Ella's Point Of View
My heart kept beating faster than normal as I waited for Kenny to vacate the car and march into the house.
He usually doesn't wait in the car for too long. But today, he decided to act differently.
He's spending more time inside the car than ever before.
More like he knew something had gone wrong, and he's hell-bent on finding out what the problem is.
While I took cover in the garden, I didn't stop scanning my surroundings just to avoid being caught.
I don't trust Isla one bit. It's not a rumor that she detests me and everything that I represent.
She would rather feed a snake than save me from starving to death. That shows the level of resentment she has towards me.
And in recent times, she has made my life miserable in this mansion.
Not a day passes by without me wishing not to cross paths with her, knowing that it would definitely end in premium tears.
I won't be surprised to find out that she's stalking me to know my next move, and probably alert Kenny of my next move.
“Finally! He's out,” I exclaimed when I saw Kenny stepping out of his car.
This means a lot to me. This just solved 40 percent of my problems.
Took him a while to get it done, but the wait was worth it. It's better than sitting back inside the car to unsettle my blood pressure.
Then he paused to stare at his garage like he had found something or someone. My worst fear is about to hit me hard like a time bomb.
I'm pretty sure he is guessing something is fishy somewhere, but he can't figure out where the difficulty is.
I went into hiding immediately, should he decide to shift his focus to that garden.
I know Kenny so well. His level of discernment is second to none.
He sees things that can't be visible to a normal eye.
I don't know how he does it, but he's so perfect at it. It's not a coincidence that he's a mafia boss.
If he weren't a Mafia boss, he would have thrived as a private investigator.
“Did Calum call him over the phone to sell me out?” I asked myself.
That's the only explanation for why Kenny refused to walk inside the house.
I would have been less worried if a telephone conversation were the reason Kenny is still loitering around the house like a night watcher.
“Hell no, he can't possibly do that to me,” I debunked the possibility of Calum exposing me to Callum.
Calum might be everything, but not a snitch. He has just moved in with us, but he has proved to be a thousand times better than Kenny.
He's more of a complete man than Kenny will ever be. Every so often, I wish they would just swap places already.
Last time I checked, he believed my story when I told him I was heading to the mall to get some groceries.
He didn't argue with me or need to call Kenny to seek permission before letting me leave.
He was generous enough to offer me a ride, but I had to turn him down because I knew he would mess up my plan.
Due to the lack of bonding between Kenny and Callum, I don't see Callum going all out just to call Kenny over the phone to discuss sensitive issues.
I could count the number of times they have sat down to have a spirited conversation like brothers ought to.
I saw my wish granted when Kenny finally walked to the house.
However, there was an issue.
His guards!
Some of them accompanied him to the house, while the others stood back to guard the house.
This hasn't occurred before. Enough proof that Kenny is definitely cooking something.
A few minutes after Kenny's departure, my phone rang.
Talk of the devil!
It's not a coincidence that he called my phone a few minutes after he got to the house.
“He probably discovered that I wasn't home and decided to call me. What an a**hole,” I groaned.
Man is so obsessed with me that he doesn't want me out of his sight for a second. He's scared of losing me yet treats me as garbage.
Confusion at its peak.
I quickly turned off the phone to avoid attracting the attention of the guards with my ringtone.
With the guards at the gate, my escape plan becomes even more impossible than it was before.
I contemplated whether it was the right thing to return to the house and pretend to have forgotten my card at home.
But on second thought, I considered the risk involved. Kenny particularly warned me not to leave the house, but I did.
I disobeyed him when I shouldn't have. I committed an offence that's punishable by severe torture.
And it all happened on the day I found out about the bloody contract.
And knowing that Kenny doesn't forgive easily, he will definitely go on to make me suffer for defiling his orders.
“What do I do now?” I asked myself while I paraded the garden like a patrol sheriff.
My heart is restless right now and my head is blank. I can't even think of the least available ideas to salvage my situation.
It wasn't enough for me to disobey Kenny, I still had the guts to turn off my phone to prevent him from reaching out to me.
I keep complicating my cases more without even knowing about it.
“The fence,” I heard an echo inside my head.
It sounded very calm, but it was enough to get my attention.
The same voice that advised me to escape while I was in the house
I haven't jumped from the fence before, and I don't intend to start today.
Even though it's within my height, I'm scared of twisting my ankle in the process of wanting to escape from the best, like Kenny.
“You just have to do it. That's the only option now. Or would you rather get caught?” That's my voice speaking to myself this time.
Slowly, I shut my eyes to summon all the courage needed to scale through this situation.
I've seen scenarios like this in movies where people jump over fences effortlessly without getting hurt, and I said to myself, “If they can do it, I can do it,”
I shoved my fear aside and marched toward the fence area. I tried jumping and gripping it, and I failed.
I fell on the ground and felt a sprain around my waistline. I was worried that my spine might be affected too.
I couldn't scream to demonstrate my pain. I was forced to endure the pain and stood up from the ground.
Relentlessly, I tried for the second time, and I got lucky. I traveled my legs to the other side of the fence, even though I wasn't so comfortable.
I narrowed my gaze to the ground and saw the distance between me.
“This keeps getting worse. What the hell is this? How do I jump down from this without getting hurt?” I panicked.
It was scary as hell. Fear has engulfed me like a shield. I haven't recovered from the sprain around my waistline, and I'm about to end up with a potential knee fracture should I attempt to jump down.
I might as well go wake Bruce Lee from the dead to take stunt lessons from him before attempting this suicide move.
While I was still struggling with my decision-making policy, I heard someone call my name from the house.
I recognize the voice of the jerk.
Kenny!
He screamed my name with so much power that I could feel his vocal cords slowly tearing apart.
The fear of being caught challenged me to attempt a jump to the ground.
Just like I expected, I fractured my knee in the process.
It wasn't a calculated move.
I did it to save my life.
My fall caused the earth to shake like an earthquake.
“Argh! My knee hurts,”
I cried in agony.
I struggled to stand up from the ground. And when I finally did, walking became impossible.
I needed someone to carry me on his shoulders straight to the hospital before I completely lost my legs.
I couldn't even run to the street to get a cab. Where will I get the strength from?
I feel so useless right now without my legs functioning properly.
To my biggest surprise, I saw the gate slowly opening.
“Oh my God. I am doomed for life,” I shake my head in pity.
My eyeballs popped out as my nostrils widened as I saw Kenny's guards stepping outside with loaded guns like warlocks.
“Stay right there, Ella. Don't even try to do anything stupid,” they warned me not to move and threatened to shoot if I moved an inch.
“I need your hands above your head where I can see them,” one of them commanded me.
He c****d the gun to make it seem like he wanted to pull the trigger and blow my f*cking brain off.
