Chapter Five - Preparing For What is Yet to Come

            it is having been a week since the whole banshee incident. Karissa and Ashleigh have been working hard to learn everything they can about all the creatures good and bad. They are not allowed to tell their friends or anyone else. Their father does not even know they have magic or that their mother does. The girls have all the books in the attic and their laptops basically studying about creatures. Their parents do not go in the attic so the girls thought it would be best to do their studying up here. They do not want either of their parents to know that they are preparing themselves for all the great evil that is yet to come for them.

Karissa leans back and starts stretching.

Ashleigh looks up at Karissa and says, “What’s wrong?”

Karissa “My eyes hurt from reading and I am starving.”

Ashleigh “Okay let’s take a break then.”

Karissa is happy. They grab their shoes and head downstairs. As they were about to leave their mother stops them.

Nikki “Where are you two off to?”

Ashleigh “To hopes diner to see Emma and Hope”

Nikki “Okay, don’t be out to late.”

Ashleigh “Alright! Bye Mom.”

Out the door they went. Emma was waiting by the car for the twins. Hope is already at the diner. She works there with her mom sometimes. They all got in the car and headed to the diner. On the way to the diner the girls were as quiet as possible. Not even singing along with the radio which was one of their favorite things to do.

Emma spoke out “What is wrong with you two? You both are being super quiet. Distancing yourselves from Hope and I. what is going on?”

Karissa “Nothing we have a lot on our plates with training for cheer and training our magic. Plus, schoolwork this year is already way more complicated than last year.”

Emma “Okay, I get that. But friends are supposed to be here for one another and someone you can lean on when you need too.”

Ashleigh “We are sorry Emma! We weren’t trying to be horrible friends we just became overwhelmed.”

Emma “I forgive you girls. I love you both. B.F.F.’S?”

Ashleigh and Karissa “B.F.F.’S”

They arrived at the diner. The girls get out of the car and go into the diner and sit down in their usual booth. They see hope and wave her to come over.

Hope walks over and says, “Hey guys, what are you doing here?”

Emma “We came to see you silly. Will your mom let you take a break?”

Hope “Let me check.”

Karissa “I hope she can take a break if it’s not too busy in here tonight. I wonder why this place is always booming.”

Ashleigh “probably because that restaurant just opened across the street.”

Emma “oh s**t, their taking all of Ms. Williams’s customers.”

Karissa “Hey Hope, how are you?”

Hope “I have been better my mom is losing business because of that place across the street.”

Ashleigh “I am sorry Hope. Maybe we can change that by having an open mic night or something?”

Hope “yeah that would be great. I will be right back I am going to ask my mom if we can do it.”

Ashleigh “I hope her mom says yes do you know how much fun we would have? Not only planning it but being a part of it”

Karissa “it is going to be amazing.”

Hope “my mom said yes.”

All four girls screaming “yayyy! This is going to be great. We are going to have so much fun.”

The other waitress delivered their food and drinks. The girls grabbed some paper menus and some pens and started planning the open mic night while they ate. All the girls are super excited.

            After the girls got home from the diner they went back up to the addict and sat down to do more research and they both realized.

Ashleigh “Holy s**t! How are we supposed to do research and study plus help Emma and Hope plan an open mic night?”

Karissa “okay we can help Emma and Hope plan for the open mic night on our breaks from our research sound good?”

Ashleigh “sounds good to me.”

The girls continued their research on monsters and demons and other non-evil creatures.

Karissa “Ashleigh listen to this; it says in the whetstone valley coven there is a private library that the founding mothers built underneath the coven house/workhouse. This library contains all the books with information about every creature on this earth. Ashleigh, we have to go find the library.”

Ashleigh “let me see that book, the library will only reveal itself to those who wishes to use the knowledge in these books to do good and not evil. How are we going to find a library that has been cloaked with magic Karissa?”

Karissa “we go to the Coventry house and look we don’t plan to use the information for evil so maybe it will reveal itself to us.”

Ashleigh “okay, but it’s late. Mom and dad aren’t going to let us go out this late.”

Karissa “who says they have to know we are going out? We are witches Ashleigh we can smoke ourselves there.”

Ashleigh “mom says that is too dangerous. We could get caught.”

Karissa “If we land outside but not if we land inside.”

