"We need to find them," Adrian said.
We were back in his office. 2AM. Files everywhere.
The text with the fake sonogram was still on my phone.
`If you tell anyone the baby isn't his, the world sees the truth.`
"Who would do this?" I whispered.
Adrian slammed his laptop shut. "Only one person benefits if we fall. Your father."
"No," I said. "He wouldn't hurt his own grandchild."
"Wouldn't he?" Adrian pulled up security footage.
The gala. 1 year ago.
The blonde. Talking to my father.
And then... to someone else. A woman in a black dress. Face hidden.
"Who is she?" I asked.
"His lawyer," Adrian said. "Elena Voss. She’s been cleaning up his messes for 10 years."
My phone buzzed. New text. From Elena: `Nice try. But the world deserves to know the Cole heir is a lie. Meet me alone. Midnight. Docks.`
Adrian grabbed the phone. "You're not going."
"I have to," I said. "If I don't, she releases everything."
"Then I’m coming with you."
Midnight. The docks were empty. Rain.
Elena stood there with an umbrella. And a folder.
"Hello, Mrs. Cole," she smiled. "Or should I say, Ms. Hart? The gold digger?"
Adrian stepped in front of me. "What do you want?"
"Simple," she said. "Sign over 51% of Cole Corp. Or I send the medical records to every news site."
I stepped forward. "You can't--"
"I can," she cut me off. "Unless..."
She looked at my stomach. "Unless the baby really is his."
She pulled out a second file. DNA test.
"Let's find out, shall we?"
