Chapter Nine - Winter Formal Dance

            Winter is in the air. Literally it is snowing outside the twins love winter. The twins and their best friends are at Hope’s Diner discussing decorations for the winter formal dance at school on December 23rd.

Ashleigh “I love wintertime”

Karissa “is there anything you don’t love?”

Ashleigh “not really but I hate mushrooms”

Karissa “I was being sarcastic”

Ashleigh “oh”

Emma “so are we going to discuss the winter formal”

Hope “ya it is in three days”

Karissa “yes, well this year I think we should do a winter wonderland but no glitter. The glitter scene has been played out over the years we should use silver to make it sparkle”

Ashleigh “but, I love the glitter”

Hope and Emma “we do too”

Karissa “okay then what do you think we should do Ashleigh?”

Ashleigh “awesome, alright girls, I think we should have glittery white snowflakes hanging from the ceiling. Silver table covers, one giant snowflake with light blue twinkle lights hanging in the middle of the dance floor. Royal blue and silver drapes around the stage also royal blue and silver curtains with a beautiful and enchanting winter seen back drop for the naming of snow king and queen. So, what do you girls think?”

Emma “oh my god, I totally love it”

Hope “yes, sounds completely wintery and enchanting”

Karissa “actually sounds perfect”

Ashleigh “great, we all agree. Now music?”

Emma “I get a playlist together”

Karissa “snacks and drinks I will make a list and go grocery shopping”

Ashleigh “fantastic”

Hope “I get the decoration’s”

Ashleigh “I will get the backdrop finished”

Karissa “alright we will all meet at the school in a few hours”

Ashleigh “perfect”

Emma “alright”

Hope “sure”

            Karissa and hope headed to the stores to go shopping for the decorations and the food. Ashleigh and Emma went to the twin’s house to work on the backdrop and the playlist.

            While the girls are making are working on the winter formal Zane is at the school setting up a huge surprise for Ashleigh. When his mother shows up to take him to become the new leader of the demon clan The Scorpion Demons.

Piper Levings “Hello Son”

Zane turns around and says “Mom?”

Piper “yes Zane, I am your mother and it is time for you to come with me and take over the clan as you are meant to do”

Zane “no, I am not the next leader for my demonic blood is gone”

Piper “what? That little witch. I will fix you my son if it is the last thing, I do my first born will sit on the throne of the scorpion demons if it is the last thing I do”

            Piper grabs Zane and they disappear. In the blink of an eye Zane and piper are underground in the scorpion clan court. Demons are still in a monarchy. Each clan has a king or queen. Scorpion Demons clan has a queen Piper Levings and two princes Zane Roberts Piper’s first born and her youngest Kane Levings.

Piper “welcome home Zane”

Zane “where the f**k am I?”

Piper “scorpion court our home your brother is around here somewhere”

Zane “wait, what? I have a brother?”

Piper “yes his name is Kane. He is younger than you”

Kane “Mother, your back”

Piper “yes, anything happens while I was away son?”

Kane “no, who is this?” as he points at Zane.

Piper “this is your older brother and the next king of the scorpions”

Kane “I thought I was next in line for the throne?”

Piper “foolish child you know damn well it is the first born to take the throne”

Kane “yes, I do know that. I am fathers first born and he was king”

Piper “he is dead, and I am the queen so my first born will be the next king and Zane is my first born”

Kane “how is he your first born he isn’t demonic”

Piper “he is my son a little witch stripped him of his demonic blood”

Kane “I have never heard of a witch being capable of stripping demonic blood from a demon”

Piper “he wasn’t full demon he is a third demon and there is only one witch blood line I know of that can strip demonic blood”

Kane “who?”

Piper “whetstone witches”

Kane “well if he isn’t demon at all now why can’t I be next on the throne I am full blooded demon and I know everything about our clan?”

Piper yells in an earth rattling voice “YOU WILL NOT BE THE NEXT KING”

Kane “whatever”

Kane walks out of the room passing Zane slamming his shoulder into Zane’s shoulder so hard he knocks Zane onto the floor and keeps on walking. Piper yells for the guards to come and take Zane to his room and keep him confined to his room until she can figure out how to get his demonic blood restored. The guards drag Zane to his room and locks him inside with two guards posted outside the door. No one is to enter or leave Zane’s room. Back in the throne room Piper is pacing back and forth thinking of what she can do to cure her son of his lack of demonic blood. After several minutes of thinking she decides to yell for her royal messenger Sabastian.