Ashleigh “wait look, there is a tunnel that leads from our basement to The Coventry House.”

Karissa “perfect where?”

Ashleigh “The basement.”

So, the girls quietly go to the basement hoping not to be caught by their parents. Luckily, it looks like their parents are asleep. The girls head down into the basement and start looking around for a door. Ashleigh finds the door hidden behind a bookcase. The girls move the bookcase and they open the door. Candles instantly lit up after the door was opened. Must have been a spell LuCretia cast on the candles. The girls start walking through the tunnel at the end of the tunnel was a door. They opened the door and discovered that this tunnel did not lead them to the Coventry house but to the secret library. It is in fact under Coventry but the only access to it is through the basement of our home. LuCretia wanted to make sure only a whetstone had access to the library. There were thousands of books among other things in the middle of the library there was a wooden chest. Karissa tried to open it, but it was locked. On the top there was, an inscription carved. It said

Only the true can open with the gold

Karissa “what the hell does that mean?”

Ashleigh “I think it means us. We are the golden twins and the true heirs to all eight-founding mother’s”

Karissa “maybe the gold is that gold magic we used on the banshee”

Ashleigh “well there is only one way to find out”

Karissa “I am ready when you are sis”

Ashleigh “okay let’s go”

Ashleigh and Karissa held hands and focused on the chest. Their hands began to glow with a golden light, so they placed their hands on each side of the chest. The chest lock unlocked itself. The girls opened the chest to find this huge leather-bound book with their covens’ symbol on it. The girls realized it looks exactly like the one mom has. Suddenly, they felt a gust of wind and turned around. To see a ghost that resembled the very great so many times great grandmother LuCretia Whetstone.

Ashleigh “you look like LuCretia Whetstone?”

LuCretia “that is because I am her, well her spirit anyway. I am here to guide you. This is your first time here. You did a wonderful job calling your powers to open the box. Well done my great grand-daughters.”

Karissa “wait a minute you created all of this in preparing for us?”

LuCretia “yes, I am an oracle I seen everything I also knew you would not be born for nearly 500 years after me.”

Ashleigh “what is the greatest evil that is coming for us?”

LuCretia “he has no name that I can see but he looks like a man a human man but with great dark powers. One of your other great grandmothers was an artist she drew a picture of him as I described him to her it’s in the book at the back.”

Ashleigh “gasp”

Karissa “what’s wrong Ashleigh?”

Ashleigh “I know this man”

LuCretia “then he is too close to you girls already.”

Ashleigh “no he doesn’t know us, and he has never seen us I have only seen him once staring at a boy. It’s Zane’s father Mr. Roberts.”

LuCretia “are they new to this village?”

Ashleigh “yes and it is called a town now not a village great grandmother”

LuCretia “yes of course”

Ashleigh “they moved here a year ago. Before we even received our powers. But the whetstone valley prophecy is everywhere online the town uses it for tourist.”

LuCretia “in that book you will find every creature that will come for you and how to defeat them properly. That is your book of shadows. Every witch has one. But this one is special it was made in preparation for you girls. If you have any questions I am here. I will not rest until you have fulfilled your destiny. In the chest are amulets for each of you always wear them but conceal them these amulets will mask your powers so no one can feel the pull of your powers.

Karissa “Thank you great grandmother. We best be going it is getting really late and we need to get some sleep.”

LuCretia “of course but the book cannot leave this place I will move the library closer to the house so it is not far away, and the door will only appear to you two girls alone not with anyone else. Not even coven members not everyone can be trusted.

Karissa “okay grandma I love you. Bye”

Ashleigh “love you grandma good night”

LuCretia “I love you girls too good night loves”

The girls ran home through the tunnel it is literally the only way to the library. As soon as the girls went through the door it closed and disappeared. The girls went upstairs to their rooms and got ready for bed.

            The next morning Karissa and Ashleigh got up and got ready to go to Hopes Diner. They ran out the door yelling to their parent “bye mom and dad see you later” and before Nikki and Eddie could respond to them the girls were out the door and, in the car, leaving. The girls arrived at the diner. And sat down with Hope and Emma to start finishing their brainstorming for open mic night on Friday night. The girls decided to do the open mic night in a theme the late 90’s. All the songs on their list is from the late 90’s and everyone who attends has to dress up in clothes from the late 90’s. It should be fun.

