The Devil's Advocate

Ella's Point Of View “I found out about the bloody contract, you swine,” I let the dogs out. “Why did you decide to humiliate me like this? Where is conscience?” I continued with the spark. That didn't come out on purpose. I felt like apologizing and rephrasing my words. But after a second thought, I had to stand on my ground. That's my way of saying no one messes with me and gets away with it. The deed is done already and there's nothing I can do to change it. “What the f*ck are you talking about? Are you losing your head? Did you need the doctor to come over and check what's wrong with you?” He tried to deny it, but his facial expressions failed him. That's all I need. His honesty meant nothing to me. I already have all the evidence I need to back my claim. “The agreement you had with my mother, you clown!” I added. I stood up and approached him. “I saw the contract where you kept it. You weren't as smart as I thought. Of all the places to conceal your secret, you chose the library?” I kept on speaking without a halt. He didn't even try to stop me or hit me in the face. He just stood there staring at me like a dummy. I bet he must be wondering how I found the contract. “Hey, did the cat cut your tongue?” I waved at his face to get his attention. I just needed a reaction from him. His silence isn't helping matters. It makes it difficult for me to read his thoughts. “Is this the point where you start talking or do I need to force the words out of your mouth?” I pulled his shirt and shoved him aside. Still, Kenny was motionless. I believe he died a thousand times while standing That's not me speaking. It's an unexplained confidence. But a much-needed one. He has trampled on me several times. He needed to feel my wrath. In normal circumstances, I won't even dare to talk back to him, let alone pull his shirt like that. I guess he regretted his actions. Deep down, he wants to apologize to me. But no, his ego won't let him do that! “How dare you cross the boundary I warned you against?” He finally said something with a scary look. “What gave you the audacity? You know I could strangle you to death right now and get away with it?” Kenny threatened me with a stern glance at my eyes. That's the scariest thing I've heard someone say to me since my existence. That wasn't a fluke. He meant every damn word he just uttered. He's a thousand times superior to me. I bet the police aren't going to start investigating my case when I'm gone. He has the state police command on his payroll. They practically worship the ground he walks on. With his wealth and affluence, he can easily break the law without fear of being prosecuted for it. It wasn't what I expected from him. I thought I had everything under control when he went mute. Now I know the reason for his silence. He was definitely preparing for his perfect comeback. And of course, it worked for him. He just left me stunned with his retaliation. I glanced around to be certain he was talking to me. I tried convincing myself that there was someone else in the room with us until Kenny pulled my hair. “Let me go. You're hurting me," I struggled to break free from his grip, but he's too powerful for me to handle. I could feel my skull ripping off my head. I was afraid I might start bleeding from my skull. Despite his torment on my soul, nobody showed up to my rescue. Not even Callum. Isla Or Luca. Perhaps they have anticipated moments like this all their life. This is the moment I expected Callum to prove his love for me by confronting Kenny, and he disappointed me. Now I'm being forced to defeat this beast alone. Whoever made me believe the devil lives in hell lied to us. He's standing right in front of me now. He just possessed Kenny's soul. “Now listen to me and listen carefully, because I won't want to repeat myself,” he pulled my ears after letting go of my hair. “I owe you and everything that is yours. You don't get to decide what I do to you. I've bought full ownership over your life.” Then he pushes me to the bed. I was fortunate not to end up with a sprain in my neck. It's Kenny's audacity to act like God over my life. My mother just created a monster when she decided to strike a deal with a devil's advocate. He strolled around the room with his hands positioned behind him as though he were searching for a lost item. “Misplaced priorities,” he sniffed at me with his nostrils as though I were oozing. If that's the highest form of humiliation, then I don't know what else it is anymore. “You should be angry at your mother and not me. I only offered to clear her gambling debts,” he spoke to the wall without looking at me in the face. I'm ashamed to admit it. He's right. Oh, yes, he is. For the first time, I'm forced to agree with Kenny. My mum is the villain here. She sold me out to Kenny. Kenny didn't point a gun at her head before she made the decision. And here I am, getting pissed off at the wrong person when my mum is having the time of her life in a different city. “Is this the mother f*cking thanks I get for wanting to clear your mother's debts?” He turned around to yell at me. “Answer me!” He screamed again. Instantly, I felt a small particle of his saliva landing on my lips. He spreads his arms in the air like a god. “I deserve to be worshipped, adored, and celebrated. But what did I get in return? Disrespect!” “But I worked for the debts to be cleared,” I muttered succinctly. “Don't try to gaslight me.” I wasn't going to let him paint a false narrative about me. “Did you say something?” He leaned forward. "Say it again if you have the guts. “I missed it the first time. I promise not to hurt you. I just need you to be honest with me,” he assured me! He has the wrong person. I am never falling for that old school trick. Even when he smiles, he will never be taken seriously. I sealed my lips. I chose to stay dumb to avoid being punched in the face. Suddenly, his phone rang to disrupt the moment. That's my saving grace right there. A massive relief for me. I needed a bit of distraction to rescue me from his wrath. Fortunately for me, the universe granted my heart's desires I crawled to the edge of the bed like a ball python while he answered the phone. “Okay. I'll be there in a bit,” he told the caller before ending the call. I looked away when he returned the phone to his pocket. I was too scared to look him in the face. He had no horns planted on his forehead, yet he was able to plant that terror inside of me. I can't imagine the kind of suffering that awaits me. Just when I thought discovering the truth would be a blessing for me, it turned out to be a curse. “I'll be back at this. This conversation ain't over yet. Your punishment awaits you,” he said to me and vanished into thin air. I cried my eyes out until I exhausted all the tears in my eyes. I still cannot get over the fact that my mother betrayed me without a second thought. While I was trying to navigate through the calamity that had befallen me, I got a call from my mother. Perfect timing. This isn't a coincidence. He definitely told her everything that happened between us. How on earth do I explain that she finally decided to reach out on the day I found out that she sold me out?
