Oh, God! My heart was pounding like a racehorse while I was running down the hall toward the bank of elevators. I never even stopped to press a button though since they were always so slow. I pushed right through the big, heavy, metal door into the emergency stairwell.
While I was running down the stairs, the sound of my bare feet slapping against the concrete steps kept echoing up through the empty, cavernous space. Fortunately, I only had just one flight to go before I went bursting back out onto the second floor, hurtling toward the room I was sharing with Diane and Jake.
When I rounded a corner and almost ran right smack into someone, they giggled as I flew past them. That was when it dawned on me that I wasn’t…wearing any pants!
