The SlipGate brought them to the pyramid steps. Trapped within the shimmering bubble, Desa had a hard time searching for threats. Everything melted together, puddles of colour blending at the edges. The Keepers Anna had left in the city insisted that it was safe to come down, but those old instincts were hard to ignore.
Desa’s heart was racing. This was the second time she had been called upon to save this world; you would think that she would be used to it by now, but her nerves were frayed. Her palms were sweaty. Her stomach did flip-flops, and her mind kept circling back to one inescapable truth: everyone was counting on her.
