Day Of Reckoning

Ella's Point Of View Some say when you die, you see your life slowly slipping before your very eyes. Mine is different. I died a thousand times while still on my ten toes. It's starting to seem like a dream to me. None of this is worth believing. I want someone to wake me up from my slumber. I shut my eyes. I was hoping that when I finally opened them, it would all be a hallucination. I was wrong. It wasn't an illusion. Rather, it's the sad reality rubbing my face in the mud. My anger became worse. I hate my mother and curse the day she conceived me. “Is she really my biological mother?” That has been the question running through my mind since I discovered the truth. I guess she's in the best position to explain to me the meaning of this madness. “Call her immediately,” a voice spoke to me. I ignored the voice because I couldn't recognize it. That doesn't sound like me. I also don't want to assume that I'm losing my mind. Then came the voice again. This time, it became clearer than it was before. “This is it,” I said to myself. Carefully, I returned the document to its right spot. I did it perfectly to avoid being suspicious. Like a thief at night, I snuck into my room. Approaching my room, I sighted Isla emerging from a distance. I frowned. “Not again.” She's the last person I want to see right now. She derives joy in getting on my last nerves. My lucky day! Perhaps this may be the perfect time for me to hit her harder than she least expected. I snubbed her as though she didn't exist. I wasn't even looking in her direction. I continued to walk to my room. On the verge of opening the door, I felt a soft touch on the shoulder that forced me to a halt. I already knew who that was without even confirmation. “I don't want to do this with you, Isla. Just leave me the heck alone,” I warned her in a soft tone. But behind that calmness dwells a wounded tigress that's yearning to devour its prey to shreds if provoked. Not a word from Isla. I feel pained and neglected. I hate to be thrown into a perpetual silence, and that's precisely what Isla is doing to me right now. I prepared my punch and was ready to strike Isla until she passed out. “Get your hands off me, Isla,” I issued the last warning to her. Still, she refused. Her hands traveled from my shoulder down to my waistline. Immediately, I released my punch to have a rethink. This certainly can't be Isla. She won't dare touch me in that manner. There's only one person in my mind right now, but I just can't prove it. “Well, there's only one way to find out,” I thought. I spin my neck around to behold Kenny standing right in front of me. “You missed my touch, don't you?” He smiled at me. He has no idea how awful his smile is. He tried to approach, but I hesitated. With an upraised arm, I stopped him. “Don't even dare come closer to me,” “Ella?” He called my name in a fallen tone. “What the f**k are you doing?” “Doing what I should have done a long time ago,” I retorted! I cannot fathom the strength that possessed my soul, but I'm glad it did. It possessed me at the right time when I needed to stand up for what is right. “I own you, Ella. Don't forget. Your body and soul are mine,” he bragged. “Not anymore!” I silenced him before he was done talking. I dashed to my room and shut the door to cry my eyes out. He came landing some heavy knocks on the door. “Open the damn door now,” “Go away, Kenny. I hate you,” I cursed him. I wasn't afraid of the punishment that awaited me for disrespecting the most ruthless mafia boss in the city. No one dares to step on his toes and gets away with it. Not me. Not Callum Not even his fierce rivals. Yelling at him was where I drew the line. I may have just shot myself in the legs without knowing about it. “Ella, don't push me to the wall. I don't mean to hurt you,” he threatened me with a loud voice. I felt the panic hovering around me. His ferocious voice connotes fear and terror. I can feel my soul departing from my body already. On several occasions, I've witnessed him punish his offenders. He left some with severe injuries, and others had to endure a broken neck. Who knows, I might endure the worst punishment ever recorded in history books? After a thorough deliberation, I stood up and rushed to open the door. At the speed of light, I ran back to the bed to take cover. I don't need any soothsayer to know that he wanted to punch me. I shivered like a hen drenched by the heavy downpour as he stood at a distance to stare at me in disgust He was staring directly at my soul. If looks could kill, I'd be roaming the underworld now. Like a warlock, he marches towards me while I continue to avoid him. I regret not having a superpower. I wouldn't hesitate to vanish into thin air without a trace. I was hoping the earth would engulf me. That will be better than what Kenny will do to me. “Start talking now!” His lips vibrated. I could feel the voice behind it. He just flipped the script to his favor. The last time I checked, he betrayed me with the so-called contract. If there's anyone who needs to be angry right now, it has to be me. Unfortunately, I just found myself in a situation where I needed to start begging for his mercy. Just a punch from Kenny and I'll find myself in a coma while still hoping for a miracle to stay alive.
