CHAPTER FIVE
(RYAN SETH KALES’ POV)
I watched her walk down the aisle, holding firmly onto King Ryder’s arm. Her blonde hair was adorned with diamonds, her dress embroidered with the finest white gold, the sight of it immediately calmed everyone. For werewolves, white gold is more than just jewelry, it is a treasure that balances our human and wolf sides.
She smiled brightly, her green eyes shining like gems, the freckles around her skin always made her radiate more. All eyes were on the two, Each extremely attractive in a unique way, the only feature they had in common was their silver like almost white hair, but apart from that, you couldn't tell they are siblings.
When I had met Lyka she was starving in the streets of the Blackwood pack, the first thing I noticed on the malnourished girl was her silver white like hair, I had had the pleasure of seeing the former king once and I knew this type of hair was extremely rare, mostly only seen on the members of the Royal family, so I tried my chance, I had used my last money and bought her a meal.
Her green eyes had shone brightly and before long she proved my efforts worthy. She pulled out a necklace with a jade. It was the necklace only won by royalty, not even the king's cousins, but the King's direct family and her next words had sealed our fate.
“I am looking for Ryder Kingston,” she had whispered.
That moment, as a young wolf that was deemed worthless by society, left to be a rogue pick pocketing just to survive. I saw my chance at power, wealth, and a life worthy of living.
I sacrificed everything, and put my life in danger a couple of times just to get her safely to Kingston.
At first because of my weak wolf I wanted to request to be sent to the human world and become one of the company's directors but Lyka surprised me when she declared that I was to join the King’s Circle to train, because I was the only man who would ever be her husband.
And she had proved to be a loyal woman, because right now she held out her hand waiting for me to take her from her brother and make her mine.
I picked up the ring and placed it on her hand. I was met with many disapproving sighs. After all many believed if I wasn't their princess' mate, the least I could do was a binding ritual.
Since mates were almost extinct lately, I guess many wolves expected me to have a binding ceremony with Lyka and make her my chosen, but why would why?
The truth is, everything I had Lyka had given. Even when I tried to do it myself, she was always faster to have it done. This war was my only victory, yet she had somehow enforced her way into my victory and now I had to marry her as a reward?
She will pay for forcing this marriage upon me.
I have never intended on marrying this wolf less princess. All I want is a child from her, one I can use as a stepping stone in my plan to gain power. Lyka, will never be more than that. I smiled at her as she greeted the guests. Delta Gray Alton who stood next to me laughed at my sad attempt of a smile. He was my second in command.
"Finally, you have married her," he said, clapping me on the back cheerfully. "At least smile, doesn't this make you Prince Kale, the future king, after all our king refuses to marry, hurry up and have pups so you can secure your claim to the throne."
I forced a tight smile, my jaw clenched. "He has refused to name me Prince," I said, my voice low but filled with anger. "I am still just a Beta, further away from the throne than Echo Carter."
Alton's smile disappeared. "How is that possible?" he asked. "Echo's just a Beta and simply the king's best friend. That doesn't give him a right to the throne. He has no royal blood. Ryder loves Lyka so much, how can he allow it?" He asked, his face red with anger, mirroring my own.
I took a deep breath, before answering. "She requested it," I said, my voice filled with venom, as I glared at the blonde. She was laughing, her eyes sparkling as she chatted with her mysterious maid, Sylivia.
Delta's eyes widened in shock, his face pale. "What?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. "How can she do that? Everyone knows she loves you so much."
I laughed bitterly. "Exactly, she convinced her brother that we truly loved each other, and I am not just after the title or throne." I replied, sarcastically.
Alton turned to me, his face confused. "Then why did you marry her?" he asked curiously.
I leaned in, a cold calculating smile spreading across my face. "Because, even if I don't want to admit it, Lyka is a princess, I can't let her marry another man and steal all my privileges. Until I say otherwise, she will remain my loyal slave, my ladder to the top." My eyes locked onto Lyka possessively. "And besides, even if no one calls me prince, they all know I can be king one day."
Alton looked at me in confusion, his eyes searching mine for answers. I smiled at him, reassuringly. "Don't worry, I still have a secret card to deal with Ryder," I whispered.
Alton's eyes widened in fear as he stepped back. "What……? You can't possibly kill him?" he stammered.
I chuckled. "Am I that stupid, and even if I tried, I doubt anyone can win a challenge against him. Also it's impossible to poison him after all he cooks his own meals." I leaned back in thought, Alton watched me. "But I will get the werewolves' support once word of how I won the war spreads."
“What do you mean?” he asked confused, Was he that stupid? I wondered!
I sighed but still explained. "The Red Wolf is one of the most respected figures in our society. It is said she holds the key to destroying the vampires. Her bite is a fatal poison that kills them immediately." He nodded.
I continued confident in my plan, "In the last two wars, she has appeared, slaughtering vampires and winning wars but surprisingly running to me with her last kill each time. Warriors are now whispering that it means she recognizes me as her superior and leader," I said proudly.
Alton's eyes widened, as he finally understood. "You are going to use the red wolf to defeat the king?" he asked, his voice trembling. "Are you insane? The Red Wolf might be mighty on the battlefield, but I doubt she is a match for the king." He paused, his expression turning serious. "Gefahr is the most dangerous wolf to ever exist, add if he is in his bloodlust... " He trailed off in fear and I couldn't blame him. The king looked like a simple man, but he was dangerous beyond the limit.
I crossed my arms stubbornly. "I know, I am not stupid, Alton.” I sighed. “We are not going to war, I believe she is my mate.”
“What…?” He spilled his wine in shock.
I shook my head as he signaled for me to explain “Why do you think she keeps showing up to protect me on the battlefield. She gives me her kills all the time, like they are a tribute." I said.
Alton raised an eyebrow in question. "How do you know she is female? She masks her scent all the time." He asked.
I hesitated for a moment, a smile playing on my lips. "I caught a glimpse of her shifting once." I said, smiling at the memory, she had the most beautiful back I had ever seen, how I wish I could see her face.
Alton's eyes widened. "Wow, Ryan... that's amazing. But if the red wolf is your mate, what about Lyka?"
I leaned back against the wall. "Lyka is just a wolfless princess. She is my ticket to the throne." I said in disgust, if only Lyka was docile.
“And Natasha,” Alton asked.
I smiled, my mind drifting to the innocent Omega who had grown up by my side. Beautiful and docile, just as I liked my women.
A gasp and a broken pot brought me out of my dream. I spun around in panic, my eyes landing on a white dress vanishing around the corner. I panicked, someone had overheard everything.
Immediately, I scanned the room for Lyka, but she was gone. Had she heard me? The thought sent a cold shiver down my spine.
"Alton, help me find whoever that was," I said in panic and fear.