Piper “Sabastian, I need you to go get Kiara”

Sabastian “are you sure your majesty?”

Piper “do I look like I am unsure”

Sabastian “no, your majesty, My apologies your majesty. I will go get her right away”

Piper “good now hurry up I have an urgent matter for her to assist me with”

Sabastian goes to get Kiara from her room.

Sabastian “Kiara, the queen requests your presence in the throne room immediately”

Kiara “what on earth for?”

Sabastian “I am not quite sure let’s go”

Kiara “ugh, fine”

Sabastian and Kiara go into the throne room where piper is.

Piper “Kiara I require your help with something. Thank you, Sabastian you may leave us now,”

Sabastian “thank you my queen”

Piper “Kiara I need you to restore my sons demonic blood a witch removed his demonic blood”

Kiara “impossible, there is only one witch who can remove demonic blood and she died centuries ago”

Piper “oh it is possible because it’s not the witch herself it is her bloodline”

Kiara “I thought her blood line ended with her son”

Piper “clearly not come with me”

Piper and Kiara go into Zane’s room.

Piper “this is my son Zane he is my eldest child n he was born a third demon. Now he isn’t demon anymore. FIX IT”

Kiara “I will try your majesty. But I cannot guarantee I can fix it”

Piper “you will fix him because your life depends upon it. He is the heir to the scorpion throne. So, fix him now”

Kiara “yes your majesty”

Piper “now we have an understanding. You and my son are confined to this room until he is fixed his ceremony is in 2 nights he needs to be fixed by then. You will both be under guard”

Kiara “yes your majesty”

Zane “mother, I need to go home dad is going to be worried about me”

Piper “no, he won’t I left him a note saying you are with me”

Zane “mother, please I don’t want to be next on the throne let my brother be the next on the throne at least he wants to be on the throne”

Piper “no you will be king, and you will shut the f**k up about it”

Piper leaves the room and slams the door. Kiara starts examining Zane and running tests to see if she can repair Zane’s blood back to its demonic properties. After hours of research and tests Kiara finally found the smallest amount of demonic blood in Zane’s blood. Now Kiara can use the blood in a potion to make Zane’s demon side come back and at his demon side will take over his wizard and human sides. Kiara screams for the guards to strap Zane to the chair. The guards strap Zane to the chair and stand aside while Kiara finishes the potion and prepares to force feed it to Zane.

Kiara “this will go a lot easier if you don’t fight it kid”

Zane “please don’t do this. I will give you anything”

Kiara “sorry kid you can’t”

Zane “then when I become king I will kill you”

Kiara “we will see kid we will see”

Kiara forces Zane’s mouth opened and dumps the potion in his mouth then holds his nose and mouth shut to make him swallow the potion. Once Zane swallowed the potion Kiara started chanting “daemonium sanguine ortum”

After Kiara finished chanting Zane’s body started flinging around in the chair. Suddenly Zane stopped moving. Moments later Zane’s entire body was on fire. Kiara started screaming because her wind powers couldn’t put out the fire. She was so afraid she had killed the queens son.

Piper runs into Zane’s room yelling at Kiara “what the f**k is going on?”

Kiara “I am so sorry your majesty, I do not know what happened”

Piper turns around and sees Zane on fire. She started smiling saying “yes I knew it yes.”

Kiara all confused said “what’s going on?”

Piper “Zane is being reborn into his demonic form”

Kiara “I did it? Sweet”

Piper “we need to move him to the throne room now”

The guards prepare to move Zane to the throne room where piper and Kiara are waiting.

Piper “this is fantastic my son is the first phoenix scorpion born in centuries”

Kiara “I’m sorry did you just say a phoenix scorpion?”

Piper “yes, I knew he was the perfect one for the throne”

Kiara scared half out of her mind says “great, it was an honor to help you your majesty”

The guards bring in Zane while he is still on fire but slowly the fire is going out. Meaning that Zane’s transformation is almost complete.

            Meanwhile back at the high school the girl’s and the guys are setting up for the winter formal Luke, Keith and Dean are hanging the backdrop on the stage. Karissa, Ashleigh, Emma and, hope are blowing up balloons to make the balloon arch for pictures.

