Kai’s POV:
My heart felt like it broke into a million pieces as I left Maverick's apartment.
"Geezer!" I cursed while walking and slamming the door. I could not still believe my eyes.
How could they do that to me? I never wanted to see any of them again. My best friend was sleeping with my boyfriend, that lying slut! All I had ever done was love her, yet she stabbed me in the back.
I didn't feel well just thinking about it, so I took a taxi and got in.
"Where to, ma'am?" asked the driver.
Anywhere but here," I replied, and he nodded as if to say he knew exactly how I felt. I didn't know where he was driving, nor did I particularly care, just so long as I would never have to see Maverick or Isabelle again.
I sat at the back of the taxi as it drove past buildings in town, but through my mind flashed these same images, memories, and all the tears and laughs-which were now based upon a lie I just wanted to remain blind to the fact that Maverick was cheating on me.
Finally, the taxi stopped, and I paid the driver. I stood before the club. The day had gotten darker, so I went inside with no care. I did not know why I chose this place, but it felt right.
I queued and showed the bouncer my ID before getting in. People danced to the loud pop music under the changing lights. I went towards the bar, ordering a shot of tequila the moment I sat. Taking it in one gulp as my throat burned, but I loved it.
Ordering more shots, I stopped counting, knowing it was an attempt to get my sorrows drowned. The alcohol burning my throat stung.
I turned behind my shoulder and noticed a weird man staring at me. He was sleazy, leer on his face, and didn't look like he could take a hint to leave, so I ignored him.
He sidled up, his shoulder against mine, before sitting beside me. "Hey, beautiful," he said. "What's a pretty girl like you doing all alone?"
I looked at him in anger, my face twitching in disgust. "Please don't touch me," I said in anger, slapping his hand away.
He chuckled and continued to speak to me even when I didn't want him to. He attempted to hold my hand, but I moved before he could touch me. I was starting to get scared.
“Don't you ever hear, no?” I asked, searching for security with my eyes.
“Not from a lovely girl like you,” he answered.
“Buzz off,” I warned and he suddenly held my waist as I struggled. Suddenly, someone punched him, making him stumble backward and fall to the floor.
He held his nose, and I noticed the blood when he moved his hands, groaning. I turned slowly to see the most attractive-looking man I had ever seen with piercing blue eyes standing in front of me, looking dangerously straight at the man on the floor.
“Get lost,” he growled.
The vulgar man cleaned the blood off his nose, lifting his eyes with a look of terror at the man who had punched him.
“She told you to buzz off. Now, do it,” the handsome man warned. His voice was intimidating and I shook with calm excitement. I watched the other man stand and walk away.
The gorgeous man locked eyes with me and asked. “Are you okay?”
I blinked, breathless and fought internally to find my voice. “Y…yeah, thanks to you,” I said, smiling stupidly.
He returned the smile with a light spark in his eyes, and I didn't want him to leave. My heart danced when he asked. “Do you mind if I join you?”
“No,” I replied. “Not at all.”
He sat beside me and ordered a cocktail for me and some whiskey for himself. We discussed for hours, laughing like we had been friends our entire lives.
The longer the evening progressed, the more I felt a pull towards him. He was charming, funny and good-looking. And he seemed to be interested in me too.
We danced, pressed against each other. My body shivered when he held my waist. When the music began to play slowly, he moved his hand down my waist and we kissed.
I smiled and went for another kiss when he broke the first, and before long, our legs and arms were still wrapped around each other. I found myself deliberately entering some sort of paradise that I never wanted to leave behind.
“Do you wanna go somewhere?” I whispered while holding him and he smiled. The music suddenly became a dance jam, and he placed some money on the counter and led me out, holding my hand as I giggled.
We kissed the moment we were in his hotel room and I became needy. His touch was gentle and he traced every part of my skin with his lips. I moaned, moving in sync with him as he thrust took me to ecstasy.
His soft lips kissed my collarbone and I felt like it would never end. My legs pulled him closer as he moved. I felt whole happy as he took all of me.
I lay cuddling him when we were done, falling onto the bed and catching our breath with my head on his warm, hard chest. I hadn't felt this good in a long time and I cherished it. His hand moved gently on my hair.
He gazed down at me as I smiled at him and he carried me to the bathroom. He helped me shower, and I couldn't help but wonder if I had made a bad choice to ever be with my ex. He was never this caring.
“This is too much for a stranger, right?” I asked myself silently.
“Especially one you had s*x with. He's so gentle,” my mind continued.
I looked up to meet his gaze as he helped me wash up and I didn't fight my feelings anymore. I might regret it tomorrow but I was going for it for now. I moved forward and kissed him. He responded, kissing my warm lips as his hands stroked my hair.
