The kiss broke the internet.
`BILLIONAIRE CEO ADMITS MARRIAGE IN PUBLIC`
`WHO IS THE MYSTERY WOMAN?`
`COLE CORP STOCK SKYROCKETS`
Adrian didn't let go of my hand. Not at the press conference. Not in the car.
"We're going public," he told the reporters. "She is my wife."
Lies. Truth. I couldn't tell anymore.
Back at the penthouse, the doors closed.
Silence.
"Why?" I asked. "Why do that?"
"Because now my enemy can't touch you," he said. "And because I meant it."
My breath caught. "Meant what?"
"The kiss." He stepped closer. "The wife part."
He was so close I could smell him. Anger. Rain. Him.
"Adrian, your company--"
"Is fine," he cut me off. "I'd burn it down before I let your father hurt you again."
That was the moment I fell.
Really fell.
I reached up. Touched his jaw. "I'm scared."
"Of me?"
"Of losing this."
He answered by kissing me again. Slower this time. Like he had all the time in the world.
Like the contract never existed.
When we pulled apart, he rested his forehead on mine.
"365 days," he whispered. "But I want forever."
My phone buzzed. One last text from my father: `You made your choice. Now live with it.`
Adrian took the phone from me. Threw it across the room.
"From now on," he said, "you only answer to me. Wife."
The word sent shivers down my spine.
Chapter 1 was a contract.
Chapter 10 was a choice.