Ashleigh “has anyone heard or seen Zane?”

Karissa “I seen him earlier before we went to the diner he said he would be here after he was finished some big surprise for you”

Ashleigh “he is planning a surprise for me”

Karissa “ya”

Ashleigh “so why isn’t he answering his phone? I’m gonna call him again”

Hope walks into the gym holding Zane’s phone and says “um Ashleigh I think I just found Zane’s phone”

Ashleigh “oh my god, we have to find him. Something bad has happened to him”

Karissa “alright don’t panic ash we will find him”

Emma “let’s go to your house and get LuCretia’s help”

Ashleigh “let’s go now”

All the girls leave to go to the twins house leaving the guys there to finish setting up.

The girls arrived at the twins house and run upstairs to the attic.

Ashleigh “grandma are you here?”

LuCretia “yes, sweetie I am right here. What’s wrong?”

Ashleigh “Zane’s missing”

LuCretia “alright child, scry for him”

Karissa “ya, you did great in our scrying lessons Ash”

Ashleigh grabs all the maps in the library and her scrying crystal and starts scrying for Zane using his phone. After 20 minutes of scrying nothing.

Ashleigh “grandma why isn’t it working”

LuCretia “only two reasons scrying won’t work”

Karissa “why?”

LuCretia “reason one – if Zane is underground and reason two – Zane is dead”

Ashleigh “NO, I know he isn’t dead. If he were dead I would feel it in my heart. He must be underground. How do we get there?”

LuCretia “no, you are not ready to go underground child”

Ashleigh “I don’t care what you think I am going to get Zane and bring him back”

LuCretia “Ashleigh I understand how you are feeling, but, you have to understand it is too dangerous down there and witches go dark in the dark world”

Ashleigh “I don’t care grandma. I love him and I can’t live without him”

LuCretia “you have to have a guide and a healer with you”

Ashleigh “alright where do I get those at?”

LuCretia “the dog that was following you is your familiar/healer find him/her”

Karissa “it’s a her and I know where to look”

LuCretia “go find her and come back to me girls”

Ashleigh “thank you grandma we will be back”

Hopes phone rings.

Hope “it’s Dean”

Karissa “answer it”

Hope answers her phone and says, “hi babe, what’s up?”

Dean on the phone “hey where did you all run off too are, we finished setting up for the dance?”

Hope “no, not finished cane you and the guys finish up for us please the set-up plans are on the food table we had an emergency come up I will explain later alright?”

Dean “alright babe, we got this as long as you and the girls are alright?”

Hope “we are fine just a small emergency; I love you see you later”

Hope hangs up.

Ashleigh “alright lets go”

The girl’s hold hands and Karissa smokes all of them to the woods near Luke’s dads house.

Karissa “I seen her run in there”

Ashleigh “alright Karissa you go get her she has only seen you so maybe she will only help you”

Karissa “alright”

Karissa walks into the woods. After looking for a long period of time Karissa was about to give up looking when suddenly a woman appeared right in front of her.

Karissa “who are you?”

Woman “I am your familiar, Cora”

Karissa “are you only my familiar or mine and my sister’s familiar?”

Cora “normally familiars aren’t charged with more than one witch. But in special cases a familiar has two witch charges when they are twins or when more than one witches destiny is intwined”

Karissa “okay so you are mine and Ashleigh’s familiar then?”

Cora “yes as well as Hope’s and Emma’s”

Karissa “Hope and Emma are part of our destiny?”

Cora “absolutely, you will never succeed without them”

Karissa “we can get back to our destiny later, we need your help to get to the dark world to save Ashleigh’s boyfriend Zane”

Cora “the dark world? No, I will not take you girl’s to the dark world it is way too dangerous. You girls could be killed”

Karissa ‘my grandmother said you would take us”

Cora “your grandmother must be mistaken; my job is to protect you girls not to take you into danger”

Karissa “if you don’t go with us we will just go without you end of story the man my sister loves is down there and possibly in danger we have to rescue him”

Cora “fine I will take you. But you have to do exactly what I say”

Karissa “alright”

Karissa and Cora go and meet up with the other’s and head to Coventry.

Ashleigh “why are we here at Coventry?”

Cora “the door to the dark world is here”

Ashleigh “where?”

