Chapter 4: Start of ruin

The rain started as a drizzle but by midnight, it was pouring heavily, i could hear it from the roof, keeping me awake. I was in bed, but my hand still felt like it was burning from when Jason touched it in the car, every time tried shutting my eyes, I just saw his chiselled face and the way he always looked so sure of himself. I felt like I was losing myself by going behind my own sister's back.
I couldn't stay still, so I threw the covers off and went out to the hall. The house was quiet except for the storm outside. I went to the kitchen because I just needed a glass of water to get rid of this guilty taste in my mouth. I didn't turn on the lights because I didn't want to see myself in the windows.
I was walking across the floor when I saw a shadow move by the back doors, it made me jump almost screaming. "It’s just me," Jason said in a low voice. He was standing by the door, and the lightning outside made him look dark, he had clothes on, but his shirt was open a bit. was watching the rain, and he had a glass of something dark in his hand.
"You should be in bed," I whispered my voice lower than intended. " Molly's right upstairs."
"Molly sleeps like a log," Jason said, turning to me the lightning showing his face for a second, he looked tired, sad, and too good looking." I don't think I can stand being in that room right now, not while she's dreaming about getting married."
"Don't say that, you have to do it, you have to keep your promise."
Jason placed the glass down and walked toward me his steps calculated, the floor didn't even make a noise as he moved closer, he got right up in my face, and I felt like I couldn't breathe.
"Promises are just what you say when you’re scared," he said almost touching me, but then he stopped and made a fist." The truth is, Moraine, I’ve been thinking about what it would be like to mess things up with you for the last two days."
"Why me?" I asked. "She’s perfect, she’s got everything, why would you do this?"
"Because you're not perfect," he said, his voice low, " but you're real, you’re scared, and you really are nervous around me and honestly, i want to see more of that."
He got closer, and I ended up against the fridge, he placee his hands on the wall on either side of my head, so I couldn't move, I could smell whiskey on him.
"Tell me to leave," he said, looking right at me. "Tell me you don't feel something when I'm around and that you didn't want me to kiss you outside."
"I...I can't," I whispered.
"Then stop lying to yourself."
Then he kissed me hard, it wasn't soft, it was rough, like we were fighting. It was desperate, as if we were both mad about everything. I should have pushed him away, but I placed my hands in his hair and pulled him closer,I knew it was wrong, but at that very moment, I didn't care about anything. Then, we heard footsteps of someone on the stairs, we jumped apart, Jason went to the sink and splashed water on his face, and I just stood there, trying to calm down.
"Moraine, Jason..."
Molly was standing there, rubbing her eyes, her hair was messed up, she had her robe on.
"Is everything okay? " she asked sounding sleepy." I heard you talking."
"Just getting a drink, Jason said calmly," he looked at her and smiled." I couldn't sleep with the noise."
" Moraine was just going back to bed."
Molly looked at me like she was worried," you okay, Rainey? You look like someone who has seen a ghost."
"I'm fine," I said, but it didn't sound like me. "Just...the lightning woke me up."
"Come back to bed," Molly said, holding out her hand for Jason. "The storm is getting worse."
"In a bit, " Jason said. "Go on, i will be there soon."
Molly nodded and went back to bed, Jason didn't look at me, he drank the rest of his drink and walked past me. He didn't have to say anything since the bad thing had already happened. I stood in the kitchen for a long time after the house was dead silent again. I could still taste him, I looked at the stairs and then at the door.
I knew it was too late to fix things, everything was already ruined.
