Fiery hair and Forest green eyes

"Curtis." Curtis started when he heard the familiar voice of his friend. Sure enough, Maeve slid right up next to him flashing her wide smile that lit up her pretty face. They had been friends since the separation made them neighbors and they practically grew up together. Curtis returned the smile. "Hi Maeve, I didn't see you yesterday when we were coming." Maeve smile became even wider reducing her eyes to crescent for a second, she was pleased that Curtis noticed that she wasn't at the move the day before. "Late nail appointment." She said showing him her new nail polish. It was done in pale blue with tiny orange hearts drawn in it. It did not escape his notice that those were his and her favorite colors. He was well aware of Maeve's crush on him. Even though she never said anything, her body language were anything but subtle. He however decided to not address the issue for as long as he could put it off since he didn't think of her that way. He had contemplated telling her where he stood with her a few times in the past, Infact it had been at the tip of his tongue, but he would stop himself knowing how awkward such a discussion would be, especially if she denied it. So he felt it was better to let sleeping dogs lie. Sure, Maeve was stubborn and mischievous as he was but he only saw her as a sibling. Moreover, the fact that he already had her wrapped around his finger was a bit disappointing. Her crush on him made her actions and reactions very predictable. And for a man that loved being challenged, he was sure that a relationship with Maeve would eventually become boring. The nail was well done and very detailed though so he had to acknowledge that. "It looks great on you." He complimented to watch her blush like she always did whenever he gave her any compliments. He grinned to himself when she did just that, flicking her blue hair to regain her composure. Just then, he caught sight of the Elfin princess' fiery orange hair. He easily recognized her because the hair color was a very rare color which made her stand out especially with its pink streaks. Moreover, if her gem studded tiara didn't indicate her royal status, her hair length did. Only royal Elves kept their hair longer than their waist. And she had the hair down. Just like Curtis had suspected, her hair was a beautiful sight to see when free of those twists and hairpins ladies used to make elaborate hairstyles. Her red locks moved and fit nicely over the white riding outfit she had on as she attempted to climb a white Pegasus. Curtis swallowed in admiration. " Wow, isn't she magnificent?" "Excuse me?" Maeve said clearly hurt that he was staring at and complimenting another lady while they were discussing. Curtis glanced at her offended expression having momentarily forgotten that she was there. He rolled his eyes at her, Maeve had always been a little attention seeker so her behavior did not surprise him in the least. By the way, could she be anymore obvious? "The Pegasus." He clarified and went back to staring. She was was very pretty with a long pink mane on her spotless white neck. She was a bit smaller than his Pegasus but just as magnificent. Curtis could not help but think she suited her rider well, said rider seemed to be having trouble mounting her steed. "I wonder what breed she is." He muttered making his way over to the beast. Maeve rolled her eyes at Curtis and his infatuation with Pegasuses but she followed him anyway. Being able to fly wasn't enough for him. He had to be on a dangerous beast to really feel the rush. It was one of his weird behavior that she had concluded that she would never understand. When Curtis got to the Pegasus, Evol was still attempting to hoist herself over the horse that was now getting restless from the princess constantly rubbing against it's side in her attempt to mount it. The winged horse restless stomping combined with her small stature made it impossible for her to mount without a saddle. Grabbing the princess by her waist, Curtis lifted her into place on the Pegasus. The startled princess glanced up to see who had helped her up. Curtis couldn't believe how big her eyes were and oh so beautifully green. They made her look like a porcelain doll. Before he could notice her other features, she ducked her head and muttered a quiet thanks. "Am sorry, I didn't quite hear you princess." He teased to get a rise out of her. "I said thanks." Evol repeated through gritted teeth. Curtis chuckled in reply. "Do you think it's wise to go out riding by yourself, princess? We wouldn't want you to fall off and break something, would we?" He drawled sounding amused. Her head flew up and her beautiful forest green eyes flashed. Curtis wasn't quite sure why her clear annoyance pleased him as much as it did. He just thought the expression suited her way better than the demure princess he had seen last night. Too soon, she lowered her gaze going back to being the perfect Elfin princess. "I am perfectly able to ride by myself, Prince Curtis." She replied shortly. Curtis couldn't help but be amused by the biting tone she used to call his name. He really couldn't help baiting her once again. "Just now, you couldn't even mount the mare by yourself. I'm terrified to think of what might happen when you do fly her. I'm afraid your tiny frame would not be able to handle her." He said, his eyes daring her to deny his statement or even to react to it. Evol ignored his insinuations and decided to be the bigger person. This prince she barely knew seemed to love infuriating her but she wouldn't give him the pleasure of seeing her lose her cool. Evol closed her eyes and mentally counted down from ten, barely holding her tongue. Be the perfect princess, Evol. Princesses don't get riled up easily. Princesses don't punch arrogant princes in their face. The sound of Shore's whining made her glance up. The arrogant prince was gently stroking Shore's mane and Shore seemed to be loving it. Evol felt jealousy raze through her system. She prided