Chapter 1 : Could be Mate

Emerald’s POV

My palm landed just above my heart, shocked is an understatement to describe how I feel right now.

My heart just skipped a beat.

He was also obviously shocked to see me, he was taken a back but tried to keep his cool. The guys who were with him wondered why he froze for a second. He looked away from me and shrugged them off, giving their orders to the barista.

“You know him Em?” -Kai asked through mind link and I shook my head no still staring at him quite obviously.

They sat down a table from the other end of the shop with a pillar covering my view of him.

I didn’t know I was holding my breath till then.

I wanted to steal another glance at him, maybe just once. So I excused myself saying I’d go check on Opal. The restrooms were located by the side of the cafe. The door opened and Opal stepped out giving me a wondering look as to why I was there?

“You need to pee?”

I yanked her arm before she could say anything else and pulled her with me taking a sharp turn towards an empty table just where I can see the pretty boy’s face. He wasn’t looking at us but it was obvious he could tell we were there. He felt like an alpha.

“Let’s order.” I said raising my arm to call a waiter. She looked confused.

“The guy to my left”

I mind linked.

She raised a brow and took her phone out before scanning the room acting conspicuous as she can. Then she caught a glimpse of him and her jaw fell.

“So hot.”

I kicked her leg underneath the table.

“Aww Em.”

She pouted but I glared at her.

“He’s a warewolf! he can hear you!”

“What was that? you want hot coffee? which one?” I asked naturally, or at least I hope I did.

She nodded her head and looked like she understood.

“Huh? uhm, yes, hot coffee.” she was anything but natural.

“Stop staring! your blowing our cover!”

“What cover? who is he? let’s say hi!”

She was grinning still staring at him then she looked at me and gave me the wide eyes, urging me that we should say hi.

“No way! he shrugged me off earlier!”

“Then let’s say hi again till he doesn’t!”

She smiled at me and looked like she believed she had the brightest idea.

The waiter came to us and asked for our orders, I just ordered whatever and some cake.

From my peripheral view he looked our way for a bit then looked away again.

I texted Daliah saying we would take a while. Opal was still staring and I just left her be.

Daliah: [You taking a dump or somethin? need wet ones and some tissues?]

I crinkled my nose.

Me: [No thanks.]

Opal squealed a bit which made me look at her, wondering what was wrong. She was looking at my left.

“This seat taken ladies?”

My eyes widened and I didn’t want to look at him. His voice was like music to my ears and I could feel my face turning hot which was weird but I couldn’t help it!

“No, beside mine also isn’t, wanna sit here?”

I could hear Opal’s excited response.

We were sitting on a table for four where Opal sat across from me. He was asking if the seat beside mine was taken.

I heard him take a seat across from me, probably beside Opal.

By that point it was rude to not look at him even though he did shrug me off earlier.

Well more like shrugged at his friends, but I feel sulky so what? Ughh, now I’m getting defensive at nothing.

Slowly turning my head to face them. I almost hit my forehead with my palm when I saw Opal practically gawking at him from the side with a permanent grin on her face. He smiled at her which made me a bit giddy and jealous at the same time. A weird but fulfilling feeling.

He turned his head towards me and grinned, but not like how he smiled at Opal.

“So you’re identical twins?”

Yeah no sh*t.

“Yes we are, cool isn’t it? I’m Opal and she’s Emeral—, Em why’s your face so red? Are you okay?”

That made me blush even more.

The waiter came with our drinks, thanks Goddess.

I could feel him staring at me which made me look away. I felt a bit hot, mainly on my face and ears.

“Castiel, nice to meet you. Mind if I join you for a while?” not sure who he was talking to but Opal answered yes, I was just staring at my drink.

“Yes, yes you can.”

Opal was ecstatic and I was jus an uncomfortable nervous wreck.

“That’s a strong drink you ordered, brave of you.” he was mocking us and so that made me glare at him and raise a brow.

Well his tone was plainly mocking.

“Don’t get me wrong, just that I can’t handle a bitter drink.”

“Well, I can.” -Me

I can’t.

I just ordered anything from the menu without thinking about it. I was too occupied earlier. Darn it, me and my mouth.

“You just hate to be wrong don’t you?” Opal mind linked with a teasing grin on her face.

“You mocking me? just how easily influenced are you?”

“Haha, I just unconsciously follow people I like?”

My brows furrowed.

“He’s weird!”

“No he’s not! you are! why do you hate him?”

I gasped at that.

“You-“

“Is anything wrong?”

That made both of us look at him. He cut me off and that annoyed me even more. Nonetheless, something inside me didn’t want him hating me. The feeling of hating him and wanting him not to hate me was clashing inside me and it made my head hurt so I just pouted unconsciously.

“Ohh he likes youu.”

Opal gave me that teasing grin and goofy face.

“The hell you talking about love?” I mind linked.

“Ahem, so where was it again? the pack ypu came from?” he asked.

“Dark Moon” we said in unison.

“Me too, must be fate.”

“No way! how come we never ran into you before this.” -Opal

“It’s a shame, I was out training in another country.”

