I was hiding behind one of the pillars when I heard his footsteps on the stair.

“Morning!” I scared the s**t out of him. It’s the reaction for me, I’ll never get enough of this. His reaction is the best thing someone can see. I hardly hears what he says coz I was laughing as loud as I could. ‘’sorry ‘’I finally apologize. He kissed me before he drove out. For sure he has made my day, am just happy I found him here when I came back from school.

I head back to the house and no one is up yet, I take a shower and start preparing breakfast. My little siz is the one who wakes up first then my mum follows.

Mum: ‘’morning sweetheart? Is breakfast ready’’

Me: ‘’almost mum some five minutes’’ She heads to the washroom and Joan is brushing her teeth. After like 10 mins am done and set the table.

At 9 o’clock we are all seated on the dining table having breakfast. Mum, Joan and I are having some random talks then I decide to poke he. “mum, can I ask a question? Can you tell us what is happening between you and Dad?”

Mum:” since you brought up the topic I guess I have no option other than talking about it.”

She says when shes very uncomfortable, she even stops eating her breakfast, then she continues.

“You know I love you my children and I don’t want anything bad to happen to you…”. At that point I just realize this is about to go very south but I choose to keep quiet. “… we were planning to say this to you when are together, your dad and I, we are planning to get a divorce. Your dad will be coming home tomorrow.”

Me (Brenda): “mum why now after all that time, you discovered he had another wife six months ago and you have been married to him for twenty years why now” I said tears rolling down. I love my dad though I know he messed up.

Joan looks at us as if she does not know whats happening but I can see shes hurting inside. My mum moves her char in between us and she gives us a hug then she continues.

“My daughter hope you will understand my decision, I waited for the six months because I wanted you to be home when everything is happening, I care about your feelings I love you both of my daughters”

“we love you to mum” we replied in unison “its ok mum you don’t have to worry about us” I added with a strong tone but saying the truth it was hard.

Its 3 o’clock and am still in a folly mood since mum told us about her divorce with my dad, I decide to call jimmy. It hits me that I was to call him yesterday but I didn’t, I dial his no but it doesn’t go through so I live him a message. I then decide to call mike hes not yet back from school. Dialling his number, I can his phone ringing from outside. I peep through the window and I can see him opening their door.

“Hi beautiful” he answered.

“Hi to mike, how’s you?”

“Am good, I had a wonderful day, I was thinking about you all day, hope you had a good day to.”

“Not really, am not ok, my day was not that good”

My mum appears from the kitchen and I hang up before mike even replies.

Mum:” am going out to visit Diana, its been long since we saw each other and shes the only friend I have.”

Me:” At what time will you be back, should we prepare Saper when time comes?”

Mum:” I won’t take that long, today am the one to prepare super for you guys. I think by 6pm I’ll be back.”

Me:” say hi to Diana.” She then leaves and when I can hear her car exiting the apartments gate I grab my phone to call mike.

There are two texts from him ‘ hi dear what’s wrong, what happened?’ and the other one ‘ am in the house can I come over to see you’.

‘Yes please ’I replied to the second text.

MIKE

I just got home from school, Brenda called and said she wasnt ok and before she could tell me what was wrong she droped the call. I think its because of her mum I heard her talking before the call ended. I got in the house and texted her, she replied and said I should go an see her.

Heading to their house am shaking co I don’t know what to say to her mum. I know shes there I overheard her in the call. I guess ill figure out when I get there. I ring the door bell and Joan is the one who opens the door…….
