JASMINE
An open marriage? Is our union so insignificant to him that he would suggest such a thing? And the nerve to tell me that I can have a man of my own if I want? Is that how worthless and cheap I am to him? Does he really think I’m some w***e like his dear mate addressed me?
I slam the door to my car shut as I drive to the pack training ground the next morning, clutching the steering tight, my knuckles burning red from the rage inside me.
How dare he?
If it was within my power, I would divorce him immediately. How did he even think that’s possible, that I would let another man bed me when I have a husband?
I’m so disappointed in him. If he wanted to keep his mate, I wasn’t going to stop him, not like I had the power to but to suggest such is spitting on my face and mocking my dignity.
I push the door to the training ground open and no one notices me, everyone is so engrossed, sparring with their various partners.
I don’t know if the rules and training regimen have changed since I left but last I remember, every member of the nightshade pack above the age of fifteen is expected to train with the only exception being omegas and pregnant werewolves.
Trainees are usually grouped into four ranks. For those below the age of eighteen, who haven’t gotten their wolves yet, they’re called the lower rank and you can tell them by the grey bands they have to wear on their wrist.
The next group is called the Mid Rank, warriors who just got their wolves and they have green bands to identify themselves.
The following rank is the upper rank, this is the group where most of the pack warriors are, where every low and mid rank aspire to be, they are battle hardened warriors and they wear a red band.
For the last group, the Elite rank, they don’t wear bands and they are often not in the pack but off to secret missions for the pack and becoming an elite ranked warrior is bestowed upon a person by the Alpha for their service and dedication to the pack or an extraordinary act of valour.
My father was an elite ranked warrior before he died, an honor he got for saving the Alpha’s life plus no one had ever defeated him in personal combat, not even the Alpha himself.
I step toward the group, admiring how fluid yet lethal their strikes look. Whoever is the new head warrior is doing a great—
My heart pounds off its own accord and I freeze when I see Alec barking orders to a group at the far end of the hall. His wolf must have sensed me because his eyes immediately snap to me.
Our eyes meet and I quickly look away, thinking of leaving the training ground altogether. After the stunt his brother pulled last night, he’s the last person I want to deal with.
I came here to clear my head, not to get it more battered.
“Hey Everyone! Look who’s here, it’s the Luna. Pay your respects,” Alec’s voice echoes over the hall as he walks up to me, taking the lead to bare his neck to me and everyone else follows.
I stylishly steal a glance at him as I wave at the others. He’s wearing a pair of joggers and an oversized tank top, sweaty all over but still as sexy as ever.
If only he looked at me with half the adoration that Andre looked at Lexi with, maybe I’d consider giving my dignity a stab and allow him to be my side man.
I feel filthy at the thought but If Andre can be with his mate, then so can I but unfortunately, my mate cannot even stand me.
“So what brings you here Luna, come to watch?” he says in a casual voice, smiling at me and as much as I try to, I can’t hide my surprise.
I didn’t even know that he’s capable of smiling and it’s so freaking beautiful….I clench my teeth and my toes curl.
What was the goddess thinking when she made such a fine man?
Everything about him is just so perfect or is this the mate bond messing with me? I have to control myself.
“Hey!” Alec snaps his fingers and immediately, one of the lower ranked warriors runs forward with a chair for me to sit.
“I’m not here to watch,” I reply with a frown, recovering from my little trip. “I didn’t know the nightshade training ground was now an entertainment hub. I thought people came here to fight.”
Alec scoffs and then smirks, “well then, step up and show us what you’ve got,” he points to a mid ranked warrior, “don’t go easy on her, she’s not here to be entertained,” a sinister smirk splays his lips as he directs me to the middle of the hall.
He’s underestimating me and he has every reason to do so. I wasn’t exactly the best fighter before I left for the Luna academy but all of that has changed now and I’ll teach him to respect me.
“If I just wanted to sweat, I would have gone for a run, give me your best warrior, he’ll be a little challenge,” I mirror his smirk, my heart pounding.
I don’t know if I can take the best fighter on but I’m confident in my abilities, I should be able to give him a run for his money. I was trained at the Luna academy by six different elite level warriors.
“You sure about that?” Alec smirks.
“Why are we still talking?” I ball my fists.
“Well I’m the best here— Luna, still think I’m a little challenge?” He replies, slowly taking off his tank top and tossing it to the floor.
Some ladies giggle at the sight of his dangerously sexy and panty dropping, ripped abs and torso and my wolf growls possessively over our mate in my head.
She almost makes me laugh.
I keep my eyes on his face, knowing if I look down, I won’t be able to look away.
I wonder if his wolf finds me as attractive as me and my wolf finds him or if his loathing of me is a feeling they both share.
A tinge of sadness rocks me at the thought, my face falls and my confidence slips.
“Since you can’t answer, I’ll give you a little challenge of mine,” he cracks his knuckles, his eyes holding a dangerous look in them, “If you can successfully pin me even once, I’ll grant you any one wish of yours but if you can’t, I get to make one wish that you must grant, deal?”
Any wish of mine…….
My heart pounds, a million things I can ask of him pouring into my mind at once.
