CHAPTER 2

Sienna Rhodes POV Later that Day - Wolfe Enterprises, The 38th Floor. Words couldn’t describe how I felt right now. I thought I had it all figured out, and then Dominic comes in and ruins everything. My father, in a photo, with Dominic, the man I had just seen standing over a dead body with blood all over his hands. I had not seen my father since the day he walked out of my life, leaving me to face this cruel world on my own. I was just a teenager with bills, a sick mother, and an absent father. No calls, No Texts, Nothing. So why would he be posing with one of the richest billionaires in New York? This photo started to make me question everything. I turned the photo over and a date sat at the bottom in faint ink. I moved the photo closer to my eyes to get a clearer look. June 14th, 2024. Two months ago? My mind started to race. What a way to find out about your absent father. Dominic Wolfe, you know just the right thing to get my blood pressure up. ‘Miss Rhodes ?’ I almost jumped out of my seat at the sound of my name. A tall woman stood at the doorway with a warm smile on her face. ‘I’m Eliza Vaughn,’ she says as she walks in. ‘ Dominic’s business partner. ’ This woman was stunning. Her legs were long, and her figure screamed ‘Victoria's Secret model’. She catwalks towards my desk with a white buttoned silk skirt and a long dark green pencil skirt, her red lip combo complemented by her light brown hair with blonde highlights. I couldn’t believe that I was looking at ‘The Eliza Vaughn’. The brain behind the Wolfe Enterprise. Rumours have it that she was the one who ran the Wolfe Enterprise, while Dominic was just the face. ‘I was told to give you an orientation,’ she says, a look of disgust on her face. Like a piece of dirt on the ground, she said, ‘I don’t know how you got in here, but I’ll do my job to show you around’. I may not be stinking rich, but if there was one thing I hated, it was being talked down to like a piece of trash. ‘Excuse me ?’ I ask. This time, I was holding back a lot of things I wanted to say. ‘I don’t like to deal with strays, Dominic pulls from the street,’ she says as she lightly taps her fingers on my desk. ‘You are not qualified to be here; a college dropout like you has no business being in a room filled with professionals. ’ I let out a laugh. This crazy b***h must think she’s the s**t just because she works here. ‘Let’s skip the small talk, Eliza,’ I say. ‘If this is your way of making me feel welcome, then you suck. ’ ‘Good, you weren’t meant to like it anyway,’ she said with an evil smile plastered across her face. ‘He wants to see you. ’ By he, she meant Dominic, of course. I followed Eliza down the hallway, trying my best not to pull all my hair out. I have not been here for up to 24 hours, and I already feel like I'm losing my mind. My mind still circled the photo of my father and Dominic. Did he work here? Or was he involved in something shady with Dominic? If Dominic knew who my father was and was that close to him, that only meant one thing. Dominic was much closer to me than I thought. We walked into a huge conference room, a big round table almost filled the room, and there were so many chairs around the table. Dominic sat at the far end, his laptop in front of him, as he clenched his fist together as he said ; ‘You’re late’ I grab a seat opposite him. ‘No, you’re just too early,’ I reply. He lifts his eyes from the laptop and looks at me, his eyes cold and scary as usual. Eliza clears her throat and walks away. ‘So,’ I say as I slide the photo across the table towards him. ‘Would you like to tell me why my deadbeat father, whom I have not seen in years, is in a photo with you ?’ He gives me his usual cold look and says, ‘There are so many things you are yet to find out, Sienna. ’ ‘Then you better start spilling,’ I say. He pushes his laptop to the side, leans forward, and looks me dead in the eye. This man had no idea how scary he could be. He looked like he didn’t want to have this conversation. ‘ Malcom worked for a private investment cartel. They fund numerous high-end ventures, particularly in technology and media. He was a middleman for a deal that I wanted to close. That photo was taken on the day that the deal was closed,’ he says. I look at him in disbelief. There’s no way the man that I grew up with till the moment he walked out of my life was right here in New York. ‘I don’t believe you,’ I say. ‘You can choose to believe what you want, but I am saying the truth,’ he says. ‘But, he walked out of my life,’ I say, ‘ And you mean to tell me that he has been playing around with billionaires while I worked my ass off all these years. ’ Dominic was still looking at me with the same coldness in his eyes. The silence was gripping me; a part of me didn’t want to believe Dominic, but the hard evidence was staring back at me in this photo. My father walked away and let us suffer all these years because he wanted to. He never cared about us. He never cared about me. Dominic clears his throat, and I suddenly snap out of my thoughts. ‘Your father is a complicated man,’ he says. ‘Well, if that’s your way of saying that he’s a coward, then I am with you on that. ’ Dominic stood up from his seat as he made his way to the huge window that showcased a beautiful view of the Manhattan Skyline. ‘Your father didn’t mind getting his hands dirty, if he got an opportunity to,’ he says. ‘What does that mean ?’ I ask. ‘It means that your father was into something deeper than just investments, and I’m certain that he made enemies along the way. ’ He says, his back still facing me. I roll my eyes and say ‘ Enemies like who ?’ This time, he turned to face me; his eyes weren’t cold and expressionless; they held something much deeper. ‘Viktor Serrano,’ he says quietly. I quickly scan through my mind. I was sure that I had heard that name before.’ Then it suddenly clicked.