 Cora walks over to a large portrait of Lady Olivia. Lady Olivia was the first and last leader of Coventry to go dark. Cora pulls one side of the portrait and it opens a door that leads down a long dark stone hallway.

Cora “this is the door to the dark world”

Ashleigh “alright, let’s go”

Cora “wait a minute”

Ashleigh “we don’t have time to wait Zane is in trouble as soon as you opened the portrait or door whatever it is called I felt him, and he is in so much pain”

Cora “alright let’s go then stay close and everyone should be fine”

The girls and Cora passed through the passageway. As each one walked through the passageway their appearance was changed. They are all now wearing black clothes and look gothic.

Emma “um why do we look like the girl from the craft?”

Cora “the passageway was spelled so that any witch who passes through it would blend in with the demons”

Hope “I kind of like this look”

Ashleigh “everyone focus, Zane is this way let’s go”

The girls follow Ashleigh down the hallway to these large double doors with two guards standing outside.

Ashleigh “he is in there, how the hell are we going to get in there?”

Cora “more importantly what else is in there?”

Karissa “I can look into the room with astral projection”

Cora “go”

Karissa astral projects and walks through the wall to see what is on the other side of the wall. She see’s two woman standing there in front of an exceptionally large egg that is starting to hatch. But, she doesn’t see Zane anywhere. Karissa returns to her body to tell the others what she sees.

Karissa “Zane's not in there, it’s only two woman standing in front of a large if I had to guess dragon egg that is starting to hatch”

Cora “was it on fire?”

Karissa “yes the fire had just burned out right after I went in there”

Cora “what is Zane?”

Ashleigh “he was part wizard part human and part demon. But we removed his demonic blood”

Cora “yea, and I am guessing he is scorpion demon correct?”

Ashleigh “yes, why?”

Cora “we have to go he is no longer Zane”

Ashleigh “I am not f*****g leaving here without him”

Cora “you are even if I have to send you home myself”

Ashleigh “what has you ready to run scared?”

Cora “Zane must be a scorpion phoenix”

Ashleigh “okay what does that mean?”

Cora “it means he is the darkest creature to ever live. The last scorpion phoenix couldn’t be killed he lays dormant in a cave guarded by our ancestors so no scorpion demon could ever hatch it again”

Ashleigh “well it looks like there is another born now I need to save him no matter what he is he loves me, and I love him”

Karissa “exactly if I can be with my witch hunter she can be with her phoenix. Now I have a way to deal with the guards I know a sleeping spell I learned from moms book”

Ashleigh “perfect do you think we can use that on the woman?”

Cora “only if their demons not if their witch/wizard”

Ashleigh “go Karissa”

Karissa “caput, nunc quies oculos tuos tamquam mortui”

The guards fall asleep. The girls run to the door. Ashleigh and Karissa hold hands and run into the throne room and blasts both Piper and Kiara with their golden power.

Karissa begins to put them asleep quickly “caput, nunc quies oculos tuos tamquam mortui”

Piper falls asleep. When Kiara doesn’t fall asleep they realize she is a witch.

Ashleigh “are you a dark witch?”

Kiara “yes, but I am a prisoner. If you set me free I will leave quietly”

Ashleigh “we will set you free if you help me save Zane”

Kiara “alright, Zane is in the egg”

All four girls hold hands together and they blast the egg with pure white energy. The egg cracks and shatters revealing Zane laying there naked in a fetal position. Ashleigh runs over to him and zaps clothes onto him.

Ashleigh “Zane it’s me are you okay?”

Zane “Ashleigh I’m fine how did you find me and what are you doing here?”

Ashleigh “I could feel you and I am here to take you home”

Zane “thank you I am so ready to get out of here and go home”

Ashleigh “good lets go before they wake up”

Cora “follow me”

Kiara “what about me?”

Ashleigh “wait I need to do something first”

Ashleigh conjures a necklace and places it around Kiara’s neck.

Kiara “what is this?”

Ashleigh “it is a necklace that prevents you from using your powers until we can figure out what to do with you. You are a dark witch and we can’t just let you go running around hurting anyone.”

