Chapter 10: Continuation

655 Words
They could all burn in hell together because they are so weak-minded! They deserve each other. A family of gullible fools, liars, and cheaters! What kind of girl would ever make up a lie like that just to be laughed at and branded as dirty? Huh? Who in their right mind would waste their breath shouting to the world that she was r***d just to get attention? Damn! I was just screaming because I wanted someone to notice me and help me that day! To prove that I was telling the truth! But all of them turned their backs on me. Every year, Porin would call me on our father's birthday, and I would always ignore it. This was the first time I had actually picked up, which only made things clearer. They wanted me to show up just so everyone would think I had finally 'moved on' from the past and that our family was perfectly fine. Are they completely oblivious? Just hearing their name—my last name—brings all the pain rushing back. While Porin was still talking, I simply hung up, ignoring her completely. Don't act like we're close, sister. You and your mother ruined me. I spent the entire day packing my belongings. I couldn't bear to live in this apartment for another second, every single corner was stained with memories of Vin. He loved me, but he wasn't faithful enough to choose me. He claimed he loved me, yet he couldn't even answer my questions without doubting himself. Now that I was looking back, I wondered if what we had was even love at all—or if I was just too naive to know the difference between love, pity, and sheer convenience. Using Cheizeru's connections, I quickly put the apartment up for sale so I could move into a condominium closer to my workplace. I wanted to buy a place of my own, something I could truly call mine, with no traces of the past and only the scent of a fresh start. Cheizeru was incredibly smart, she managed to find a buyer who was willing to pay even higher than my initial asking price. Two days later, all of my things were cleared out. My belongings were already moved into my new condo. I had managed to pay off half of the condo's value, and I planned to pay the remaining balance in full once the proceeds from the apartment sale went through. Before walking out of the gate for the last time, I turned back to look at the apartment. We had spent so much time here. I silently hoped the new owner would take good care of it, because I had truly loved this home. It had been a quiet witness to everything Vin and I had survived, and ultimately, to how we fell apart. As I was locking the gate, my entire body suddenly froze. A voice spoke from directly behind me—a voice I had missed so desperately, even though it was no longer my name he called out when he was happy. "Ho— Rui?" I swallowed hard, trying to gather the strength to face him. Before I could even turn around, he grabbed my arm to pull me toward him. I instantly yanked my arm back and glared at him from head to toe. He looked like an absolute mess. His clothes were completely wrinkled, and his hair looked like it hadn't seen water in days. ‘What happened to him? Why does it look like he hasn't slept in years? His hair has grown so long, and he even has a mustache, like he just let himself go. This was exactly what he wanted, wasn't it? To be free of me. So why did he look like this? What was he going to say now? That he suddenly realized he couldn't live without me?’ What a tired, pathetic excuse.
