I was violently jolted awake by the blaring ringtone of my phone. It felt like it had been ringing on a loop for ages. Groggy and deeply irritated by the relentless noise, I reached into my mini pouch on the vanity table near the bed.
"Hello—"
"Where the hell are you?! I've been waiting for you here at the house since... no, since last night! And yet, not even your shadow showed up!" Vin roared, aggressively cutting off my greeting.
If I had known it was him calling, I wouldn't have bothered answering. I glanced at the screen. Sure enough, his contact name, complete with a nauseating heart emoji, stared back at me. I noted to edit that later because it made me feel physically sick.
"Oh, so you're at the house? As far as I recall, you were far too busy?" I replied flatly.
I sat up, leaning heavily against the headboard as I massaged my temples to soothe a budding headache.
"What the?! Don't tell me you're letting your ridiculous jealousy get the better of you again!"
I rolled my eyes dramatically, letting my gaze drift up to the beautiful ceiling. I truly adored this room.
Thank goodness it wasn't a dream and I had actually run into that i***t last night. Was he even awake yet?
"Hey! Hon? Are you even listening to me?"
"Yeah. I'm coming home. Bye," I stated flatly before cutting the line.
I exhaled a heavy sigh and got out of bed to take a shower. I needed to go back and finally deal with Vin.
I slipped into a knee-length red dress from the closet. I figured I would just borrow it for now since it suited me perfectly. I kept my own shoes on, though—it felt entirely too shameless to borrow footwear as well. Just because we shared the exact same size didn't mean I could just claim everything as my own. Before heading downstairs, I made sure to freshen up. I stole one last glance at the beautiful room before pulling the door shut with a slight pout.
At the very least, even if it was just for a single night, I was allowed to feel like I actually belonged somewhere. Because everything I loved was gathered right here inside his home.
"Hi, good morning!" I greeted cheerfully the moment I found him in the kitchen, meticulously arranging breakfast on the table. My eyes scanned the room for a clock, and I was shocked to see it was already 11:00 AM. So, this was technically lunch.
"GOOD MORNING, Darling," he replied, throwing a sharp wink my way that made me grimace.
"Stop being so flirty. I'm not used to it."
He simply smiled and pulled out a chair for me.
"I can do it... Also, I wanted to let you know that I need to head home now. He's waiting for me," I murmured bashfully.
But he acted completely deaf to my words, sliding a freshly brewed mug of hot chocolate right in front of me instead.
"Eat first, and I'll take you home when you're done."
I didn't know why, but I instantly turned into a meek, obedient lamb. He sounded incredibly serious just now. Was this guy secretly bipolar or something?
“Meow.”
I stopped mid-chew, the sound catching me off guard.
‘Where is it?’
I scanned the room, looking for the source, and my eyes widened the moment I spotted it.
“So cute!” I squealed, rushing toward the cat. He was incredibly fluffy, but he wore a grumpy expression and immediately rolled his eyes at me. Behind me, I heard Sutehan laughing from the table.
“That’s Grumpy,” he chuckled. “He doesn’t like people who act too familiar.”
I shot him a sharp, warning glare, which instantly silenced his laughter and made him look away.
The cat was a beautiful, thick-furred gray with striking blue eyes. He must have had some American breed in him—hihi.
“Hi, I’m your Mommy Rui,” I cooed, leaning in to kiss him. He let out a low, grumpy grumble in protest. Such a brat! He had the same attitude as his owner, but I was determined—eventually, you’ll soften up to me just like he did.
“Grumpy, I told you she’s your Mom. I also told you to be kind to her,” Sutehan scolded, but the cat just wiggled away and darted toward the living room.
“I think he’s sulking,” I murmured with a pout, watching Grumpy’s retreating form until he disappeared from sight.
I heard Sutehan burst into another round of laughter, but I didn’t bother reacting. My mind was already completely occupied by Grumpy’s cuteness. I couldn’t stop thinking about how adorable he was—I just wanted to shower his face with kisses.
Why didn’t I see him earlier? It was such a shame.
Once we finished our meal, he kept his word and drove me straight to the apartment Vin and I shared. We were parked right outside, but before I could unbuckle, he caught my wrist, stopping me from stepping out.
"So, you two are living together?"
I turned to look at him, my eyes dropping to his hand tightly gripping my wrist. It was as if he had just been hit by a sudden electric shock because he let go instantly.
"Yeah, for a while now. We've been living together for five years," I answered briefly.
He adjusted his posture in his seat.
"Thank you for the ride—"
I didn't even get to finish my sentence because he practically bolted out of the car. To my surprise, he walked around and gently opened the passenger door for me.
"You're welcome, milady," he said, offering a dramatic bow that earned him a sharp glare from me.
"See you never again!" I snapped playfully, quickly rushing through the apartment gate without a single glance back.
"My pleasure," I heard his laughing voice echo behind me.
He’s such a flirt, I thought, clicking my tongue in annoyance.
