Part 2

“Don’t worry, if you get pregnant, I’ll take care of it.” What! What did that even mean? In no state to ask, I crawled to my clothes pulling them on quickly as I panted. Dressing, I stole glances watching him do the same reaching for his shirt and popping the buttons through one by one. Finally with enough courage, I stood speaking softly. “Take care of it how?” What I wanted to hear was that he cared for me, that he wanted to continue this. That maybe he wanted more, he wanted a real relationship. Garrison’s gaze catching my own I almost thought I saw a softness as his mouth opened to speak. A knock sounding at the door cutting off any chance of a conversation, a rushed voice sounded from beyond the door called out. “Boss, your wife…” The door thrown open in an instant, I had no time to process as my chest constricted at the words and sight before me. A beautiful blonde walking through the office, she eyed me suspiciously before moving ever so closely to Garrison’s side. Her voice sounding with an audible pout, she gripped at his shirt pushing herself up against him provocatively. “Honey are you still working? Who’s this?” Her eyes once again settling on me, I was… shocked, I was in shock. He was married? Garrison was married… The man that had s*x with me nearly every day, the man that stayed at my apartment a few nights a week. I should have known, of course he did not care about me. In fact, he had a wife, a very beautiful wife. But what exactly did that make me? “Alex, this is one of our long term tenants, Missy. She’s just here having a meeting concerning her new rental agreement.” His voice holding no air of endearment or familiarity for me, he barely gave me a second glance as his eyes remained on his wife. Appearing to give no care as he did not even bother to meet my gaze in the silence ensuing. He just gestured to me with his free hand as he seemingly tore his gaze from his wife to concentrate on the smoke he was lighting between his fingers. Taking my jacket, I wrapped it around my shoulders clutching my bag tightly to my chest. Looking down, I could see the yellow packet of his money that I brought with me every time. I never gave it to him concerned that whatever this was would end, and to be honest, he never asked. His wife’s hand on his chest, my insides twisted knowing her hands were sitting right above where I raked him with my nails. Garrison finally speaking again breaking the silence hanging in the air. “Alex do you want to give us a few minutes to wrap up this meeting, once I’m finished here…” His sentence cut off she spoke quickly. “We can go home? Yes, maybe I can cook for you tonight?” Garrison’s eyes finally shifting onto me, I could feel his eye’s, but I could not look back. Just focusing in on the yellow pouch as my grip on my bag grew tighter. I was stupid. Sucking in a deep breath, I finally found the composure to speak. “There is no need to discuss anything further. I feel that you have made your position more than clear. You both have fun and thank you again for your assistance. As always, you have been very generous.” Garrison’s eyes darkening, I felt his glare as I turned to walk toward the door. Garrison’s tone striking, and harsh. “We are not done yet Missy, sit down!” His wife flinching slightly startled at Garrison’s sudden change in tone, I watched her smile turn into a smirk as she turned to walk toward the door evidently trying to give Garrison the space he needed and asked for to complete our meeting. My pride taking a hit, and my heart on the floor stomped on, I made a choice. “Oh sorry, I almost forgot.” Walking to his desk that he now stood behind, I could see Garrison slightly shaking his head as his wife stopped to watch me while I lifted the pay packet out of my bag. Throwing it on the desk with a heavy thump. I looked him clear in the eyes, “your money, in full, with interest. I guess, I finally turned a profit.” Appearing speechless, Garrison was still looking at the pay packet as I turned my back on him walking toward the door fleeing before I was unable to do so even as he yelled out my name. My heart ripping, I could not look at the men standing now sheepishly by the door. Quickening my steps, by the time I reached my car door, I could no longer see straight as tears flooded my eyes. Stretching my hand out for the door handle, I felt my body yanked back as I was spun and pressed hard against the side of the car. The coolness of the car invading my back, the warmth of Garrison’s chest almost burnt me as his voice sounded harshly. “Where the f**k do you think you are going?” Panting hard, evidence of literally running after me, I could still not look him in the face turn my gaze anywhere but toward him.
