Chapter 13 New Year’s Eve. The countdown to midnight. The one day people around the world celebrated the birth of a new year they hoped would be full of success and good fortune. Heaven was no different. As Layne pressed his lips to hers, she enjoyed their warmth as she thought about the future ahead of them. Layne broke the kiss and leaned his forehead against hers. After a content sigh, he said, “Happy New Year, Heaven.” “Happy New Year, Layne. It’s just the first of many we’ll share.” “I look forward to it,” he smiled. As he caressed her face, she thought back to the previous year. It had been one crazy adventure riddled with obstacles, including one too many near-death experiences. To know she and Layne were still alive, and married at that, gave her a major sense of accomplishmen
