Alex and Nina entered the grand Moreno Estate there was no mistaking its presence. The high ceilings and expensive furniture made Nina feel even more insignificant, as though her surroundings were literally shoving her away. She looked at Alex, for encouragement but his face was hard and distant.
As they stepped into the living room, Fiona was already there. Her leg crossed out on a luxurious velvet couch like she'd dropped by to relax countless times before. When she saw them, a wicked grin played at the corner of her mouth. Her gaze flicked between Nina and Alex, until finally it rested on Alex and then lingered on each feature of his face, which made Nina nausea.
”Well, well, well… look who we have here.” She said sarcastically as she dismissed the sight of Nina then focused on Alex. “How was your big day?” She said as she adjusted his tie.
Nina starred at the both of them as they exchanged pleasantries, like some long lost lovers who had just found themselves. She stood like a lifeless being, like she didn’t even matter but what bothered her was who Fiona was to Alex. Who was she to him? She thought to herself trying to ignore the thought of them been lovers.
Fiona’s presence made him feel at ease, he hadn’t even talked to her like a husband should. He gave none of his attention to her, he was all about Fiona, she thought.
Fiona smile widened as she turned her eyes back to Nina. She sniffed with a hint of mockery, and then folded her arms. “ Mrs Moreno, how are you? You must be over the moon right." She said as she gave Nina a cold glance.
“You look... tired. Why don’t you get some rest, Gina….” She called out, as a young lady came in, bowing with respect.
“Yes ma’am” She said as she maintained the respect.
“Could you please take her to the guest room” She said as she pointed to Nina, who looked back at her with a widened eye. ‘The guest room’, she echoed.
She wanted to talk but her mouth won’t give in. She eyed at Alex for a rescue, but he didn’t even look at her for once.
“Sure, Nina,” Alex added with none of the warmth his voice had held before. “Why don’t you just… go take a... rest. Fiona and I need to talk.”
It was a slap on her face, and it stung Nina to her soul. She froze for a moment, taking one long breath to steady herself before turning to go. She looked at Alex for the last time before she followed Gina.
The moment Nina was out of sight, Fiona took a step closer to Alex and her fingers gripped on his arm. "Boring bitch." She snarled regressively. “Do you really think your family will keep a girl like her around?”
Alex made a sound that might have been an expressionless laugh. “Not my issue,” he said dispassionately. “I did what was needed. Now, I’m done with it.”
Fiona smiled, contented with his answer. She purred, coming a step closer. “Good…. Now, how about we take this somewhere a little more… private?”
Alex nodded without hesitation. “Yes baby, I have been longing for you all day”. He said and carried her to his room.
*************
Nina was sitting in the guest room on one end of her bed, her fingers all tangled together within each other. Although the room was exquisitely decorated, luxorious furnitures and lamps projected on the center table, but it was no different from the one in her house.
It was really a crushing day, and she held back her sobs. She had never felt so alone. She missed her mum so much.
A soft tap on the door made her shiver. She was about to answer when the door opened slowly, and in came a Gina carrying food on a tray. Nina was too stressed out that she had forgotten about food. Maybe Alex had asked her to bring it, she thought.
“Mrs Moreno,” Gina said softly, placing the food on the small table next to bed. “I figured you might be starving. It’s been a long day.”
Nina stared at the tray She felt disappointed. She had expected it to be Alex, who worried about her. Which might have given her hope, but it was just his made that cared. She thought helding back her tears. “Thanks,” she whispered, almost too quiet to hear.
The maid smiled kindly at her “Just let me know if you need anything okay.”
She nodded and as the made was about to leave, she stopped her. “Where is my husband” She asked searching the maids eyes for answers.
“Well, hmm…. He… hmm, he… is…. In his father’s apartment, two flat away from here. You know the Morenos live in the same estate. They don’t want to break their families bond.” She lied.
Nina still unsatisfied asked. “Who is that lady”
“Who… Oh! You mean Miss Fiona. She is the boss’s friend” Gina replied. She knew everything about Fiona and Alex but she didn’t want to be the one to spill the beans.
Nina nodded, she still wasn’t satisfied.
Gina patted her shoulder.”Always remember this, I will always be there for you” She said and left leaving Nina with a glare of hope. She felt less alone with that one act of gift given by the maid.

The morning sun streamed through the curtains, casting a soft glow over the room where Alex and Fiona lay together under the covers. The night had been a escape from the pressures of the day before, and now, in the quiet of the morning, there was a strange sense of peace between them.
Fiona was the first to wake up, she stretched her hands lazily before turning her now satisfied smile on Alex, ”Good morning, baby” she yawned, her fingers dancing light on his chest.
Alex opened his eyes and looked down at her with a half-smile. “Morning,” he said the sleep still coating his throat. The feel of her against his skin was something he had not even known he longed for until now.
Fiona raised her head up on one elbow and gave him a level look with those dark eyes. “Alex,” she said, her voice soft but still firm “I need you to promise me. ”
He raised an eyebrow interested. “What’s that?”
“Promise me you will never leave me alone” she whispered. “Whatever comes, I want you to be with me”
Alex thought for a moment before finally nodding, drawing her wobbly form back against him. “I’m not going anywhere. I am yours forever.”

Nina, still dressed in her simple nightgown, hesitated outside Alex's room. She had barely slept, stressed by the events of the previous night. Summoning her courage, she pushed the door open slightly, hoping to find some connection with her new husband.
But the sight that met her eyes froze her instead. Alex and Fiona were lying in bed together, their bodies colliding, lost in a moment of intimacy that Nina had never shared with him.
Nina’s breath caught in her throat, a wave of disbelief washing over her as Alex suddenly turned his head, his eyes locking onto hers.
