Chapter 4
Layne shut the door to his and Heaven’s bedroom, and hurried down the hall, to the living room. He peeked at the back door of the cottage, double checking that the guards were still there, then he joined his mom as she walked outside, onto the front porch. Once he closed the door behind him, he caught up with her on the steps and touched her shoulder.
“Mom, are you sure Heaven and the baby are okay?”
No matter how thorough of an examination his mom gave Heaven, the fear of something happening to her and the baby wouldn’t disappear. He should have been on his game during the battle, then the Gyrokinetic would never have attacked Heaven.
At least he would never hurt anyone else.
