I started swimming when I was pissed at my father for missing out on my birthday. I joined the championship because I wanted his attention. And I won second place. I had just turned five and all the swimming I knew was through the hour-long sessions in summer in our vacation home pool. I had a talent for swimming and everyone noticed that very early and made use of it. That’s how my swimming career began and never paused for twenty years. My whole life, I dedicated for the sport. I moved to the US when I was a teen, living in dorms and crafting my talent. I hated studying, and school was my enemy.