Kiara “fine, thank you for saving me from the scorpion queen”

Cora “can we go now”

Karissa “let’s go ladies”

Everyone heads to the passageway and walks through and when Kiara passes through the passageway she transform back to a light witch. Cora closes the passageway and seals it from being used by demons or anyone at all. Karissa, Emma and, Hope head back to the school to check on the guys and see how the decorating is going. Cora leaves and goes back to her cottage in the woods. Ashleigh deals with Kiara while Zane sits down to catch his breath.

Kiara “I must have only turned dark temporarily while I was in the dark world. I had been there so long I forgot who I really was. My real name is Kiana Wilt.”

Ashleigh “so your not a dark witch?”

Kiana “no, I am not”

Ashleigh “how do I know for sure?”

Kiana “I can prove it, if I am a dark witch my magic won’t work while I where this necklace if I am a light witch my magic will work, and I can remove this necklace”

Kiana cast a spell to remove the necklace “remove monilis”

The necklace is removed proving Kiana is a light witch.

Ashleigh “good I will just take the necklace and you can be on your way”

Kiana “alright here you go bye and thank you”

Kiana leaves and Ashleigh walks over to Zane to check on him.

Ashleigh “Zane are you okay?”

Zane “I think so, I feel the same even though that Kiara witch put my demon blood back”

Ashleigh “Zane can my grandmother check you out please? Cora said something about you being a scorpion phoenix”

Zane “sure lets go”

Zane and Ashleigh head to Ashleigh's house.

Zane and Ashleigh go into the attic and talk to LuCretia.

Ashleigh “grandma can you check Zane he said a witch put his demonic blood back”

LuCretia “sure, come here Zane”

LuCretia did an examination of Zane.

LuCretia “Zane you’re a phoenix”

Zane “I am what does that mean?”

LuCretia “you are a rare bread and you can never die. Plus, other abilities as long as you stay on the light side of your powers you will do so much good”

Zane “cool”

Ashleigh “and Cora was worried you were going to be dangerous”

LuCretia “because phoenix rarely stay good my child, but as long as Zane has you on his side he will be fine. I have noticed you keep him good and Zane does not have demon blood only phoenix and wizard blood his human blood was removed once he went through the phoenix transformation”

Zane “I wonder how my dad will take this”

Ashleigh “do you want me to come with you?”

Zane “no I am fine I will see you tomorrow, wait what is today?”

Ashleigh “the dance is tomorrow night”

Zane “alright I will pick you up tomorrow night for the dance”

Ashleigh “alright I love you, see you tomorrow”

Zane “I love you too see you tomorrow”

            Back at the school the guys have successfully decorated the gym to perfection for the winter formal dance. Karissa Hope and Emma walked into the gym and they were surprised at all the beautiful work that the guys did. They really felt like they were in a winter wonderland dream.

Emma “they guys are over there sitting on the stage”

Hope “hey guys it looks amazing you guys did a fantastic job”

Keith “thanks”

Luke “it was a lot of hard work, but we made sure to fulfil our girls vision for tomorrow night”

Karissa “you fulfilled it my love, come on let me take everyone home”

Keith “it’s cool I drove here with the guys I take them home we have something we have to do before we go home.”

Karissa “okay I guess we will se you tomorrow and thank you all for finishing setting everything up we all really appreciate it”

The guys “no big deal we enjoyed doing it”

Everyone goes home to get some good night sleep tomorrow is a big day.

            The next day an hour before the dance. Everyone is at their homes getting ready for the dance. Ashleigh and Karissa are helping each other get ready everyone’s dates are showing up to pick the girls up. Keith is picking Hope up. Luke is picking Karissa up. Dean is picking Emma up. Zane is picking Ashleigh up. They are all sharing a limo together. All the girls seen the dance except Ashleigh.

Ashleigh “how did the guys do on the dance?”

Emma “they did an amazing job; I think you are going to love it”

Ashleigh “fantastic thank you guys for all your hard work in finishing the dance decorations for us and sorry for us running off we had an emergency”

Luke “not a problem we had fun doing it and seeing ya all’s facing when you walk in is so worth it”

Karissa “aw babe I love you”

Keith “yea seeing Hope’s face light up was worth all the work”

Dean “ya, Emma’s face made the work worth it. You are so gonna love it Ashleigh”

Hope “girls we got super lucky in the boyfriend department”

Emma “absolutely”

Everyone walked into the gym and they were all excited and Ashleigh and Zane were surprised. They danced and had a good time dancing.
