As the morning sunlight filtered through her bedroom window, Naomi slowly opened her eyes, as if welcoming the world anew. She stretched her arms wide, a gentle smile illuminating her face like a small butterfly dancing among the colors of spring. Life seemed to flow through her veins again, and she rose to greet the day with an energy she hadn't felt in a long time. She pulled the covers off completely and stepped lightly to the mirror. There, in her reflection, she smoothed her hair with her hands and noticed the subtle change in her features. She looked brighter, more at peace with her new life, as if she had made peace with herself. She turned gracefully and headed towards the door that had been open since the night before, ready to face a new day. Naomi went out to the market, but her outlook on the world had changed. A confident smile graced her lips, and her steps carried a certain assurance, as if she had left her sadness behind the closed door of her home. She stopped at a greengrocer's stall, carefully selecting vegetables with a smile, and wandered through the aisles, enjoying every color and aroma, as if the market had transformed into a small stage for her newfound freedom. She noticed a young man looking at her admiringly, but she quickly... She looked away, maintaining her composure and balance, and continued on her way home. Yet, that fleeting glance had an effect on him that surpassed any magic. He rose from his chair inside the store, captivated by her beauty, and went outside, standing in the doorway, gazing at her with admiration.
When Naomi arrived at her apartment, she opened the door, brought in her suitcases, and placed them carefully on the dining table. She sat down in a chair, lost in thought, speaking quietly to herself.
Naomi : Why was that young man looking at me like that? Perhaps my father was right.
Her heart began to throb with feelings of love and passion that had never crossed her mind before. Her thoughts were clouded with memories of Rania and Sameh's presence in her life, but this young man seemed to be stirring her emotions and drawing her attention to things she hadn't noticed before: that she could still live, that love might knock on her heart's door, and that she seemed free to go out and love. Suddenly, Naomi got up and headed to her room. The door was open. She entered the room and picked up an elegant purple tie, carefully placing it around her neck and glancing in the mirror. Then she turned to the bags, picked up one, and stared at it, but it seemed she didn't like it. She threw it aside carelessly. The bag fell randomly onto the bed. She picked up another bag, seemingly preferring it, and carried it confidently in her arms. She glanced in the mirror, smiled to herself, then left the room with confident steps. She approached the apartment door, opened it, went out, and closed it behind her. But Naomi wasn't going to meet a lover or a friend. Naomi had decided to break the loneliness and sadness by going to her father Sameh's house and his new wife Ghada's. She dreamed that she would find Ghada in the place of her mother Rania, and that her father Sameh would still be a loving father to her, as he had been to Rania. Naomi stood in front of Sameh and Ghada's apartment door, her hand trembling slightly as she pressed the doorbell. Inside, Sameh and his new wife Ghada were lying on the bed. Sameh was kissing Ghada in the foreplay of a s****l encounter, which was the normal situation for a newlywed couple. They didn't hear the doorbell, or perhaps they were ignoring everything around them. Ghada looked happy. But Naomi was outside, pressing the bell again after what felt like hours. Confusion grew on her face, and worry crept into her heart, but still, the door remained closed, and there was no answer. Her fingers trembled again as she pressed the bell button. Finally, she heard Sameh speak in a sharp, sudden voice from behind the door.
Sameh:Who is this annoying person ringing the bell without warning?
Sameh opened the door to find Naomi standing before him, hesitant and trembling slightly. He seemed confused for a moment, but quickly regained his composure and said with a smile,
Sameh: Hello, Naomi. Please come in.
Sameh stepped aside and allowed Naomi to enter the apartment. Naomi moved cautiously, her steps heavy with fear, as if she dreaded every corner of the house. Sameh closed the door behind her, then led her to the living room, gesturing to a chair.
Sameh:Please, have a seat. Would you like something to drink? Shall I bring you some tea?
Naomi smiled slightly and said,
Naomi:No, thank you, Dad. I was bored of sitting alone, so I thought I'd come and congratulate you both on your marriage.
Sameh smiled and sat down in the chair next to Naomi, trying to appear calm despite the tension etched on his face, as if he feared facing Naomi and Ghada.
Sameh: Well done, Naomi; excellent work.
A short silence followed, then Ghada entered the living room with confident, steady steps. She stood facing Sameh and Naomi, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Naomi stood up and extended her hand to shake Ghada's, astonished by the striking resemblance between Ghada and her late mother, Rania, as if she were standing before a spitting image. Naomi cautiously shook Ghada's hand, then sat down, observing every detail with wonder, without uttering a word.
Ghada stared at Naomi, then turned and looked at Sameh, saying,
Ghada: Who is this, Sameh?
Sameh: This is my daughter, Naomi.
Ghada turned and looked at Naomi, saying sharply,
Ghada: Hello, but you should ask permission before visiting, Naomi.
Naomi raised her eyebrows confidently and said,
Naomi: I don't think I needed to ask permission before coming to my father's house.
Sameh smiled nervously as Ghada looked at him with suppressed anger and said,
Ghada: It's clear she doesn't understand, Sameh. It seems you haven't raised this girl well.
Ghada got up and went to her room, her anger evident. Naomi got up and walked quickly towards the apartment door, tears welling in her eyes, her sadness and frustration clear. Sameh got up from his chair and quickly followed Naomi, gently taking her shoulders in his hands and pulling her towards him. He said,
Sameh: Don't be upset, Naomi. Ghada doesn't know you yet.
Naomi: I'm not angry with her. I'm angry with you! How could you marry a woman like her? She told me she looks just like my mother! She may resemble her in appearance, but she's immoral.
Naomi's tears flowed as Sameh tried to comfort her. He seemed hesitant and confused.
Sameh: It's alright, Naomi. Go now, and I'll catch up with you. But why did you come?
Naomi looked at him through her tears and whispered,
Naomi:You're right. I shouldn't have come.
Naomi opened the apartment door and left. Sameh closed the door and rushed to Ghada's room, trying to regain his composure before the tension escalated for both him and Ghada, his new wife. Sameh was very careful not to upset Ghada and to keep her content and calm.
