“Are you upset?” Maybe it was the long bothering silence that tipped him off. I'm not upset. I'm just… embarrassed. At the time the embarrassment was immense, in me and him. I could have hidden as a child may have; I could’ve just turned to look at the other side of the road. But it was time to own it, make apologies, and show that I was more grown-up than all that, that I had inner strength.
“I'm sorry. I made this all so awkward,” I uttered.
“No, I did that. But I won't apologize for it. I've been wanting to do it for so long.
