Chapter 4
Slav didn’t answer for several seconds. Jenna wondered whether he had frozen, whether events had finally proven too much for him.
“We can withstand it,” he said finally. “I’ve checked the calculations. Our shields can absorb the hit, though it’s going to dent them badly.”
He hadn’t frozen. He’d been running calculations. Jenna smiled slightly. She’d had officers in the fleet who’d not held it together as well as he was, even after extensive training.
“So you’re safe?”
Another pause, not so long this time though.
“We should be. I can make a fairly good estimate of the freighter’s mass from the way it’s accelerating and so the speed it might reach. That tells us how much energy it will strike with.”
