promised war. Every instinct screamed that he wasn’t retreating, only waiting. And yet, something else lingered in her chest. Damon’s touch. His voice. The way he had smirked at her earlier, a dangerous blend of pride and possession. Her fists clenched. She hated him. She wanted him. The bond was a fire she couldn’t smother. A knock on her door snapped her from her thoughts. “Come in,” she called, masking her emotions. Damon stepped inside, dressed in black, his golden eyes gleaming in the dim light. His presence filled the room, commanding, suffocating, intoxicating. “You didn’t sleep,” he observed, voice low and certain. She crossed her arms, bristling. “You didn’t come here to check on my sleep.” His smirk tugged at the corner of his lips. “You’re sharper than the rest.” He stepped closer, and every nerve in her body ignited. “I came to make sure you’re ready.” “Ready for what?” He tilted his head, studying her. “Your brother isn’t done. He’ll test you before he comes for me. I want you prepared.” Aria swallowed hard. Her wolf clawed at her insides, eager for battle, yet her heart clenched. “Prepared? Or controlled?” Damon’s expression hardened. “Both.” Before she could protest, he tossed something onto her bed—a blade, its handle etched with runes. “A wolf hunter’s dagger,” he explained. “Silver edge. Cuts deeper than claws.” She picked it up, the weight solid in her palm. “You think I need a weapon to defend myself?” “No,” he said simply, stepping closer until the heat of his body brushed hers. “But I need to see if you can wield it. If you can lead. The pack is whispering, Aria. Half of them fear you. Half of them want you to save them. Which side will you prove right?” Her breath hitched, but she forced steel into her voice. “And what do you want me to be, Damon? Your mate or your weapon?” For once, his smirk faded. His golden eyes softened, though only for a heartbeat. “Both. Always both.” He left the dagger in her hand and turned toward the door. “Meet me at the training grounds. Don’t be late.” The door clicked shut behind him, leaving her trembling—not from fear, but from the storm of emotions that came with his presence. --- The training grounds were silent when she arrived, the moon high and cold. Damon waited in the center, shirt discarded, his muscular frame glistening with sweat as he shifted his stance. He looked every bit the Alpha—lethal, beautiful, untouchable. Aria’s heart skipped, but she forced her wolf forward, silver eyes gleaming. “Let’s get this over with.” Damon smirked. “Try to kill me.” “What?” “You heard me,” he said, stepping closer, muscles flexing. “Come at me as if I’m your enemy. If you hold back, you’ll never survive your brother.” Her blood roared. She lunged, dagger flashing in the moonlight. Damon moved with terrifying speed, dodging, countering, forcing her to adapt. Their bodies collided, strength against strength, fire against silver. Her wolf howled in delight as sparks of power rippled through her veins. For the first time, she felt alive in the fight. But Damon was faster. He caught her wrist, twisting it until the dagger clattered to the ground. His chest pressed against her back, his breath hot against her ear. “Too slow,” he murmured. Aria’s rage flared. She slammed her head back into his jaw, breaking free. The dagger was in her hand again before he could blink. She spun, blade at his throat, chest heaving. His golden eyes widened, then darkened with something far more dangerous than anger. Lust. Admiration. Claim. “Good,” he rasped, not moving away. “That’s the Luna I need.” Her pulse thundered. The bond between them burned hotter than the moon itself, pulling her closer even as her mind screamed to resist. Her wolf pressed forward, wanting him, needing him. But before the moment could snap, a howl split the night. Both their heads whipped toward the trees. A wolf stood at the border, red eyes glowing. Aria’s chest tightened—it wasn’t her brother, but one of his scouts. The message was clear. He was watching. Waiting. Damon’s jaw clenched, and he gently lowered her dagger hand. “It begins.” Aria’s breath caught. The war wasn’t a distant threat anymore—it was at their door. To be continued…
