Three: Old Immortal

1583 Words
In my life, I've never encountered sudden wealth. When I heard the woman say that if Old Lady Hu saved her husband, she would treat her like her own mother, I immediately felt that Old Lady Hu was about to escape poverty and transform into a wealthy old lady, reaching the pinnacle of her life with just one deal. However, at this moment, Old Lady Hu didn't rush to promise the woman anything. After pondering for a while, she asked me to fetch a bucket of stale water from the kitchen, saying it would be useful later. Old Lady Hu really didn't treat me as an outsider. But saving a life is like giving birth to a child, and my life was saved by her. Even if she asked me to take care of her for the rest of her life, it would be normal. While I was fetching the water, I heard Old Lady Hu telling the couple that the Pig Immortal would be coming soon and that they should be mentally prepared. If the entanglement was loose, everything could be easily discussed. But if it was tight, they would have to seek someone more skilled. In our Northeast, we collectively refer to animals that have cultivated as immortals, such as Pig Immortal, Rat Immortal, Yellow Immortal. This is a term of respect for those cultivated animals, but not all immortals are good ones, otherwise that Hu surnamed wouldn't have wanted to exterminate my entire family. The stale water in front of the stove was probably prepared by Old Lady Hu the night before. A full bucket of washing water, filled with rotten vegetable leaves and uneaten food, had already turned foul. Old Lady Hu couldn't possibly want that man to drink from this bucket of stale water, could she? Just looking at it was disgusting, let alone drinking it! But anyway, it wasn't me who had to drink it. I just had to do as Old Lady Hu instructed. When I brought the water to the east room, I heard Old Lady Hu sternly scolding the air, "You sow, why don't you properly cultivate your path to immortality and come out to harm people instead?!" After Old Lady Hu finished scolding, there was no response in the air. The beast that slept with me last night was also transformed from an animal. I wondered if this Pig Immortal would also transform into a human and swagger out like that beast. Just as I finished thinking, a gust of wind suddenly blew into the room. At first, the wind circled the entire room as if choosing someone. Then, it suddenly rushed towards me. In an instant, I felt dizzy and hungry, and the stale water I had just brought over seemed very fragrant to me. I plunged my face into it! At that moment, I was still conscious. When I saw myself uncontrollably burying my face into the bucket filled with rotten vegetables and leftover food, I panicked. Could it be that the Pig Immortal had possessed me? Just when I saw the disgusting bucket of stale water and was glad it wasn't me who had to eat it, I ended up hurting myself by lifting the stone. Fortunately, just as I was about to open my mouth and indulge in the stale water, Old Lady Hu quickly got off the kang bed, grabbed my collar, and pulled my dirty face out of the bucket. A slap from Old Lady Hu suddenly landed on my face. Her slap made me much more lucid, and I no longer wanted to drink the stale water. But in a moment, my eyes were filled with tears, and I walked towards the man sitting on the kang bed, speaking in a nasal voice, "Am I not beautiful? Why have you forgotten me? You even gave me a watch and said you would divorce your wife to make me your official wife." Seeing me approaching him, the man immediately panicked and hid behind his wife, but he also defiantly retorted, "That's because I didn't know you were an old sow. How could I marry a pig?!" Perhaps because she felt confident with Old Lady Hu present, the man's wife, although scared, also indignantly retorted, "First of all, even if you were human, my husband's achievements today are all thanks to my family's support. How could he possibly divorce me for you? Without me, he's nothing. I advise you not to delude yourself and try to climb up to my man and enjoy wealth and honor." Even the most beautiful women become ugly when fighting over a man; even the most noble men become despicable when they rely on women in weakness. However, the Pig Immortal in me was not an easy opponent. After the woman finished speaking, she no longer had the pitiful tone from before and suddenly became fierce, "We'll see about that!" With that, my body lightened, and the wind blew into the man's body. Suddenly, my face was full of stench, and the man started acting crazily, rolling off the kang and crawling like a pig towards the bucket of stale water. Because the man was quite fat, his posture while eating the stale water on the ground really resembled an old sow, making it very uncomfortable to watch. "You beast, how dare you come to my house and cause trouble! Let's see how I deal with you!" Seeing the Pig Immortal so rampant, Old Lady Hu immediately took a yellow talisman from the altar, muttered a few incantations, and pasted it onto the back of the man who was eating like a pig! Unexpectedly, the talisman stuck to the man's back for a moment and then fell off by itself. The man turned his greasy face towards Old Lady Hu and said, "Old pig's skin is thick, your talisman doesn't work on me! Besides, I've cultivated for three hundred years, you're no match for me. Today, I must seek justice, or I won't leave!" This statement immediately made the man's wife cry and beg Old Lady Hu to save her husband. I didn't know much about Old Lady Hu's abilities, and I wasn't sure what she could do. Now that this pig woman was making a scene in her house, it would be embarrassing for Old Lady Hu if she couldn't drive her away. Probably because the Pig Immortal was really difficult to deal with, Old Lady Hu thought for a moment and then pulled me outside, whispering to me, "Is Hu Er Ye awake? Ask him to help me with this." At this moment, Old Lady Hu's way of addressing that beast had changed. "He's already gone," I replied to Old Lady Hu. "Then you ask him to come back quickly. This pig demon is fierce, and I, this old woman, can't control her. You may not see it, but Hu Er Ye is the second most powerful person within hundreds of miles. He's very capable. As long as he comes, he doesn't even need to lift a finger. Just scolding that pig woman will scare her witless." Seeing Old Lady Hu boasting about that beast again, I was both angry and speechless. I asked her, "If you can't control her, why did you take this job?" "Didn't you hear that as long as I save that man, his wife will treat me like her own mother? This couple has a big background, people from the state, protected by righteous gods. Only an unruly pig-brained immortal would dare to provoke them. Now that I've finally met one, I, Old Lady Hu, have no sons or daughters. I at least need to prepare for my hundred years later." "But the beast is gone. How can I ask him to come back?" Although I didn't want to see that beast, I still wanted to help Old Lady Hu a bit. "Just use your name, and I'll do it." Old Lady Hu said, plucking a strand of hair from my head, then tying a knot with it in her palm and muttering some incantations. Although Old Lady Hu didn't seem very capable, her appearance while chanting incantations, with her cheeks bulging, really resembled an old wolf. After Old Lady Hu chanted for a while, I saw a huge red-furred wolf running towards us from afar, its mouth pointed and tail trailing. It leaped into Old Lady Hu's body, and she immediately straightened her back, her whole demeanor instantly changing. "I see you're looking for death. Don't think I'll be nice to you just because I slept with you. What's the rush in calling me over like this?!" After Old Lady Hu straightened up, she immediately scolded me. This really made me feel like I was being tricked by Old Lady Hu. If I wasn't being possessed by a pig and slapped for drinking stale water, I was being scolded by this beast. "You think I'm eager to find you? It's Old Lady Hu who's looking for you. She wants to ask for your help. There's a Pig Immortal who's made herself at home in her house and can't be driven away." Hearing me say I wasn't eager to find him, Old Lady Hu's dissatisfied expression almost erupted again. But after glancing into the room, she strode in, saw the man rolling around on the ground, and without a word, kicked his protruding buttocks hard. She also cursed, "Where did this beast come from? Get lost!"