herself on being the only one Shore allowed to tame or ride her but now the Pegasus was leaning into the Prince's touch like a lady in love as he cooed at her. Whatever happened to sisters before misters? Evol wondered in her mind. Apparently, all it took was a handsome prince for Shore to forget their years of friendship. Evol's brain hit a screeching halt as she realized what she had just thought. She had just called the annoying prince... –handsome? Did she really consider him good-looking? Evol peeked at him. Well, with the fond smile he was currently giving Shore, she could at least give him a pass mark. She refused to give him any more than that. No matter how sharp his jaws look or how strong and nice his nose was or how broad his shoulders were. She liked to think that she was not a shallow person so.... No, all the arrogant prince was getting was a pass mark. His eyes met hers dancing with unbridled amusement as though he could read her thoughts or maybe because he had caught her staring at him. Evol scoffed looking away to hide her reddening cheeks . What she'd give to slap that smug look right off his face without getting in any trouble but she knew her mother would be furious at her if she heard of any misconduct especially towards one of their guests. She let herself enjoy the thought of possibly doing it as she kicked Shore into flight without a goodbye. Curtis and Maeve both stood and watched the duo soar. Maeve's observed the princess with narrowed eyes. In another situation, she might have admired a non fairy being in charge in the air especially on a wild creature like a Pegasus but right now all she could think of was the rather heated conversation between the two royals. She glanced between the princess and the prince to see that he had already turned away. Maeve hurried after him to keep up with his long hurried strides. He paused briefly at the Orchid to pick water roses. When he turned back, he showed it to her. "What do you think? Do you think Princess Coral would like them?" Maeve hesitated, torn between telling a lie or risk loosing her crush to someone else. Who the heck was Princess Coral anyways? "Is it the princess that just left?" She asked instead. "She doesn't seem like the type for flowers." Curtis scoffed and shook his head. "Princess Evol, that one's a tiny package of firecrackers. In other words, a whole lot of trouble. Princess Coral, the Mer-princess is the one I'm courting." Maeve nodded at him, even though her heart was breaking at the thought of Curtis courting someone else, she even forced a smile. "Yeah, any princess would love that." ******* Daiv stood by and watched from a distance as King Gnight discussed with Princess Coral about the letter Prince Curtis had sent early that morning to their quarters requesting to visit with the princess later that morning. He watched as the princess nodded, most probably accepting the visit judging by the big pleased smile on the King's face. Only the king though, he noticed the queen give Coral a sad smile. Like, exactly! he wanted to do the same right at that moment. He had gotten major bad vibes from the prince the other night when he had caught him staring at her at the dinning hall. He might as well have been looking at a piece of fish that was up for sale with the way he was staring at her. Daiv could smell.... Corim's? Kantis'?, whatever his name was, evil intentions miles away. He was most likely a promiscuous male looking for his next conquest. He had monopolized the princess the whole night taking her polite smile at face value and not considering the fact that her feet might be hurting from dancing all night in shoes that she wasn't used to. Last night, Daiv had had to give Coral a foot massage before she went to bed so they wouldn't be hurting this morning. Which proved just how selfish the prince was. Overall, he was a bad match for Coral. Probably a two out of ten and only because he was a royal like Coral. He didn't deserve Coral. Nobody did. She was too sweet and naive to be left in the care of anyone much less a playboy prince. Daiv couldn't just stand and watch the sweet, innocent, and ultimately gullible princess fall into the older and more experienced prince's trap. It was his duty as a good companion. The knock on the sliding door startled them all for a second. "That must be the prince. Daiv please invite him in." King Gnight instructed him. Daiv moved the door as slowly as he could manage without looking like that was what he was doing. He took his sweet time opening the door hoping that with any luck, the prince would have left out of impatience. Even when he did open the door, he slid it just wide enough for him to slide out to face the Prince. He scoffed internally when he saw the water roses in the prince's hands. He probably assumed because she was from the sea, Coral might like the transparent plant but Coral actually always said they were the most dreadful flowers due to their lack of colors in their petals. "We didn't send for flowers." He told the prince pretending to have mistaken the prince for a servant. He was more than pleased as he saw confusion cloud the prince's face, then realization that made his eyes narrow at him. The prince definitely remembered him from the night before and knew he was intentionally baiting him. "I am prince Curtis. I'm here to see the princess." The prince said after giving him a hard stare. Daiv stood his ground deciding not to back down no matter how intimidating the other male looked. "Oh, you are that guy?" He looked the prince over from his silver hair to his sandaled feet and back up to his face. He gave Curtis and unimpressed look. "Come in then. You're late." He finally opened the door to let the prince walk inside but not before whispering to him. "I'll be watching you." Daiv couldn't let Coral fall for the prince's tricks, the prince would just take advantage of her sweet nature. It was up to him to make sure that Coral's emotions would not be toyed with. It was his duty as her companion.
