Chapter Seven
Vicissitude
Ruby walks swiftly down a long white corridor. She has a serious expression on her face. She reaches glass doors where two heavily armed robots stand guard.
They stiffen to attention, raising their aims.
“State your name,” snaps a robotic voice.
“Stark, Ruby.”
The robot shoots out a laser sensor from one of its eyes, scanning Ruby’s eyes, checking her identity.
“Wait,” orders the guard; both robots fall silent.
Ruby shifts on her feet, then steps back, gasping in fright, as Lieutenant RainHorn’s voice speaks from the robot’s mouth as if he’s taken over its body. The robot leans forward into her face.
“What the blazes are you doing down here, girlie? You’re not authorized in this facility, Stark!”
The robots straighten to a menacing stance.
