Chapter 7Adam
When Steve handed his phone to me, I couldn’t figure out why he looked so scared again. I thought I’d proved by now that I wasn’t gonna hurt him. When I glanced down at his phone, I noticed from the corner of my eye that he was snatching up his tote bag and inching his way backward, toward the open doorway behind him.
After I saw the short, little message on his phone, my mouth fell wide open. It was only three words, in all caps, followed by three urgent question marks.
Are You Gay???
I was totally stunned for a few seconds, but then I just couldn’t help it. I burst out laughing. When I looked up, Steve was almost all the way out the door, and he looked shocked.
“Well…duh!” I snickered, still laughing. “What did you think?”
“Wh-wh-what?” he stammered.
“Yes, I’m gay,”
