Derrick’s POV
Arabelle lay in the back seat Ian Langrove’s car while I rode in the front with him, she was still unconscious, I looked back at her one more time, she looked very peaceful in her state of unconsciousness,
“She is okay, she is just asleep” Langrove said, his face was grim and his attention was focused solely on the road,
I turned to look at him “I didn’t peg you for a witch” I said,
He scoffed and remained quiet,
“Well thanks for saving me back there, I really appreciate it” I said,
“Make no mistakes Richard, if she was thinking straight and she decided that was she wanted, I would have gladly sat back and watched as she did it” he said and I could hear the underlying anger in his voice, the fact that he called me Richard so casually was unnerving,
“Who are you?” I asked,
the fact that he called me Richard meant that he knew who I was and he obviously knew about my past with Arabelle but I had no idea who he was and it was shocking that he was a witch just like Arabelle,
“I don’t think I owe you any explanations” Langrove said,
“I think you do, you call me a name I used in another lifetime, you call her by Arabelle and you seem to know the fact that she is a witch and I see the way you care for her and then this obvious anger that you harbour toward me for a reason I don’t know” I said,
He remained quiet for a while then he said “What reason do you think I could possibly have for harbouring anger towards you?”
“I know of only one, and the fact that you are aware of that reason is reason enough for me to ask you questions, I don’t recognize from the past so even for that reason alone, you owe me an explanation” I said,
He chuckled but there was no humour in it, only bitterness “Has anyone told you just how arrogant you are?”
I shrugged my shoulders and relaxed into the chair “I am sorry you think that way of me, I never knew I was that way, it’s just how I have been all my life” I said,
“Well its overly annoying and sickening, if you weren’t so arrogant then perhaps, I will not find as annoying as I do now” Langrove said, there was dry humour in his voice,
A small smile crossed my lips and I said “You might think so badly of me if you get to know me but I am not making any promises, I have been told I am quite a jerk”
This time around, he actually chuckled and it sounded genuine “I agree with that theory completely” he said,
I smiled and we remained quiet, Arabelle a sound from behind us, it was like she was trying to wake up, I turned around to look at her, her face clearly showed discomfort, like she was in pain or something,
I heard Langrove muttering a few inaudible words beside me, I turned to look at him, his eyes were glowing a dull green, after a few seconds, the glow dimmed until there was no trace of light left in his eyes and the sound of the discomfort from Arabelle stopped as well, I looked back at her and the lines of discomfort were gone and she was sleeping peacefully once again,
“She will wake up with the mother of all headaches, it will be like she got drunk on very strong wine, I can only try to lessen the pain a little” Langrove said,
“You seem to know a lot about this” I said,
“Yep because I have gone through it before” he said, there was a darkness to his voice when he said this,
“Look I can claim that I am not curious about the relationship between Arabelle and you but I will just be telling you a big lie, so please just tell me what it is” I said,
A small smile crossed his face then he said “She is my sister”
I had read the reports on Arabelle and there had been no mention of a brother, it had said she was an only child,
“Umm brother?” I said,
He laughed “Yes brother” He said and remained quiet,
“Care to add some explanation on that” I said,
He shrugged and remained quiet,
This guy was one cocky son of a b***h, he was beginning to ride my last nerve “What’s your problem man?” I said with exasperation in my voice,
“The problem is I don’t like you and I will do what it takes for you to pay for what you did to Arabelle” Langrove said, his voice rose just a little and his face hardened a little,
“Did Arabelle tell you about what happened in the past?” I asked, my voice was low, I felt a little pang of jealousy, if Arabelle told him that, it meant she really trusted him, that used to be the position I occupied in her life, she told me everything and anything and she trusted me more than any other person on the face of this earth,
“She didn’t need to tell me, I saw it with my own eyes, I wasn’t there on that day but I somehow ended up seeing and knowing about it, when I had called her my sister, I was messing with you, Arabelle and I have the same mother, not her mother from this life but the mother from the past, so we share a connection, is that enough to satisfy your curiosity, if it isn’t, I don’t care because we have arrived at your place, so you can leave now” Langrove said,
I looked out the window and we were parked in front of my house, everything he said only brought up a lot of questions but I knew he wouldn’t say anything to me again, besides, I didn’t want Arabelle anywhere close to this house after all, it inhabited a mad witch with a murderous intent towards Arabelle,
I got out of the car and looked at the sleeping figure of Arabelle in the backseat, I leaned towards the front window,
“Keep her safe” I said to Langrove,
“You are in no position to tell me that Richard Blackwood” Langrove said and drove away in his car,
I watched the car as it drove away before finally walking into the house thinking about what a strange night it had been.