            It is finally Friday the girls are all dressed open mic starts in an hour they have put flyers up everywhere. They are hoping for a great turn out. The girls are setting up the finishing touches and putting out the signup sheet for the open mic. People are coming in already the girls are getting excited. Hope’s mom said if the open mic night has a good turnout.  She will have an open mic night every other Friday.

Open mic night has started.

Hope “OMG, this is one hell of a turn out the diner is packed.”

Karissa “I am glad that it turned out so well”

Hope “thank you guys so much”

Ashleigh, Karissa and, Emma “awwwww you’re welcome Hope”

The night was a success and the girls headed home. Ashleigh and Karissa went to their rooms to get ready for bed. They went down to the kitchen to get something to drink when they heard a noise outside. Ashleigh opened the back door to see what was out there.

Ashleigh “I don’t see nothing”

Karissa “okay then get in and close the door”

She closed the door and forgot to lock it and both girls went to sleep. A tall man with jet black hair and hazel eyes dressed in all black snuck in the house threw the kitchen door that Ashleigh accidently left unlocked. He went upstairs and opened Ashleigh’s bedroom door. He grabbed her putting his hand over her mouth and disappeared with her in a cloud of black smoke. The next morning Karissa went to knock on Ashleigh’s, but her door was left wide opened. Karissa walked in and noticed Ashleigh’s phone is still laying on her night table. Ashleigh does not leave any room without her phone. Not even to use the bathroom.

Karissa ran downstairs and asked her parents “hey have you guys seen Ashleigh she isn’t in her room or the bathroom?”

Eddie and Nikki “No, maybe she is in the attic”

Karissa ran upstairs to check in the attic for Ashleigh. She is not in the attic. Karissa runs down the steps as fast as she can.

Karissa yelling “Daddy, Ashleigh is missing do something find her”

Eddie “calm down sweetheart we will find her”

Eddie calls the station to get a team to his house to search for Ashleigh he walks upstairs to Ashleigh’s room he notices muddy boot prints on Ashleigh’s white carpet. That was confirmation that Ashleigh was abducted. He goes downstairs to meet with his team. They started investigating in Ashleigh's room. Karissa was sitting in the attic waiting to find out where her sister was while holding her childhood stuffed bear that she used to carry everywhere they both have one Ashleigh's is pink and Karissa's is purple. Suddenly Karissa could here Ashleigh. Karissa stood up and said, “Ashleigh, where are you?”

Ashleigh “it’s cold and it’s dark”

Karissa “can you see anything”

Ashleigh “…”

Karissa “Ashleigh”

Ashleigh could not hear Karissa. So, Karissa ran downstairs to her mother and pulled her into the kitchen.

Karissa “mom I could hear Ashleigh, but she wasn’t answering me”

Nikki “what was you doing when you heard her?”

Karissa “I was sitting in the attic holding her bear”

Nikki “was you thinking about her?”

Karissa “yes, I was. Why?”

Nikki “twinlepathy, it’s a common magical gift between twins in our coven”

Go back up into the attic and do exactly what you were doing before only this time try communicating through your mind instead of your mouth”

Karissa “okay, I’ll try”

Karissa goes back into the attic and sits on Ashleigh's spot and holds Ashleigh's bear. Suddenly Karissa could hear Ashleigh again.

Twinlepathy-

Ashleigh “I want to go home”

Karissa “Ashleigh can you hear me?”

Ashleigh “Karissa was you taken too?”

Karissa “no I am at home do you know where you are?”

Ashleigh “if you are at home how come I can hear you?”

Karissa “mom says we have a gift called twinlepathy. It is a common magical gift for twins in our coven. Ashleigh focus. Where are you?”

Ashleigh “I don’t know it’s dark and cold”

Karissa “do you know who took you?”

Ashleigh “I don’t know but he is magical he changed his form right in front of me”

Karissa “can you use your fire to see?”

Ashleigh “no because I don’t know what me is around. I don’t want to die in a fire”

Karissa “okay, I’ll be right back. I am going to go talk to great grandma LuCretia”

Ashleigh “alright”

Karissa sneak’s downstairs and pass her parents into the basement the door appears.

