Chapter 4: The Trap

240 Words
The next morning, my world flipped upside down. "Pack a bag. We're going to London." Adrian didn't look at me. He was already on the phone, tie loose, jaw tight. "Why?" I asked. "Because the person leaking secrets is on that flight." His eyes finally met mine. Cold. Accusing. "And you're coming with me to catch them." My blood ran cold. Did he know it was me? The private jet was silent. Just me, him, and 3 hours of tension. He sat across from me, laptop open, not saying a word. Until he closed it. "Tell me something," he said. "Why did you marry me?" I forced a laugh. "The contract said 1 million dollars." "That's a lie." He leaned forward. "I checked. Your mother's hospital debt was paid 2 weeks before our wedding. By someone else." My heart stopped. He knew. "So I'll ask again," he whispered. "Why did you marry me, Mrs. Cole?" I couldn't breathe. The truth was on the tip of my tongue. Revenge. For my father. For his company destroying ours. But then the plane hit turbulence. His hand shot out and grabbed mine. And for the first time, his touch wasn't cold. It was warm. Safe. "I..." I started. The cockpit door burst open. "Mr. Cole! We found them. The leaker is on board." Adrian didn't let go of my hand. His eyes never left mine. "Then let's go meet them," he said. "Together."
