Episode 17: The Fallen Alpha

1148 Words
Kael Draven’s POV Pain has a strange way of revealing the truth. When you are powerful, people surround you. They praise your strength. They follow your commands. They call you a great Alpha. But when everything falls apart... When your kingdom burns... When your title means nothing... You finally discover who you truly are. And I discovered something I never wanted to admit. Without Aria... Without the woman, I pushed away... I was never as strong as I believed. The first thing I heard was fire. The second thing I felt was blood. The third thing I realized was that my pack was falling. The Silver Moon territory, once considered one of the strongest kingdoms among the wolves, had become a battlefield. The Shadow Realm did not attack with armies. They attacked with darkness. They knew exactly where to strike. They knew our weaknesses. And they knew mine. "Alpha!" Rylan's voice pulled me back. I turned. My warriors were fighting desperately. Many were wounded. Many were afraid. The same warriors who once believed I could protect them now looked at me with uncertainty. And for the first time... I understood how Lucian must have felt. A king carrying impossible expectations. A leader forced to remained strong even when he was breaking. "Where is Seraphina?" I asked. Rylan hesitated. That hesitation made my heart tighten. "Answer me." "She left the castle before the attack." I froze. "She left?" He lowered his head. "Yes." The woman I protected. The woman I chose over my mate. The woman I believed needed me... was gone. A bitter laugh escaped me. The irony was painful. I abandoned the person who stayed. And protected the person who left. I finally understood. Aria never wanted my power. She never wanted my crown. She never wanted to control my life. She only wanted me to choose her. And I couldn't do the simplest thing. Flashback — Aria’s Last Night in the Silver Moon Pack "I don't hate you." Her voice was quiet. I looked at her. That hurt more than anger. Because hatred meant she still cared enough to fight. But she was tired. "I just don't recognize myself anymore." Those words haunted me. "Aria..." She looked at me. "I used to wake up wondering how to make you happy." A tear fell. "Now I wake up wondering why I was never enough." I wanted to answer. I wanted to tell her she was enough. But the truth was... My actions had already been answered. Present Day The castle shook. A dark creature entered the battlefield. Not a normal Shadow Realm monster. Something stronger. Something sent specifically for me. A shadow warrior. Its eyes glowed red. "You are the Alpha who abandoned the Blessed Luna." The words froze me. The creature laughed. "Interesting." It circled me. "The strongest wolf lost the only person who could have saved him." My claws extended. "Enough." But the words hurt because they were true. Aria Valen’s POV When the messenger told us Kael was missing... I felt something I did not expect. Fear. Not love. Not longing. Fear. Because no matter what happened between us... He was once someone important to me. He was my family. My first love. The person I thought I would spend my life with. And even broken hearts remember. Lucian watched me carefully. "You do not have to go." I looked at him. "I know." "Then why are you thinking about it?" I remained silent. Because I didn't know how to explain it. I didn't want Kael back. I didn't want to return to the past. But I also didn't want him to die. Because forgiveness does not mean forgetting. And healing did not mean becoming cruel. "I will go." Lucian's expression changed slightly. "I expected that." "You are not angry?" He shook his head. "No." A pause. "Because that is who you are." His words surprised me. "You still care even after someone hurts you." He looked at me. "That is not weakness, Aria." Lucian’s POV Part of me hated that she had to go. Not because of Kael. Because I knew what it meant. Facing the past was painful. Sometimes leaving was easier than returning. But Aria was not running anymore. She was confronting everything that shaped her. And I would support her. Even when it hurt. The Fallen Pack When we arrived at the Silver Moon territory, I barely recognized it. The beautiful kingdom I once called home was destroyed. The place where I spent years trying to belong. The place where I learned what rejection felt like. Now it was broken. Just like I once was. "Aria." I turned. Kael stood among the ruins. Alive. But different. The powerful Alpha I remembered was gone. In his place was a man carrying regret. A man who finally understood. For a moment... We only stared at each other. Then he lowered his head. The Alpha bowed. Not to the Blessed Luna. Not to her power. To me. "You're alive." My voice was quiet. A painful smile appeared. "Disappointed?" I looked at him. "No." The honesty surprised both of us. Kael’s POV She was different. Not because of her power. Not because of the title everyone gave her. Because she no longer needed my approval. Before, her eyes searched for mine. Waiting. Hoping. Begging me to choose her. Now... She looked at me with peace. And I realized the greatest punishment was not losing her. It was seeing that she was finally happy without me. "I am sorry." Two words. Two words I should have said long ago. Aria looked away. "I know." I swallowed. "I know I don't deserve forgiveness." "No." She looked at me. "You don't." The honesty hurt. But I accepted it. "But..." She continued. "That doesn't mean I want you to suffer forever." The Attack Returns Before I could respond, the ground shook. Lucian immediately stepped forward. The Shadow Realm had followed us. A dark figure appeared above the ruins. Cassian. Again. But this time... He was not alone. Behind him stood thousands of shadow creatures. "This ends tonight." His eyes focused on Aria. "The Blessed Luna comes with me." Lucian's wolf awakened instantly. "No." The single word carried enough power to shake the battlefield. Aria’s POV I stepped forward. Everyone looked at me. Lucian immediately reached for my hand. Not to stop me. To remind me he was there. I faced Cassian. "You came for my power." He smiled. "Yes." I shook my head. "You still don't understand." His expression changed. "My power does not belong to anyone." The silver mark on my skin glowed. "Not the kingdoms." "Not the Shadow Realm." "Not fate." I looked at Lucian. "And not even destiny." The battlefield became silent. Because everyone understood. The Blessed Luna was chosen. Not because of a prophecy. Not because of a bond. Because of her own heart.