So, Karissa runs through yelling “grandmother help Ashleigh has been taken”

LuCretia “Karissa do know who has taken her?”

Karissa “no”

LuCretia “alright get the book there is a location spell in the book”

Karissa “a location spell”

LuCretia “yes, it will allow you to use your blood and a map to locate your twin’s location. Only twins can use this spell”

Karissa “I found it THE LOST TWIN SPELL?”

LuCretia “yes, that’s the one. Grab a map put 3 drops of your blood on the map and say the spell”

Karissa grabbed a map and a safety pin from the basement and went back into the library. She laid the map flat on the table pricked her finger and dropped 3 drops of blood in the middle of the map. And she read the spell out loud.

Karissa “my twin is lost and hidden from me find the path and let me see”

Karissa stared at the map as the blood slowly moved to the old train station.

Karissa “she is at the old train station it is closed the trains don’t use those tracks anymore”

LuCretia “which means no one would find them there. Did your sister contact you through yours and hers twinlepathy?”

Karissa “yes”

LuCretia “did she tell you anything about the person who took her”

Karissa “yes she did she told me he can change his form I ignored her about it I figured she was talking out her ass”

LuCretia “she was not he is a shape shifting warlock”

Karissa “great, how do I deal with something that can change into anything?”

LuCretia “there is a spell you and Ashleigh both must say in the book of shadows. Look for shape shifter and write the spell down and take it with you. Have you learned how to smoke yourself yet?”

Karissa “yes, it is part of basic training now in the Coventry”

LuCretia “Ok good then you can smoke yourself there. Then you and Ashleigh can vanquish the shapeshifter and smoke back home”

Karissa “alright”

Karissa writes the spell down for her and Ashleigh. Then she smokes herself to the old train station. She can her Ashleigh screaming. She contacts Ashleigh through their twinlepathy.

Karissa tells Ashleigh I need you to keep screaming so I can find you”

Ashleigh “okay, and started screaming out loud”

Karissa can hear Ashleigh. She fallows the sound of Ashleigh's screams. She finds her. As Karissa is about to walk over to the place where Ashleigh is hidden a man appears.

So, Karissa twinlepathied Ashleigh telling her “remember this chant and on my count, we will say the incantation out loud to vanquish the shape shifter.”

Ashleigh “okay what is the incantation?”

Karissa “I vanquish thee I vanquish thee I vanquish thee shapeshifter”

Ashleigh “ok that is easy to remember”

The man opened the door and Karissa could see Ashleigh and Ashleigh could see Karissa.

Karissa “go”

Ashleigh and Karissa “I vanquish thee I vanquish thee I vanquish thee shape shifter, I vanquish thee I vanquish thee I vanquish thee shape shifter, I vanquish thee I vanquish thee I vanquish thee shape shifter”

The man blew up and turned to dust. Karissa grabbed Ashleigh and led her to somewhere that she could call their dad. She cannot just take her home it would look suspicious. Karissa smoked herself into the attic where she was supposed to be and noticed she was filthy. So, she ran down to the bathroom to get herself cleaned up. As she came out of the bathroom, she heard the phone ring. Karissa ran downstairs to see what was going on.

Karissa “dad what is going on?”

Eddie “that was Ashleigh she is ok she escaped her kidnapper and got away she is at the convenient store near the old train station. I am headed there now to go get her”

Eddie returns with Ashleigh. Nikki hugs Ashleigh and so does Karissa. And Ashleigh walks upstairs to get cleaned up. When she finishes, she comes back down to make something to eat. But Karissa already made her something to eat. Her favorite ham and cheese sandwich with chips and pickles on the side. Ashleigh sits down and eats her food. When she is finished the girls go up to the attic.

Karissa “did you find out what he wanted?”

Ashleigh “yes, he was looking for the golden twins”

Karissa “I guess he didn’t realize we are twins since we don’t look identical”

Ashleigh “yea if he would have known I would have been dead plus the amulet’s must really work I am always wearing mine, but it is invisible.”

Karissa “why didn’t I think of that”

Ashleigh “you are the reason I had the idea”

Karissa “so what do you want to do now?”

Ashleigh “I just want to go to sleep”

Karissa “ok me too”

They both laid down in the attic and fell asleep.