“Are you staying here for good now?”

“Permanently? yes, I’m moving to Avalon after the Celestial Celebrations.”

“Then I guess we’ll be meeting each other a lot! That’s where me and Em study too. Right Em?” Opal had the brightest smile. I just nodded and they chatted away seemingly in their own little bubble.

They talked a lot for a few more minutes, Opal kept trying to get me to join in but it was obvious Castiel wanted to talk to her more so I just gave small comments from the side but mostly just listening. I was texting Daliah and Taira just for the sake of not being awkward. They were already aware we were with someone else. Pei arrived with his boyfriend a little while back.

Turns out, Castiel was moving back to our pack after years of training, which means he is probably a pack warrior like Ruby and under my Dad. He’s also transferring to Avalon Academy, the school where me and the others are studying at. Not that it’s really surprising since there aren’t a lot of schools to move in to.

Avalon was just a portal away from the pack like here in Avalon District. Its a joint academy for every race. It’s where Opal and I met Kai, Tai, Pei, and Daliah. An esper, elemental, shape-shifter demon, and fairy. An odd combination if you ask me but we get along pretty well.

“My dad and sister are also warriors, Emerald also wants to be one. Right?” -Opal

“Huh? Oh yeah. I’ll start training next month.” -Me

“You don’t want to be a warrior?” -Castiel

“Huh? Oh no. I wanna be a doctor like mom.” -Opal

He was really into Opal, for sure. This has been going on for a while and I no longer see a reason for me to be here.

“You’ll be training together starting next month! Isn’t that exciting? Emerald is really good with combat even though she never really trained before, she learns fast just from watching Ruby.”

“I see.”

Again, I could see Opal trying her best to not leave me out. That made me chuckle a bit, she was really sweet but it made me feel bad. I guess there’s no use in tagging along anymore and I’m not in the mood. I stood up which made both of them look at me.

“Pei just arrived, I’ll go greet him.”

Lousy excuse.

“Huh? but—“ -Opal

“You guys keep talking I’ll be at the other table. It was nice meeting you Castiel, guess I’ll be seeing you around?”

“Yes, for sure.” he half smiled but his dimples where on show which made me kinda regret saying I’d leave.

“Wha-but! your leaving me?” -Opal, now with a frown.

“Don’t worry about it! I’m sure Castiel would be great company.” I patted her head and walked away in a hurry.

My mind wanted to turn back and listen to them talk a bit more. But I just couldn’t bring myself to. Both of them were having alot of fun and I know Opal wants me to have some too. We did everything together, she was dependent on me most of the time but that didn’t mean we had to do ‘everything’ together. Besides, hows she gonna score a date if she was always with me. He obviously had the hots for her. A shame he didn’t feel the same way for me. I shouldn’t bother myself too much with such depressing thoughts there’s a lot of other wolves out there, plus I have a mate. He must be Opal’s.

Pei waved at me from the table, his boyfriend’s arm draped around his shoulder. Zion, he was a warewolf, they’re probably mates but they never really talked about it. Must be because Pei wasn’t one.

“Oh my Goddess! tell me the deets! where’s the guy? wait, where’s Opal?” -Daliah

“Their hitting it off over there at the back, must be her mate.”

“What no way!” -Daliah

I sat back down on my seat while Pei and Zion occupied the setas beside Kai where Opal was at. Daliah was blabbering all excited I almost couldn’t understand.

Kai and Zion gave me weird looks from across the table so I raised my brow at them.

“What? spit it out.” I mind linked them both.

“You like him don’t you?” - Kai

“I thought twins had the same mate? or am I wrong?” -Zion

“I don’t and your wrong.” I said a loud.

“Huh what?” -Daliah

“Nothing.”

She looked at me weird. Great now I’m really annoyed. I wanna move to another shop or whatever just to get away drom Castiel and Opal but at the same time I don’t want to.

“Don’t stress over it too much, We’re supposed to be on break.” -Taira while she was sipping her drink. I took a spoonfull of cake because of what she said. She was right. I gave her a look that said she was right and nodded to get my point.

“Yeah, who cares about them anyway.”

I froze realising I thought that out loud.

Daliah burst out laughing, Taira snorted, Kai gave me a sympathetic look, while Pei tried hard not to laugh - he was failling miserably by the way, Zion was just poker faced.

Great now I blushed twice.

I grunted despite that and continued to eat.

“Why not talk with him too?” Pei suggested.

“He doesn’t seem like he wants to.”

“Maybe it’s because you frown a lot that he got the wrong idea, plus you were texting us!” -Daliah

“Because it was awkward!”

“Excuses! who wouldn’t wanna talk to you? warewolves are all hot and gorgeous! and it’s not like you look any different from Opal you’re identical!”

“Calm down Daliah, you’re about to burst.” Pei teased.

“If imma see maself a man that hot, aint no atmosphere gon be stoppin me.” -Daliah

You’ll know she wasn’t calm anymore from her accent. That made Pei laugh which made Zion smile at him. I rolled my eyes at that. Tai and Kai were still holding hands which added fuel to the fire.

Seriously give me a break.
