Chapter 2: The Contract

215 Words
The next morning, I woke up with a pounding headache and a ring on my finger. Not just any ring. A diamond so big it could pay my rent for a year. My phone buzzed. Unknown number. "Be at Cole Tower. 9AM. Don't be late." It was him. Adrian Cole. I almost laughed. Who orders their wife around like an employee? Cole Tower was all glass and steel. 30 floors of billionaire ego. The receptionist didn't even ask my name. "Mr. Cole is waiting. 40th floor." His office was bigger than my whole apartment. And there he was. Adrian. In a black suit. No smile. "You're late. 3 minutes." "I wasn't aware my marriage came with a timecard." His eyes flicked to mine. Cold. Ruthless. But for half a second, something else. "Sit." He slid papers across his desk. "The contract." 365 days. One year of marriage. In public: perfect wife. In private: strangers. "And if I refuse?" I asked. "Then your mother's hospital bills don't get paid." My blood went cold. So this wasn't about love. Or even lust. This was business. I picked up the pen. My hand shook. "One year," I whispered. I signed. Married to my Ruthless CEO. And I had no idea the biggest lie wasn't his... it was mine.
